Keep Your Resolutions by Giving In

Dear Beautiful Souls,

In December, I invited you to explore your life purpose by considering your unique abilities, finding a place where your gifts are needed, and then taking action,
one step at a time. And in January, I wrote about surrendering your path, your goals, and your purpose to the Divine. When you combine these two ideas, you use your free will to do good in the
world while staying open, faithful, and accepting of what comes your way.

That sounds wonderful, doesn’t it? And indeed it is. But as you’ve been putting these ideas into practice, I imagine you have had moments of uncertainty or even
discouragement. Perhaps your commitment has wavered at times, when other priorities seem to demand your attention.  The path of purpose and surrender is not always smooth, but there is no journey that is more important than this one. Surrender is a universal law; we are called to
acknowledge our innate need to give ourselves over to the Divine. It is also the key to fulfilling your purpose in life. So allow me to offer some practical ways you can
learn to do it.

Set the intention. It is important to place your goals in the context of the three primary needs of the soul: to find and connect to the
Divine, to be in the world in ways that match its unique essence, and to express its beauty through your actions. For the sake of simplicity and clarity, I recommend focusing on three
to four goals you'd like to achieve this year – no more. Don’t be distracted by details. Seek the thing that rests at the core of your desire or dream, rather than getting fixated
on a mental picture and a specific plan that may not actually align with your true purpose.

Take guided action
. Allow your next steps to be guided both by knowledge (that is, by what you’ve learned from your previous experiences) and by knowing (which comes from intuition,
gut feelings, and insights you’ve arrived at through reflection). Once you get clarity on how to move ahead, begin planning your actions.

Surrender your heart and mind
. Now that you know what needs to be done, seek support. State a simple prayer: “Dear God, I have this beautiful desire in my heart to [state your
intention]. Here I leave it to you, as you are the sole operator of this universe. I await a sign from you that I should take the next action in the direction of my desire. I am willing
and ready. Thank you.” Where our individual powers end, the Divine is waiting for us. When we knock on the door of the Divine, the Divine responds with love and grace.

Trust and be patient
. Surrender includes the state of waiting, and it is here that trust comes into play. Once you’ve taken action, let it be, having faith that Divine guidance
will illuminate your next steps. There is a creative side of us that wants to initiate and push things forward. We must balance that aspect of ourselves with the side that is
willing be in patience, prayer, and anticipation of what the Divine brings into our life. It's a delicate balance, but possible nonetheless.

Continue to pray
. Prayer isn’t just about asking for what you want in the first place. It’s an ongoing practice of communication with the Divine. During periods of waiting, prayer
is essential to keep your vision and goals alive. You can use it to help bring yourself through a difficult situation. When things aren’t unfolding as you expect,
you can use prayer to investigate whether you need to clarify your intentions and align them with the needs of your soul. At any time, no matter what's happening,
you can use prayer to move yourself forward.

You can design your life to meet the soul’s need to find and connect to its Divine creator, to be in its unique states, and to express itself fully. When you acknowledge the needs of
the soul and engage in purposeful prayer, you are empowered to fulfill the intention of your creation. Paradoxically, surrender is the most powerful action we can
take. Whatever you wish to accomplish, the practice of surrendering to the Divine will move you forward with grace.

2017: A Year of Surrender

Dear Beautiful Souls,
January is traditionally a time of hope and renewal – an opportunity for a fresh start.
But for many of us, this year begins with great uncertainty and perhaps fear. We are at a crossroads, and we cannot see what lies ahead. We may feel powerless or lost. We may
feel called to action but hopeless about being able to make a difference. Whatever we are feeling, we find it difficult to know the best course of action. More than ever, we are
reminded that we are not in control.

The universe is chaotic and unpredictable by nature. When all is well, we experience this truth as a source of great mystery, surprise, and
delight. But when events take an unsettling turn, the fundamental unpredictability of the world can make us feel anxious or even despairing. What comes to our aid
is surrender to the Divine – the ultimate power who cares for and guides his creation.

