It’s been a while since I’ve uploaded Korean recipe comics here! I’ve made this comic to be part of a multicultural food comics anthology called Malulee’s Kitchen. Unfortunately, the publication has folded but they gave me the permission to publish it on my own so here it is! This is a popular party food in Korea and fun to make, similar to stuffed peppers. If you are not into spicy food, you can use sweet bell peppers instead of spicy Korean peppers. Enjoy!

My original artwork will be displayed at Woolly Mammoth Theater as a part of the art gallery for the play, ‘SHE THE PEOPLE’. I am so honored and excited to be part of this awesome play at one of my favorite theaters in DC.
An all-female, all-star team of The Second City’s most fearless, tuned-in sketch comics roasts the patriarchy and reclaims at least two hours of absolutely hilarious time. The producers of Black Side of the Moon and Nothing to Lose (But Our Chains) bring you a mimosa-and-madness-fueled foray into “having it all,” having each other’s backs, and having that sick feeling your government’s trying to turn back the clock to the Middle Ages. She the People… in order to perform a more perfect union!
My art that would be displayed are part of an on-going series of collages made with magazine tear sheets combined with poems. You can have a sneak peek on my Instagram. This project started by experimenting with slicing random tear sheets and combining them to create an unexpected ‘new’ image, which I used as a jumping off point to write down my stream of consciousness poem. I had worked as a fashion illustrator and a textile designer throughout my twenties and looking at fashion magazines was part of my daily life. Fashion ads are full of distorted and unrealistic images of what is currently considered as an ideal female beauty, and they shape the self-esteem of women all around the world. The fashion industry doesn’t care that women are actual human beings with individual history and thoughts and these ads are created to trap women into being insecure and unoriginal. It took me many years of struggle and self-discovery to distance myself from these images and become more comfortable with my own body image. With many discussions on body positivity and diversity in the current feminist movement, many women have been able to find their own ways to exist in this world in a happier and a more natural state. But I know that we are still not completely immune to this addiction to superficial beauty. It is apparent in the images that we voluntarily post on our social media. The discrepancy between the commercial and public femininity and what I personally experience as a female in the world is a fascinating subject that I am still in the process of exploring.
The play is on from Dec 3 till January 6th. Come visit Woolly mammoth to check out the play and the original art!
Woolly Mammoth Theater is located at 641 D ST. NW WASHINGTON DC 20004
