Back to school blues

Well folks, it's that time of year again. The new college year starts and I'm forced to leave the sanctuary of my bedroom, turn off Netflix and actually pretend I'm a functioning human being. I know. The struggle is real.

This will be my final year of college, and to say I'm both terrified and excited is an understatement. So I'm going to sweep all of my concerns under the rug (clearly the healthy option) and concentrate on the world of fiction!

Last week I finished Me and Earl and a Dying Girl, and I have to say, it was so impressive. Truth be told, after The Fault in Our Stars, I wasn't sure I was prepared to read another heart breaking story that involved cancer. But this was nothing like I expected. There were so many times where I was actually laughing out loud, and the protagonist's self-deprecating humour was hilarious. Most importantly, it was a book that didn't try to shove a heartfelt message down your throat, but still managed to tug at your heartstrings. There were definitely times when I felt like the story could have been more defined, but I think it suited the narration. I'm excited to watch the movie now! Let's see if it lives up to the book (although they rarely do, let's face it).

The real struggle of going back to school will of course be assignments, which will definitely eat into my reading time. I guess I'll have to stock on my novels now! Next book to be read (after I finish my current one) is Fallen, by Lauren Kate. I've heard great things about this series, so I'm excited to start it!