In this moment, at the beginning of 2017, I invite you to learn and practice surrender.

Many of us first encounter the idea of surrender during times of need or crisis. But however useful it may be in times like the present,
surrender is far more than a remedy or coping mechanism. It is a way of life. In fact, given the limits of our power and
control, surrender is always our only real option.

Surrender is not easy, but it is much easier to surrender than to try to hold everything together by ourselves. Where our individual powers end,
the Divine is waiting for us. We arrive at the limits of what we can do on our own, and so we knock on the door of the Divine. When we do that, the Divine responds with love and
grace.

Surrendering cannot be done halfway; it requires our wholehearted commitment. What does it mean to surrender completely to the
Divine? It is a declaration of your heart that you give yourself—your life, your path, your destiny, and your soul—over to your Creator; you wholeheartedly say, “Guide me. Take
care of me. I am here to acknowledge the truth about you while I do good in the world.”

Surrendering does not mean you do not make choices. In and of itself, surrender is a choice we consciously make when we realize that we need Divine
guidance. Nor does it mean that you do nothing. Being a human with free will comes with the responsibility to do and be in this world that is guided by Divine power.
Surrender starts with acknowledgment of our humanness and the Divine presence in our lives, and it moves us toward the art of applying our willpower to create good in the
world.

Most importantly, surrendering does not mean giving up. When we have been so thoroughly steeped in a culture that convinces us of the power and value
of sheer effort, we may see surrender as failure. In fact, surrendering is an act of great courage. It takes a lot of wisdom and faith to let things
be. Surrender requires you to understand both your responsibility and the limits of your responsibility.

Imagine you are sailing a yacht on a perfectly sunny day. The smell of fresh sea air is intoxicating. Your heart knows the wind will carry you where you want to go,
as long as you steer in your intended direction. You move purposefully through the vast blue sea, knowing that all is well. That’s the power of surrendering to the Divine: you
navigate life with guidance and support.

Alignment with the Divine is the delicate combined state of surrender and prayer. In alignment, you move and act the same way the rest of God’s
creations do, secure in the knowledge that a higher power guides and takes care of you. At the same time, you are in a constant state of prayer, or personal communication with the
Divine. Prayer is your input into the sacred circle. You pray for the outcomes that you desire, and then you wholeheartedly surrender your actions and listen in. In this way, the Divine
shapes your life with wisdom and grace.

When you enter into this sacred circle with the Divine, you yield control and receive love and protection. You use your free will to do good in the world
while maintaining a state of openness, faith, and acceptance of what comes your way.

So, let 2017 be your year to cultivate an intimate connection to the Divine. Start by clarifying your intentions and goals. What do you wish for
yourself, for those you love, and for all beings? Choose a maximum of three to four goals as an area of focus. Then pray to the Divine for what you desire. Set weekly or monthly actions
to get you closer to your goals. Finally, surrender the outcomes and your wishes to the Divine power that operates the universe. Trust and be patient. There is no need for strain. It is
through surrender, not effort, that we become secure, achieve our dreams, and fulfill our highest purpose. Be assured that the Divine will give you what your soul desires in so many
ways.

Action item:
Take the time to journal about your intentions and goals. Then commit to a daily practice of prayer in which you express both your desires and your gratitude for
the guidance and protection of the Divine. What do you notice about the outcomes? How do you feel? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

How Can You Make a Difference?

Dear Beautiful Souls,

When we witness the chaotic, violent, and unpredictable events taking place around the world, it’s natural to feel unsettled and sad. Deeply
troubled by what we see, we may have a sense of obligation to act, a wish to be of service.

However, we may not know what to do or where to begin. We may feel overwhelmed by the magnitude of the problems in the world. With so
many different issues arising all over the planet, how can we possibly make any difference?

We may feel aimless, not knowing our purpose. With time, we may become pessimistic and hopeless. Unsure what action to take and doubtful that our
actions would make any difference, we may simply not take any action at all.

