This is Not a marijuana scale

So I order this small scale off Amazon, as I need to measure some rosemary. My husband asked me about it, and I said, “I need to measure out 10 grams of rosemary. He laughs and says, “I promise you, you are the only one measuring out rosemary with a scale like that. Everybody else is using is using it for marijuana.”

So, what am I doing. Well, I plan to make a rosemary extract, 10% (w/v). I heard it makes a pretty good natural preservative.  What do I plan to preserve? Oh, the answer to that is part of a nefarious plot for another psychological thriller. If you haven’t had a chance to read The Blow-up Man or Envy Rots the Bones, now as the weather turns cool, that’s the time to pick up a good book.

Envy Rots the Bones

Is evilness inheritable or just a by-product of a person’s bad environment? Emma Davis is a disturbed adolescent, determined to make her plan to kill Faye Davis a reality. The plan comes from a place without moral compass. But faith can prove a powerful weapon; one that Faye has on her side. I invite you to view the Envy Rots the Bones book trailer to see exactly what Faye is up against.

Twisted and brilliant, Envy Rots the Bones is the follow-up novel to Nina Blakeman’s The Blow-up Man. Faye Davis is the stepmother of teenage twins, whose mother she killed, and the wife of Todd Davis, a man who is much older than her. Both of them pharmaceutical scientists of Cullen State University, their marriage hadn’t been good. Emma, one of the twins, has a lot of resentment towards Faye. Todd, who had to abandon his research of a new drug because of its toxic effects, hasn’t been treating Faye like a loving husband should. Husband problems aside, Faye is about to get a hefty dose of pure hate, courtesy of Emma, a stepdaughter from hell or a place just like it.

I have not had the pleasure of meeting Annette Dolce in The Blow-up Man, but I did have the pleasure of meeting Emma, one of her twin daughters who gradually transforms from teenage girl with a crush on the most sought after boy in school to someone who can manipulate her peers into doing horrible things. Ella, meanwhile, plays the innocent twin, but her time to go bad does come around. Readers who’ve enjoyed the previous book will better enjoy all the interesting characters that this book has to offer. Blakeman truly made all of her characters come to life. I wonder if the author has her heart set on giving all stepparents out there several nightmares because they simply can’t read this book and expect to sleep peacefully afterwards.

No Rotten Tomatoes for Envy Rots the Bones

Thank you Divine Zape

Reviewed by Divine Zape for Readers’ Favorite

Envy Rots the Bones by Nina R Blakeman is a gritty tale that

explores murder, family issues, and a conflict that will have the

reader going through the pages nonstop. Dr. Faye Davis is an

intelligent, pharmaceutical scientist, deeply in love with Todd, a

man with whom she has enjoyed a powerful and passionate love

experience. But Faye has a darkness in her that is at the root of her

stress, a darkness that pushes her to murder the mother of Todd’s

illegitimate children, Annette. But Emma, the sixteen-year-old

daughter of the deceased knows the truth and will stop at nothing

to make Faye pay for what she did to her mother. Does she have

what it takes to put Faye completely out of their lives or will Faye

have to play dirtier to maintain her place in this family?

Beautifully written, Envy Rots the Bones is a hard-to-put-down story

with great twists, a compelling cast of characters and a masterfully

developed conflict between stepmother and stepdaughter. I loved

Emma, the sixteen-year-old girl and her anger and hatred for her

stepmother comes across powerfully. Faye is a well-developed

character, too. She is the epitome of modern illness, of greed, and

she represents a society that is psychologically breaking up. Nina R

Blakeman’s story powerfully demonstrates what happens when a

human heart is ruled by envy. This is an entertaining story and I

enjoyed the psychological depth of characters, the beautiful prose,

and the strong plotlines. Nina R Blakeman’s writing offers powerful

and insightful descriptions that allow readers to explore the

psychology of her characters.[image error]

The Sequel

Venomous vipers of the mind twist throughout the ventricular crevices of the innocent, and the not so innocent. They work down into the deepest recesses until those that are tormented…become the tormentors. Dr. Faye Davis’s mind is scientifically trained, but her hands are bloody, wringing with guilt. She’s killed her husband’s old flame, the mother of his illegitimate twin girls. One of them, Emma, suspects the step-mother, and her plan for revenge comes from a soulless place. Her mind is so devoured, no pure spirit can enter. With this sixteen-year-old adolescent, there is no wringing of hands. She patiently waits, sleeping the sleep of Saints. Faye and her husband’s love affair had been passionate, but the marriage hell. Faye’s daddy issues and fear of abandonment keep her tied to the turbulent Davis family. But a physical altercation with Emma leaves Faye fleeing the family home. Emma calls on demon spirits to rid her family from Faye. The adolescent will only accept a family on her terms. Faye is determined. She is willing to fight the devil himself to hold on to what is hers.

Dog Lovers

I know it might seem like I dropped off the edge of the earth, but I sort of did when AmaTechTel disconnected our Internet with no notice. My special thanks to Terri and Brandi at the Swisher Memorial Library, and Swisher Rural Health Clinic, making me feel welcome for the last five weeks as I finished teaching Advanced Pharmacology for the spring semester.

But on a lighter note, anyone that knows me knows how much I love dogs. Scot and I were lucky to go to Muttfest in Amarillo @ Memorial Park this last weekend to benefit the SPCA. . .have your pet spayed or neutered. We didn’t stay long enough for the owner/pet lookalike contest, but I’m sure my two incredible hombres would’ve won.

One more thing, those looking forward to the sequel to The Blow-up Man won’t have to wait long. Outskirtspress is working on the final edits, and I don’t think it will be more than two weeks. What is the title . . .? Envy Rots The Bones.

Holy Smoke!

Well, as we come under another Fire Weather Watch for 2 days and 3 hours, I wanted to thank everybody for voicing their concern for Scot and I last Tuesday, February 28, 2017 while the Tulia grass fire was occurring. We are okay and so is the property. As we live three miles east of town, the area most involved was to the south/southwest of town and spread east. As unofficial fire investigators, we set out this morning to see if we could tell approximately where it started and how it tracked through the town.  To the best of our knowledge, about 1 mile south from the turnoff of 86 west (heading towards Nazareth) on 3141, seemed to be where it originated. I have a picture below where the cows came to our truck, roadside, unable to tell the tale. A strong wind out of the west sent the fire eastward, sparing the truck stop, Rip Griffins and the Time Out Bar and Grill. The fire skipped across 1-27 to the Rose Hill Cemetery all the way to McKenzie Park where it butted up against the backyard of many homes. From what we could tell, there was some home/property damage, but for the most part, it could’ve been much worse. Pray for rain!![image error][image error]

Home Sweet Home No. 20

Those darn West Texas winds. This is a picture of the remnants of a grass fire only a mile up the road from my house that occurred earlier this week. Please pray for rain.
