GREY: Saturday Snippet
If she is going to make Gabrian understand, she must start from the beginning and tell her everything. She takes a deep breath, a sip of her coffee, and looks out the window at the ocean that lies before her as the words find their way to her lips.
“In the beginning of mankind, as the clans evolved and divided, there came to be a group of souls that were much more exceptional than the rest—a gifted people. They lived in peace among the other clans for many years and at first these people were all known as the Aucyen Arguros or in the common tongue, the Ancient Silver ones.” Sarapheane watches as Gabrian’s brow lifts in disbelief as she listens.
“But as nature would have it, because of their special abilities to do inexplicable things, the other clans began to distrust them. Fear arose amongst those who did not hold such powers. Once rivalry and conflict began to arise within the clans, the others were stripped of their knowledge about the Silvers’ abilities. Their minds were swept clean by the Mages with compulsion that was learned by the Elders and thus forward kept in the dark about what they were and the gifts that they possessed since the humans were known to be a cruel race at times, especially about things they could not comprehend.”
Unable to take her mother seriously, Gabrian laughs reflexively at her mother’s attempts to enlighten her. Wanting to play along, Gabrian bites for information. “Mages...like ‘witches and warlock’ stuff?”
“Yes.”
“So your big serious talk is just you wanting to tell me a scary bedtime story? Seriously?” She wonders if her mother has somehow fallen off her rocker after she retired and moved out to the ends of the Earth. “About witches? I think it is a bit early in the day for that mother.”
“Gabrian, please, just listen,” Sarapheane insists, placing her hand gently but firm against the top of her daughter’s knee—a straight line drawn across her mouth erases the humor from its edges. As crazy as she knows this must sound to her daughter, she has to know the truth.
Taking another sip of her coffee, Gabrian waves her free hand in surrender to her mother’s wishes. “Okay, fine, you win!” she says, unable to wipe the grin from her face, convinced that her mother has lost it. Gabrian based her entire life on logistic conclusions and hopes there will be one at the end of her mother’s story. Nothing so far has even come close to resembling anything logical.
“Over time, the Mages and the humans became more integrated, even coupling in marriage at times. Although the Elders frowned upon it, it was not entirely forbidden. If a human proved worthy, then they were permitted to become one of the people of the Realm. Once a member, they were compelled to secrecy and only then were the gifts of the ancient Silvers revealed to them. Only then were their eyes awakened and the silver-colored auras of the Mages would be visible to them.”
As the secrets within her mother’s story begin to unravel, hitting a bit closer to home, Gabrian desists her mocking grin as the word ‘aura’ is mentioned. All the memories of her so-called nightmare come flooding back, it dawns on her that it may not have been a nightmare at all.

GREY
GREY (The Covenant of Shadows) is the story about a young logically wired psychologist who is thrown into a supernatural world that is anything but logical and must find control of her true self in order to survive the Darkness that haunts her.
A supernatural, thriller, urban fantasy novel.
All the truths of her life were born from the promise of a lie.
A lie that could change everything.
Gabrian Shadwell studied hard and kept her nose to the grindstone in order to live the successful full-life most humans strive for. The problem is, she isn’t exactly human...

“Feeling that she might begin to slip backwards from all the progress she has made, Ethan decides that it is time to step it up a notch in her training. It’s time to pull her out of the comfort zone he has allowed her to create in his office. “Enough of this, let’s go for a walk.” He says jumping up out of his chair and grabbing his coat.
“You mean, outside?” Gabrian eyes widen and her face becomes absent of all color like she has just seen a ghost. She always felt safe within the wall of his office; now he is taking that away. Gripping the wooden window frame, she feels the tips of her fingers start to burn; the same sensation that she always gets when she becomes upset.
“Of course outside. Where else do you take a walk?” Ethan laughs holding out Gabrian’s jacket for her and noticing her discontent. “We have been cooped up in her too long. It’s time to hit the town.”
Gabrian gives him a pleading look hoping he will change his mind and let her stay inside. He grins at her and throws the jacket at her playfully. “I need a coffee and the brew here has much to be desired. Wouldn’t you like to have a real one?”
Her apprehension begins to subside as the thoughts of holding a warm fragrant coffee within her hands begins to sound pretty good.
“I know a great little coffee shop just up the street.”
“I guess it wouldn’t hurt to step out for a bit.” Gabrian pulls her coat on and reaches for the hat in her pocket to ward off the cold that awaits them outside.
“Great!” Ethan cheers and heads for the exit. “To the Coffee Hound it is. They have a great little gingerbread flavored Mocha called The Enchanted forest that you might enjoy.”

Monday blurb from GREY
Monday blurb from GREY
A rustle of voices rush through the room on the tips of the people’s tongues as the fellowships whisper amongst themselves, discussing all the nightmarish visions they fathomed to be true. Hearing enough of this nonsense, Vaeda steps into the light and candidly thrusts herself towards them.
A hush comes over the multitude in discovery of her sudden appearance and they fumble backwards, pushing against each other to make room as Vaeda cuts like a knife through the crowd of onlookers to approach the circle of Elders, taking her place at the high table. In Cera’s absence, Vaeda and Orroryn hold the house.
“It’s about time she showed up.” A few voices grumble aloud within the masses.
“Nice of you to join us, lady of Zephyr,” Cimmerian says, rolling his eyes before he looks down the bridge of his nose at her.
Vaeda enters the circle with her honor intact and smiles sweetly, brushing off his discontent as if unnoticed. She is known for her civility and kindness, but her gentile ways can easily be set aside if need be. With one whispered word of magic, she can bring down the wrath of oblivion for most of those seated before her. And they all knew it.

GREY (The Covenant of Shadows) is the story about a young logically wired psychologist who is thrown into a supernatural world that is anything but logical and must find control of her true self in order to survive the Darkness that haunts her.
A supernatural, thriller, urban fantasy novel.
Kade CookAll the truths of her life were born from the promise of a lie.
A lie that could change everything.
Gabrian Shadwell studied hard and kept her nose to the grindstone in order to live the successful full-life most humans strive for. The problem is, she isn’t exactly human.
After protection wards and cloaking spells are cast to suppress any evidence of magic that may be running through her veins begins scratching it way through the surface, Gabrian fumbles with the unnerving discovery that she can see hazy energy fragments emanating from her clients’ bodies. What is even more shocking is she yearns to devour it. Her perfect straight-forward life as a normal mundane human is just a façade that’s coming to an end. She is comprised of the things spine-chilling nightmares are made of.
With no possible way to return to the simple life she once knew, she struggles to concede to the fact the calm reality of her world has shifted and is now crawling with Borrowers, Mages, and Shadow Walking-beings. But Gabrian’s unyielding thirst for knowledge pushes her to dig her claws in and gain control over her gifts as an energy-lending Borrower—essential for her to survive and earn her place amongst them.
Her chaotic journey of self-discovery takes her from the pan and throws her right into the fire when the tainted eyes of the self-righteous Elders in the realm turn against her. The silken-tongued devil that lurks within the darkness of the realm seems to be the only thing with an empathetic concern towards her—for a price. Her soft-hearted will combats with her logical inner voice about who is really telling her the truth. She tastes the sweet and sours of deception in the air from both sides, but she must choose which force will reign over her freedom thus deciding how tight her shackles will be on the new path she will walk upon.
It is an inner battle she must fight in order to uncover the ugly answers she seeks, and along the way, Gabrian will fall face first into an important and absolute truth—sometimes the only difference between a Borrower and a Vampire is hope.