The Divine has placed you on earth for a reason. Each one of us has a vital role to play in restoring peace and harmony to the world. If you
allow hopelessness to paralyze you, you will deprive the world of the contribution only you could make. To fulfill the intention of your creation, you
must discover your unique role.

To get unstuck and get started, consider your particular abilities. Find a place where your gifts are needed. Then take action, one step at a
time. When talent meets service, you have found your life purpose. It’s that simple.

Identify your gifts and talents. Every soul comes with a figurative fingerprint, a blend of God-given talents that prepare us to
add to life in our own unique ways. We are most in touch with our unique and innate gifts in childhood. Think back to your own youth. What were some of your dreams? Was there anything that
you did particularly well? What were your early hobbies or favorite realms of imagination? These can be understood as early manifestations of your gifts, and they can be
geared toward a higher purpose.

Choose an area of focus. What area of need calls to you? Let go of thoughts about what you “should” care about, and instead ask
yourself what you feel genuinely passionate about. How does your soul wish to express its goodness in the world? For additional tools that can help you clarify your
meeting point between talent and service, see this blog post.

Take one small step at a time. Don’t allow yourself to become discouraged by the magnitude of the problems or the
amount of work to be done. It’s not necessary – or even possible – to save the world all at once. Just take one step at a time. The local,
everyday efforts of individual people are the building blocks of change. Every action ripples outward, so no choice is too small to make a difference.
It’s possible that you will never know the full impact you have had.

Instead of asking “How can I save the world,” ask “What are the unique things I have to offer? How can I be a force of good right here,
right now?” When you approach life this way, “saving the world” is no longer something you might manage to accomplish in the future if only you could figure out how.
It becomes something you do all the time, with every action you take, in every aspect of your life. Understand that you can change the world from within
your circle of influence, wherever you are and however you are called to help.

When the greatness of your soul's expression has found a channel and a stream to follow, it will do so easily and joyously. A purpose-driven life is the most
precious gift you can give to yourself and to the world. That's when you become part of the solution and help restore peace, harmony, and the magnificence of the human
race.

Action item:
Think back to your childhood and identify your unique gifts and talents. Then find ways to be of service, starting where you are.

Three Simple Tools to Create a Life of Joy

Dear Beautiful Souls,

Happiness often seems elusive, taking us by surprise in certain moments and remaining tantalizingly out of reach at other times. We seek pleasure and fulfillment,
although not always in the right places. The pursuit of happiness is, quite understandably, a universal human endeavor. After all, who wouldn’t want to experience more joy?

To find true joy, we must seek it skillfully and wisely. Genuine contentment and fulfillment arise not from fleeting experiences or
material possessions but by meeting the needs of the soul: to find and connect to Source, to discover our own ways of being, and to express the unique purpose of our
existence.

Finding and connecting to Source frees us from struggle and fear by teaching us to surrender that which is outside our control. Surrendering does not
mean giving up; it means becoming more and more discerning of what is within our control and what is not. True surrender empowers us to utilize the gift of free will to
create good in the world.

The soul seeks situations and environments in which it is being its fullest self. Ways of being, for the soul, include freedom, compassion, truth, beauty,
serenity, peace, and trust. Each soul comes with a unique signature blend of these states, which define its distinct essence. To thrive, you must identify and
cultivate your intended states. For example, if your soul desires to be in contemplation, then you know that time for yourself is necessary for your
well-being.

Finally, the soul longs to find ways of expressing its beauty. It is here that we manifest our talents, our abilities, and our most
hidden desires for ourselves and the world. When we nourish ourselves on every level – physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, and spiritually – we can achieve true well-being and meet
the soul’s needs.

But these are lifelong journeys, and you may feel unsure where to begin. How do we find and connect to Source? How do we discover our
intended ways of being in the world? How do we know the right ways for our soul to express its beauty and uniqueness?

Those questions need not be overwhelming. Here are three simple, practical tools you can use in your exploration.

1. Observe

Self-awareness is key. Take time to observe your thoughts. When you are faced with uncertainty or loss, what thoughts tend to arise? In difficult situations,
what feelings come up? What is your habitual state of mind? What stories do you tell yourself? It is equally important to notice your actions. How do you typically respond?

