New Trouble For Trump Stooge Mark Meadows
The British expression to be “in Dicky’s meadow” means to be in trouble. The New Yorker has reported that Mark Meadows allegedly knowingly registered to vote using a fake mobile home address in North Carolina. The former owner of the mobile home said Meadows’ wife rented the place for two months, but Mark Meadows never stayed there. The current owner said it was “Really weird” that Meadows would list the property as his place of residence.
So, why would Meadows register to vote using the address of a “dive trailer in the middle of nowhere” that he does not own or live in? Meadows considered running for the Republican seat vacated by Richard Burr, who voted to convict Trump on the impeachment charge of inciting an insurrection. Meadows did not run, but he did vote by mail in the November 2020 election using the bogus address. It’s a federal crime to knowingly falsify voter registration in a federal election. But it is up to the challenger to file a voter fraud complaint. Perhaps the neighbor – who, based on her statements, is a pro-Trump conspiracy theorist – could be a witness for the prosecution in TWO cases of voter fraud. The neighbor stated, “They legitimately voted in the legitimate election,” possibly implicating Mrs. Meadows too.
Meadows’ voter registration scandal originally came out in December 2021 around the time the Guardian reported on the unfair sentencing of a black woman in Tennessee, Pamela Moses, for “knowingly” making “a false entry on per permanent registration.” The good news is, after the Guardian revealed new evidence that the DA failed to provide crucial documents, on February 25, 2022, the same judge who ordered the harsh punishment ordered a retrial and Moses was released. The new evidence shows Moses did not “knowingly” submit an inaccurate certificate of voting rights restoration. Prosecutors can appeal, retry, or drop the charges.
Now, if a challenger of the candidate that Meadows voted for files a complaint, there is compelling evidence that he “knowingly” falsified his registration, and he’ll be in Dicky’s meadow.

Where This Goes From Here
Allow me to begin by saying how grateful I am for Palmer Report’s steady voice of reason, like a beacon on a turbulent sea. I’m also grateful for my fellow Resisters, who continually share important information from every corner of the planet, like points of light in the darkness, forming a constellation of hope and unity. We are also very effective. Never forget how much worse this could have been if we hadn’t won the 2018 midterms and the 2020 elections.
But we also must venture beyond our sheltered shores to get a glimpse into the heart of darkness, otherwise known as the Republican party. For example, it’s obvious to us that Covid Kim Reynolds is evil and corrupt, most recently proudly signing a hateful Republican bill in Iowa that will hurt transgender children. What is wrong with these people? They seem truly damaged. And yet, Kim Reynolds is one of the most popular governors in the Republican party.
Republicans continue their low-class, inept, self-sabotaging antics. Reynolds was selected to give the follow-up speech to Biden’s State of the Union and ended up gaslighting their base into believing their leaders care about them. During the SOTU, MTG and Boebert put on a shocking display trying to normalize hatred. In an attempt to aggrandize themselves, Senators Rubio and Daines tweeted out Ukraine president Zelensky’s Zoom screen shot potentially revealing his location to assassins. Devin Nunes left Congress to manage Trump’s disastrous social network. Gohmert left his safe seat as Texas Congressman to run for AG and lost.
Putin’s attack on democracy has had the unintended effect of uniting the world and strengthening alliances against autocracy. As we approach the midterms November 8, 2022, Democrats must loudly broadcast Republican foibles, while driving home our message of truth and unity, to the darkest corners of America. In his SOTU, Biden returned to his campaign message of unification and got an eight-point jump in his approval rating. Republicans tried to destroy our faith in democracy. Democrats are working with the world to restore it. We’re winning.

