cutting edge design
Cutting edge design?
If so it’s a crime,
I get.
The need to streamline,
To make everything compact,
To reduce weight, that’s a fact
I understand that first class,
gets the whizz,
But The smaller the space,
the more,
the design should fizz,
So why,
in economy class
on planes,
Do you feel a maniac has had the reins?
Paying less,
unimportant guest?
Why are the buttons, for recline
on the inside of the arm,
Is that fine design?
Unless you are stick thin
they are hard to reach,
Turn on your light,
Become a contortionist ,
balance on one cheek,
The remote for the screen,
again on the inside is seen,
Fudge about, to pull it out,
Twist and strain without a doubt.
Where are the instructions ,
for how it all works?
Where? For us less techno savvy burkes?
Even in economy plus, you need to limbo
When leaving your seat,
ok if a nimbo
With little space why a coat hook
Something more useful
would be better in my book!
Cutting edge design?
If so it’s a crime!

Happy Christmas everyone.
Culture and us
We are all fish in the sea but from different seas
diverse habitats means different development
I am a construct of my culture
the values, practices, traditions, beliefs
shared within my community, shaped
my formative years within the structure.
You are a product of your culture
our constructs of self are built
by our enviroments and cultures
these things colour our window on the world
our self- recognition diverges because of our sculptor
diverse habitats, design communication and cognition
we are fish in the sea of life, unique but stamped by custom
If we met our communication styles could diverge
it would not stop us communicating but to be effective
we would need to be aware of different styles
especially in the non verbal cues we present
If I looked you in the eye would you percieve it
as a threat, a sign of disrespect, defiance or equality?
If I reached out to touch you what would be appropriate?
If I gestured the ok symbol would you think I was swearing,
saying ok, referring to money, indicating zero?
We are all fish in the sea emerging from different habitats
our natural communication style is developed from our culture
indirect, harmonious understated relying on hierarchies and relationships
using silence, non verbal communication and intricate politeness
or direct, heavy reliance on words and their meanings
relaxed hierarchies, fleeting relationships lower key politeness
We are all fish in the sea of life our habitats dictate our way of life
As we swim into the world’s oceans we experience new habitats
new ideas and beliefs we discover differing cultures and styles
we learn we adapt we add to our cultural repertoires
in this world of Posey we are immersed in words and tropes and imagary
we see and learn and share with no cultural divide
although we see cultural differences in poetic style and form
figurative language and metaphor
poetry transends cultural differences
it is the music and meaning of the words that is important.
We are all fish swimming in the sea of life and in the sea of Posey.

Love like the Movies
We have this image of love, how it is going to be, what will happen when we feel it. When it doesn’t play out as we expect we accept less or move on. Sometimes we make the wrong choices. identifying love is difficult and we are taught by books and movies not by role models in life.

Seasons
As we walk life’s tortuous paths
we encounter seasons
as life rolls past
Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter
pass with certitude
a familiar refrain
weather patterns change to
unexpected patterns
less snow more rain
making the season harder
to explain
As we walk life’s tortuous paths
our lives are like seasons
spring, summer full of love and hope
or autumn gales
when dreams are dashed
and life seems cold and bleak
when setbacks lash
shoulders hunch desolation becomes the norm
and the path is strewn with boulders
winter may seem to set in, to blight
it’s pervasive chill seems set to last
a whole eternity
But seasons turn
springs hope of new life
the abundance of summer
the colours of autumn
and winter too has a beauty
As we walk life’s tortuous paths
we encounter seasons
each has its own beauty
challenges and solutions
we can grow.