2. Connect

Learn to tune in to the voice of your soul, to the part of yourself that is most intimately connected to the Divine. By doing so, you gain access to an entire
universe of profound wisdom. Gather a pen and a notebook. Pose a question, such as “What is the nature of the Divine?” “What are my signature states of being?” or “How am I meant to
express my soul’s uniqueness?” Then listen for the quiet voice within, and begin to write. Allow your soul to freely answer on the pages of your journal. Don't hold back. You will discover a
wise and loving voice that speaks the truth.

3. Document

As you gain insights and glimpses of the truth, make notes so you don’t forget what you’ve learned. Reread earlier journal entries looking for
patterns that may yield further insights. What words and phrases come up repeatedly? What themes do you notice? See if you can find a picture that is
emerging and revealing the truth about the Divine, your soul, your life, and your desires.

When you take the time to understand and meet the needs of your soul, your life will change in ways both subtle and profound. By observing, connecting, and documenting, you can lovingly
nurture your own spiritual growth and live a life of true happiness, fulfillment, and joy.

Action item: Give yourself the gift of taking the time to meet
your soul’s needs. Make a commitment to spend at least thirty minutes each day observing, connecting, and documenting. What do you notice? How do you feel? Share your thoughts in
the comments below.

Why Should We Nurture Ourselves?

Dear Beautiful Souls,

When you embark on the journey of the soul and begin to live a life of surrender to the Divine, you will notice that your well-being dramatically
improves. You will also notice that your worries and stresses start to lift. Your soul will expand in the presence of the truth as you steer your life toward the Light. The Light will want to
direct you toward your soul’s states of being: love, joy, and happiness. To ensure that the soul has its needs met and stays expanded, you will want to regularly feed it all of the nourishments
it requires.

Is it self-indulgent to care for ourselves when there is so much misery and desperation in the world? Shouldn’t we be directing our attention toward others? Quite
simply, caring for others begins with caring for ourselves. To express your divine purpose by making your intended contributions to the world, you must nourish your soul.

Establishing these habits of self-nourishment will be a continual journey of discovery. You will want to include awareness of your soul’s needs every time you have
an insight or make a decision. Ask yourself, Does this support my well-being? Is it in alignment with what I know to be true of the Divine?

Remember that building a life of happiness and well-being happens brick by brick as you construct the castle of your dreams. So there is no need to judge your
current life or to be overwhelmed by the change that needs to take place. Everything happens at the right time, when you are ready. Stay attuned to your soul and its needs to learn
when it’s time for something new to enter your life or to be changed.

To maintain that space of awareness, it’s important to understand what it means to nurture yourself on a daily basis. To truly nourish your soul, you must meet
your soul’s needs on each of these levels.

Physical Nourishment. Your body is the vehicle that carries you. It is the space in which the spirit moves and flows freely as it ensures your
aliveness. Your soul can shine fully only through a clear body. Your body requires your attention and wants you to feed it authentic foods and beverages. It requires you to move in the sun and be
in nature to ground yourself. It seeks to be used in creating good in the world and adding to life.

Emotional Nourishment. When you nourish yourself emotionally, you are looking for experiences and environments that will provide you with the
ways of being that are unique to you. If you value curiosity, then you would engage in study and research. If it’s vital to you to be in the peaceful state that comes from
connecting with nature, then you would seek to spend time outdoors. Satisfying these needs can be easy and simple if you notice them and give them space to grow in your
life.

Mental Nourishment. Your mind will always seek to fulfill its spiritual purpose, which is to discover the truth about the Divine. By
feeding it information, cultivating positive thoughts, and challenging its habitual ways of being, you will turn your mind into an asset that will enhance the quality of your life.
Engaging in spiritual inquiry is the best utilization of your brainpower. Inquiry expands your consciousness, bringing you wisdom and understanding. You become able to detach yourself
from the little things and move your focus to consciously creating a life based on your purpose, dreams, and desires.