Cleaning Up After The Republicans. . . Again
Once again, Democrats are obliged to clean up another Republican mess. Putin’s current aggression in Ukraine is an attempt to restore control of Russia’s own back yard that it had during the Soviet Era. Some experts argue that Putin and many Russians hold 30 years of pent-up anger over the humiliation of West’s “triumphalism” after the 1990s fall of the Soviet Union under pressure from Republican paladin Ronald Reagan.
That is not to say that Russia and Putin have not always been feudal and prone to aggression. Russia expanded to a world power by refusing to compromise, invasion, and cheating. Putin, a former KGB officer, uses that underhanded playbook strategically to sow chaos and maintain control. Now, he is reasserting himself with the objective to destabilize NATO and Europe, not unlike he did by weaponizing the Syrian migrant crisis in 2016.
Putin has used an aggressive misinformation campaign to buttress his new incursion into Ukraine, falsely depicting Ukraine as “not even a country.” On the contrary, Ukraine is the largest country in Europe, and it PREDATES Russia. The former country called “Muscovy” was renamed Russia in the late 16th century when early tsars appropriated the “Rus” name from the people of Kyiv to enhance their ancestry.
Putin’s current goal is to reverse the treaties of 1990s, while NATO’s goal is to rebuild and strengthen those security arrangements. Following the 1994 Budapest Memorandum to respect Ukraine sovereignty in exchange for Ukraine giving up its nuclear weapons, the U.S. has a duty to defend Ukraine. Putin may be continuing the Russian tradition of refusing to compromise. But that doesn’t mean Biden has to.
Biden is playing Putin beautifully, using his own truth campaign, releasing Intel to gain public support against Russian aggression in Ukraine. For example, we now know that Russia has created lists of Ukrainian residents identified for “targeted killings, kidnappings/forced disappearances, unjust detentions, and the use of torture.” Biden has also responded with swift sanctions including cutting correspondent banking ties.
Biden continues to apply pressure to force Putin back to the negotiating table. We should be thankful that we have such an experienced and savvy POTUS during this truly scary time. It will be tricky, but we can count on Biden to do the right thing.

Now This Is More Like It
This encouraging update comes one year after my first of several pieces about gun reform in America. First a recap. In 2004, then Senator Biden, along with Senator Feinstein, fought against allowing the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban to lapse. However, under G.W. Bush, the ban ended, due to the 10-year sunset provision forced into the original law by the pro-gun lobby.
In 2005 Biden voted against the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), which prohibits civil liability action in any state or federal court against a manufacturer, seller, or trade association, of a firearm, a component of a firearm, or ammunition, for damages resulting from the unlawful misuse of a firearm. PLCAA passed after aggressive lobbying by the gun industry.
There has been only one successful lawsuit in U.S. history against a gun manufacturer, the $50 million judgment won by 7-year-old shooting victim, Brandon Maxfield (who became quadriplegic after the incident), and his tenacious attorney Richard Ruggieri, who proved an intentional gun defect in the cheap handgun known as the Saturday Night Special. In a 2004 speech, Senator Feinstein directly referenced Maxfield v Bryco.”
Now, after filing a wrongful-death lawsuit, the families of five children and four adults killed seven years ago in the Sandy Hook Elementary mass shooting reached a $73 million settlement with the now-bankrupt gun maker, Remington, and its four insurers. The families have also “obtained and can make public internal company documents that prove Remington’s wrongdoing.” Remington is the manufacturer of the Bushmaster AR-15-style rifle used in the Newtown, CT massacre killing 20 children and 6 adults. Sandy Hook plaintiff’s attorneys said the PLCAA protections of the gun industry are “not bulletproof,” and their new approach, arguing Remington’s glamorizing militaristic aspects of the rifle, was key.
With a slim Democratic majority in the Senate making Federal legislation difficult, Biden is also taking a new approach to reducing gun crime. It includes stopping the flow of guns and bolstering law enforcement and communinity-based programs. Gun reform in American requires innovation. The gun industry is now on notice.

You’re Darn Right Donald Trump Is Going To Be Indicted
The more evidence of ongoing investigations and impending indictments of Donald Trump by Federal and State Attorneys General, the more pundits on the Left insist that nothing is going to happen. This is as infuriating as the cognitive dissonance we see on the Right in their blind worship of TFG.
But the evidence is clear that Trump is being investigated for many crimes, including trying to illegally overturn our free and fair election. It has been reported that Trump was in direct violation of the Presidential Records Act, personally illegally destroying presidential records. He was also personally involved in trying to illegally seize voting machines after his loss in the 2020 election. Also, at a rally in Texas, Trump illegally called for his followers to stage another assault on the rule of law. These crimes were all just revealed in the last TWO DAYS and don’t even include the ongoing investigations of financial fraud in New York, or election interference in Georgia.
Two reasons have been posited for why Trump will never be indicted. The first: because it is unprecedented for a former U.S. President to be indicted. There’s nothing in the constitution nor in the law that prohibits such, so there is no reason for this precedent not to be broken. The second and rather compelling reason is that, for decades, Trump has been a Russian informant to the U.S. and therefore has been given a pass for his crimes by law enforcement in exchange for his Intelligence (an oxymoron if ever there was one). But, if anything, evidence points to Trump being an agent FOR Russia AGAINST the United States. We literally dodged a bullet by decisively electing Biden.
There is also the third reason given: that Trump is Teflon, and nothing sticks. That one is simply nonsense. No former American President has ever been indicted, but there’s a first time for everything.

