Carpet or Barcelona? A story about money decisions + a live retreat!
Hi Friend,
First, a little story and then an invitation to travel and join me for a very special 5-day Financial Therapy Retreat at the gorgeous Hollyhock Retreat Center (on Cortes Island) on May 16-21st!
Let’s start with the story…
If you’ve been around for a while you may remember my blog post from 3 years ago titled, “I’m using our carpet fund to take my family to Barcelona instead!“
It was the very end of 2021 and we, like everyone, had not been able to travel abroad since the pa...

How To Make A Good Money Decision (About A Course On Money)
Dear Money Adventurer,
If I can be direct with you for a moment, registration for the January 2025 cohort of The Art of Money closes soon.
If you’re reading this and you’re still trying to make a decision about whether or not to join us, I have some help for you.
See, the decision you’re trying to make now is a money decision: Should you spend money on improving your relationship with money?
Feels like a bit of a tangled paradox, right?
Well, let’s use this moment as a chance to g...

The Art of Money and the hope that pulls us to a new money reality.
Hello friend,
In case you haven’t sorted it out by now, we’re in a whole new year (personally I’m still not totally getting that it’s 2025 yet.)
Somehow it’s just the second week of the year and it already feels like several months have passed. This seems to happen whenever there’s a horrible disaster happening, like what’s happening with the fires in California.
Despite the slow passage of time, it’s that phase of the year when most of us are setting goals, getting settled in our seats...

When Thing Fall Apart: A letter about the fires in California.
Dear friend,
As you likely know, we’re in the middle of our registration period for a 3-month Art of Money program that starts in 4 days.
But I want to take a pause on that and address something that a lot of us are holding in our minds and hearts right now…
The fires in the L.A. area of California.
Like many of you, I’m feeling the emotions around it all, even though we don’t live in California anymore.
The destruction is heartbreaking for everyone there and for those of us watch...

What to do when you can’t solve a big money riddle.
Hi friend,
Do you remember that scene in Lord of the Rings where Gandalf and Frodo and the whole fellowship of the ring crew were on a long, epic journey, and they were stuck at large stone doors, called The Doors of Durin, that had a riddle inscribed on it?
For hours and hours they sat before that stone door in the moonlight, trying to solve the riddle inscribed in stone in the elvish language. “Speak, friend, and enter,” was all the riddle said.
If they could solve it, the door would ...

The practical side of overcoming underearning.
Hi Friend,
Do you ever get the feeling that you’re underearning? That the work you’re doing in the world isn’t quite bringing in the amount of money that it deserves? That sometimes you’re “over-yessing” and not making any progress, when what you really want to do is overcome underearning?
If you’re like most folks in the Art of Money community, the answers to those questions will be a emphatic YES. And believe me, I’ve had those feelings in so many different phases of my journey of workin...
Over-yessing, under-no’ing, and overcoming underearning.

How to use somatic psychology to heal your money relationship
Dear friend,
I hope you enjoyed our little experiment with the “podcast” conversation about my concept of “money stories” that I sent a couple days back.
The celebration of The Art of Money Live 3-month Financial Therapy Program being open for registration continues today with another “song” on the Money Mixtape I made for you.
This second “song” on the mixtape is a clip from the first ever live 3-month version of the Art of Money program that I taught this past Fall in 2024.
It’s a ...

A Money Mixtape and Art of Money Registration Is Open!
Hey friend,
Are you ready for something a little…different? Because holy moly do I have something different for you today.
First, though, here’s the larger context of what’s happening: The second round of my live, 3-month financial therapy program, The Art of Money, begins in just a week and a half on January 16th, which is when the first live class will happen.
Registration for this round of the program is open now, and will be open until the night of the first class.
Okay, so he...

Create Your Year-End Money Ritual
Dear Money Adventurer,
I’m a huge believer in pausing at the end of things.
Savoring the view at the top of that mountain you just climbed. Taking a few deep, heartfelt breaths at the end of that project. Saying a prayer of gratitude to your old house as you leave it for a new one. Taking a moment to honor, celebrate, grieve, and acknowledge what’s happened.
That’s what this time of year is, at its best, for me.
It’s time to slow down and look back … before looking ahead.
Today, l...