Social Nourishment. In this area, you are building authentic relationships based on love and kindness. Your soul’s ways of being
– such as compassion, love, trust, and generosity – help you build relationships that support you as you reach new heights. As you express these qualities, you will
attract situations and people who do the same, and they will in turn amplify these qualities in you. An aligned soul is by nature a compassionate soul that desires to act
with love and kindness.

Spiritual Nourishment. Here, you are fulfilling your soul’s need to connect to the truth of all there is. You are in a state of attunement,
prayer, and surrender as you feed the truth to your soul every waking moment. Finding and connecting to Source becomes a lifelong journey that you willingly and lovingly choose to take. Your
daily practices support your spiritual goals and allow you to continually orient yourself to the truth as you forge ahead in creating a life of goodness and joy.

Remember that these nourishments are not selfish; rather, they are the building blocks of a well-lived and balanced life. They give you the resilience
and strength to meet the needs of your soul, go after your dreams, and fulfill your purpose.

The more you bring authenticity to your life, the closer you come to finding the truth. You move from not knowing to believing. You move from wandering in the
dark to traveling a path of light. You bring in fluidity and joy as you cultivate an intimate relationship with your Creator. When you meet the needs of your soul, you can freely express the
intended purpose of your creation.

Action item: If something is not working out for you, that’s a sign that your soul is seeking
balance in order to meet its needs. How can you nourish yourself to restore balance? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

What Does It Mean To Live in Alignment with the Divine?

Dear Beautiful Souls,

Aligning to the Divine is the ultimate human pilgrimage. The soul sincerely wants to align to Source. This is the phase of the spiritual journey that
comes after the soul has first found and connected to Source and then come to know Source. Alignment is a subtle concept, and one that deserves our careful study.

True alignment to the Divine takes place not in some other realm, but here and now, in our everyday life. It happens at the times when we are busy, distracted, and
not focused. It happens at times of crisis. It happens when we are out with friends, discussing matters of life. We can connect with and align to Source in every action we take.

You may think of alignment in terms of a feeling of oneness and unity among all people. This is only half the equation. Think of your relationship with the Divine as
a figure eight or infinity symbol, with one side being you and the other side being the Divine. Nothing in this world—nothing—matters unless it takes us back to God.

Alignment is the delicate combined state of surrender and prayer. In alignment, you move and act the same way the rest of God’s creations do, secure in the
knowledge that a higher power guides and takes care of you. At the same time, you are in a constant state of prayer, or personal communication with the Divine.

Alignment means stepping into a sacred circle that only rotates with input from you and the Divine. In that circle, prayer is your input. At the same time, you are
allowing guidance and input from the Divine by wholeheartedly surrendering your actions and listening in. In this way, the Divine shapes your life with wisdom and grace.

Many of us think that prayer is asking for what we want, but it goes far beyond that. Prayer is the breathing in and out of the universal truths. Your
interaction with the Divine is not only about receiving but also about giving. Through your actions, you make your unique and precious contributions to the world as you express the purpose
of your creation.

It is through the God-given power of free will that we are able to make these contributions. At the same time, our free will presents us with great
challenges. It gives us the illusion of power and control, when in fact we are not in charge. While the rest of creation is already in alignment with this universal
truth, we humans continually struggle to grasp it. When we pray, it is a declaration that we have reached the limits of our sphere of influence.

Ultimately, prayer is an affirmation of the truth about the Divine and a calling of the Divine power to make change happen in your life. Prayer can take
three forms: asking, acting, or praising the Divine.

Asking in prayer. Prayer can be a call for divine intervention. Your life is
on the line, and you call out for help. Or you have a dream that you want to bring into reality. Or you simply want something to change. In this form of prayer, you
are asking for what you need in that moment.

Acting in Prayer. When we act in prayer, our prayers become our
actions. We realize that part of our mission is to make this planet flourish and thrive. We are drawn to serve and contribute by expressing the
soul’s unique gifts.