One Brick At A Time
This Black History Month, the timing of Biden’s announcement of a U.S. Supreme Court nominee is auspicious. Among other things, Biden is tasked with restoring the image of the SCOTUS, which has been damaged by the right-wing justices installed under Trump and former GOP Senate leader.
To start, Biden apologized for his handling of questioning Anita Hill during Clarence Thomas’s Supreme Court confirmation hearings. Then he chose a respected district attorney, Kamala Harris, as VP, making her the highest-ranking African American female official in U.S. history. Now, Biden has vowed to keep his 2020 campaign promise and announce his nomination of the first African American woman to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Stephen G. Breyer. Biden’s nominee is expected be announced before the end of Black History Month 2022.
Speaking of Clarence Thomas, SCOTUS is currently at its lowest approval rating in history. Thomas’s wife, Ginni Thomas, a prominent right-wing activist who publicly cheered the January 6th insurrectionists, is not helping. Ginni Thomas is openly working to affect the outcomes of high-profile cases on abortion, affirmative action, and gun rights. A code of conduct requires lower court justices to recuse themselves from cases with personal connections. The U.S. Supreme Court has no such code of conduct. Justices are accountable only to themselves, so Clarence Thomas’s actions go unchecked.
The most recent SCOTUS appointments came after the unpredictable deaths of Scalia and RBG, and the dubious early retirement of Anthony Kennedy. All were replaced by right-wing justices under Trump. Restoring the good image of SCOTUS will only happen one opportunity at a time, starting with the first African American woman justice. Whoever Biden nominates, it will be a highly-qualified woman of color who will also have the backing of moderate senators. We must be ready for every new opportunity. That is why we MUST keep the House and Senate in the 2022 Midterms.

The Real Problem With Joe Rogan And Spotify
American Rock Hall of Fame legend Neil Young has had enough of COVID misinformation. This week Young challenged Spotify to choose between his music, or the podcast of the mendacious Joe Rogan. Spotify opted to keep The Joe Rogan Experience podcast (JRE), causing a public backlash. So many users unsubscribed, Spotify had to freeze cancellations because their system was overwhelmed. Also, Spotify stock is down 10-25%, depending on when you mark the price.
The fallout continues, with Spotify drawing unwanted attention to its refusal to create a policy banning misinformation. JRE, the most popular podcast in the world, has been condemned for having several anti-vax guests, including discredited doctor Robert Malone, who was banned from Twitter for promoting Covid-19 misinformation. Rogan and his guests use their notoriety and academic backgrounds to give the appearance of credibility to manipulate listeners into thinking they are being informed, when, in fact, they are being dangerously misinformed. Note that 90% of hospitalizations and deaths due to COVID are the unvaccinated.
This incident has also refocused attention on social media regulation. The Internet is protected under Section 230 of Title 47 of the U.S. Communications Decency Act, which gives social media platforms immunity from contributors’ content, “even when they encourage illegal action, deliberately keep up manifestly harmful content, or take a cut of users’ illegal activities,” according to legal experts Citron & Franks.
The extreme right has already highjacked cable television and radio allowing Fox News and other rightwing programmers to skirt FCC regulations. The rightwing extremists have now used Section 230 to highjack the Internet. But they may have gone too far and reform is on the table. According to The Atlantic, Fox News, JRE, and other rightwing influencers promoting dangerous anti-vaccine campaigns to “save the economy,” no longer can use that argument under the booming Biden economy.
Portals such as Wikipedia, who post unsubstantiated claims about public figures, in what normally would be considered “unfair representation” generally actionable in all other media formats, may no longer be considered an ‘interactive computer service’ protected under Section 230 against defamation, when published on an Internet platform. The 1st Amendment states that Congress can make no laws hindering freedom of speech. But Congress and the courts can use current laws to protect U.S. citizens.
