Inspiration for The Devil To Pay – Travel Wanderlust.
The Devil To Pay is set in central Italy, a place I’ve been lucky enough to visit several times in my life. I imagined a fictional Tuscan town near the coast, rather like the real fortified medieval town of San Giminiano, near Siena, but with houses that slope steeply down to the sea, like Positano or Ravello. I celebrated my 14th wedding anniversary last month, and was lucky enough to spend my honeymoon in this amazing 15th century Saracen watchtower on the Amalfi Coast, near Positano. It was originally built as a lookout tower to keep watch for Barbary pirates from North Africa. I’ve been planning a return visit (now with three children in tow!) ever since. Maybe this was where the first seeds of an idea for The Devil To Pay were born?