Praise in Prayer. In praise, you state the evident truth about the Divine.
You can do so by expressing gratitude for whatever you witness in your life and the lives of others. You may express praise of the Divine qualities you
discover through your observation of everyday life. In heartfelt praise, you assert the ultimate truths and strengthen your ties with the Divine.

Alignment fulfills the needs of your soul. Your soul gets to continuously connect to its Source by entering the sacred circle with the Divine,
dancing between surrender and prayer. In prayer, the soul gets to express its beauty and essence through acts of kindness. It gets to show the world its unique signature, and it brings
life to the lives of others. Finally, when the soul finds its own ways of being, it is reflecting the essential form given to it by the Divine. In alignment, your soul gets to connect,
express, and be in truth.

In the state of alignment, you fully realize that no one else has any power over you. People and situations are merely mirrors and guides on your journey.
There’s no power that resides outside of you except the power of the Divine self. You continually make the choice to settle for nothing but the truth.

Joy and expansion come to you. You realize that all is well; there’s nothing you need that is not given to you at any moment in time. You flow into
life, achieving dreams you once thought were not possible. You discover how to express your uniqueness, your brilliance, and your light.

Action item: Reflect on the three forms of prayer: asking, acting, and praising. What would you like
to ask of the Divine? How will you manifest your unique purpose through your actions? What gratitude or praise of the Divine do you wish to express? Share your thoughts in the comments
below.

Share your thoughts in the comments
below.

Channeling Your Passion into a Life Purpose

Dear Beautiful Souls,

In an earlier blog post, I discussed how true happiness and well-being arise when the three primary needs of the soul are fulfilled. In this post, I’ll focus on the soul’s need to find ways to
express itself and its beauty in the world. In the ordinary rhythms and routines of our daily lives, It’s easy to just keep doing what we do without really thinking about why we do it.
Summer is a perfect time to step back, take a breath, and contemplate the “why” – that is, the meaning and purpose that drive our actions.

The “why” will be different for each of us. Every soul comes with its own fingerprint, a unique blend of God-given gifts and talents. The soul naturally seeks
ways to express its uniqueness. Not every expression of the soul will reach the level of your full life purpose. Yet as you express your own particular talents and
abilities, you fall into your home vibration that allows you to fulfill the intention of your creation.

What does your soul long to express? It is during childhood that we are most in touch with our unique and innate gifts. Take a moment to reflect:

As a child, what did you most love to do? How did you choose to spend your free time?

What were your childhood dreams? What did you most want to become or accomplish?

What were your favorite realms of imagination?

With a little creativity, you can see how your childhood inclinations and dreams translate into adult pursuits. For example, if you loved to read as a child and
created your own handwritten and illustrated books, perhaps you are meant to write and publish a book as an adult.

Why does it matter that we know our purpose? We can find true health and happiness only when we meet the needs of the soul, including the need to know what it is
that we are meant to do with our lives. Once the soul’s needs are met, it can freely give its fruits, nurturing the world in return.

Knowing your purpose can change your life in a number of ways.

A sense of meaning brings us into balance. If we dismiss the spiritual dimension of our lives, we strip everything we witness of its
sacredness. We run in circles trying to fix, control, and manipulate our life and the lives of others. This is a fundamentally an imbalanced state. Understanding your true purpose enables you to
live a more meaningful and balanced life.

Our purpose reconnects us with the world and the people around us. When we dissociate from our true selves, we cannot live to our fullest
potential. Disconnection is the root cause of all suffering. Our inner disconnection not only affects our own physical health, it also ripples outward, potentially leading to pain and suffering
for those around us. We are by nature spiritual beings who long to connect with our world and the other people within it.

Purposeful living connects us with divine guidance. When you commit to purposeful living, you give your life and your path over to your
Creator; you wholeheartedly say, “Guide me. Take care of me. I am here to acknowledge the truth about you while I do good in the world.” In alignment with the Divine, you move and act the
same way the rest of God’s creations do, secure in your awareness of the higher power that guides you.

The journey to find and connect with Source naturally culminates in surrender to the Divine. The moment of surrender is a moment of deep openness of the soul. It is
an invitation to trust the Divine while you open your heart to the unknown. The soul sighs as it finally recognizes that Source is available to support it through its journey.

When talent meets service, your passion becomes your life purpose. You become stronger from the inside as you know who you really are and what you want to do in this world. When you discover your
true purpose, you bring authenticity to the world. You live with fluidity, joy, and an entirely new level of well-being.

Action item:
Reflect on your innate gifts. What did you love to do as a child? What is your life’s passion now? What are your next steps toward
living your true purpose? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Exploring Nature As a Gateway To Divine Truth

Dear Beautiful Souls,

Last month, I invited you to reclaim summer as a time to relax, nourish yourself, and explore what it means to create real happiness. In this post, I’ll show you how
to get started on that path. To find true well-being, we must begin by attending to the needs of the soul. The first and most important of these needs is to find and connect to
Source.

Discovering and coming to understand the Divine might sound daunting, but it needn’t be. In fact, a simple sense of childlike curiosity and wonder is the best way to
come to know the Divine. The truth is not difficult to find; we are simply invited to wake up to it. The Divine is a lively and definite truth that shines throughout the
universe.

Searching for the Divine awakens the spiritual purpose of the brain and mind. We are meant to resolve the greatest of human inquiries: to find the answers to our
most persistent and pressing questions about the meaning of life. The human heart is equipped with the intelligence to guide us to find the truth.

We do this by engaging in inquiry. Each question brings you deeper into yourself and closer to your purpose. Inquiry connects you to truth and ultimately to the
Divine. Nature is the river from which we drink Divine truth. It is there that we ask questions and receive our answers. These answers take the form of perceptions that we come to
believe in as a result of doing our homework about the meaning of life.

Inquiry is not an esoteric practice; it is something we do here and now. To get started, take several deep breaths. Become present and relaxed. Set the intention “May I come to know the
truth.” Bring to mind a clear, open-ended question about the nature of the Divine. What is it you’d like to know?

Then relax your consciousness and prepare to receive wisdom from the Divine. Your answers may arrive in the form of intuitions, dreams, experiences with
others, or other quiet messages. Your heart will resonate with these whispers of truth as you expand and integrate the knowledge your mind has gathered with the known truth
inside.

The natural world is alive and pulsating with divine consciousness and light, making the outdoors the perfect place to practice inquiry. Every element of
creation contains an imprint and a reflection of the truth. To practice spiritual inquiry in the outdoors, find a quiet place in a garden, park, or terrace and
contemplate one of these questions:

As a gentle summer rain falls, ask yourself, Why is it that the plants get what they need without asking
for it? Who cares for them? Who tirelessly supports me? And why?

As you gaze at the lush foliage of a blooming plant, ask yourself, What qualities of the Divine are reflected in a leaf? What qualities are
reflected in a flower?

As you watch a bird flying, you may wonder, Why are birds designed to fly when humans are not? What can I learn from the birds about the truth
of the Divine?

As you watch a fish making its way upstream, you may ask, What does this creature reveal about faith? How does that relate to meaning, purpose,
and surrender?

Inquiry becomes the gateway through which we ask questions while opening ourselves to the answers. We gain access not only to our own wisdom but also to the
universal consciousness that is present in the trees, birds, stars, planets, and entire universe. The mind thrives on building its innate muscle of wonder and fascination. We are captivated by
the desire to learn more. Our souls rejoice as we expand the learned truth into our entire being, dancing in resonance with the rest of creation. Inquiry offers us a gateway to a spiritually
aligned life.

I hope this post has whetted your appetite for spiritual exploration. In my next post, I’ll guide you in finding a greater sense of meaning by exploring ways to
express the unique imprint of your soul. For more inspiration on your journey, I invite you to read my book, The Art of Surrender, which offers step-by-step guidance on the spiritual path of
the soul.

Action item: Choose an aspect of the natural world and use inquiry to explore it, inviting it to reveal to
you the truth about the Divine. Share what you discover in the comments below.
