There is something beautiful about poetry – just today a 4 year old asked me what a poem was at my book reading in Kitab Khana. And as enamored as I was to answer that question I also felt it can’t be answered as for poems are all about feelings and if only feelings could be explained; they can be only shared I guess…

Hard work is the key, That’s what my teacher taught me. She wants me to succeed. She wants to try, not to cry and

to make my wings fly. She told me, on the way to success, hard work is your best ally.

I would like to teach my teacher how to make a flying car that takes you to the sun and stars.

My teacher loves to teach Her dress is always peach

New Book Announcement

[image error]A children’s poetry book

So it is here. Finally. All of the children I work with wanted it to be a story but guess I love poems a little too much and the third book/baby is again a poetry book for kids!

“If I could teach my teacher” will be out soon and naturally I am over the moon. The hard work is finally coming to an end and we will now enjoy some rhyme and verse together (Think I am rhyming again!).

And to celebrate this joyful occasion, you are all invited. Please do join me on June 10th (details on the above invite). Look forward to reading and rhyming with you!

happy

There are no coincidences only synchronicities and as I am beginning to believe, am beginning to beam with love. Yesterday I found myself stuck and so I wrote, I journal-ed which I always do when am glee or blue and then I called a friend and I shared and that’s it things started to look up, after sometime I found myself opening up a book that had arrived from Amazon almost a month ago and it was just what I needed called “The Obstacle is the way” by Ryan Holiday and half way through it and I feel guided already. This morning I woke up an eager beaver expecting my nephews to arrive and planning the play date and the vegan cake and the props and the works but it got cancelled last minute and sure I was bummed but then they are coming tomorrow.

I decided to head for a massage and treated myself to my favourite meal – chinese food, caramel custard and then I met one of my students who hates English ironically and he ended up expressing his feelings about the language in a poem he wrote – which was hilarious – what was so wonderful about this whole experience was that he wrote a funny poem, he enjoyed the experience of writing it and we were all really proud of him.

He still isn’t too fond of the subject though. And then in another class, we wrote another poem – a little girl wrote a poem to read it on her grandfather’s 80th birthday – and it was heart warming what she wrote. At first she was adamant that she wanted to rhyme but then I explained to her that if she insisted too hard the meaning would be lost and she came around.

Lastly, I felt everything I needed came to me today effortlessly be it the compliments, the creativity (this blog and I haven’t blogged in a while as you will notice), joy, sharing, good mood, care and a lot of other things and I am grateful for it all, for all the support, for all the co-operation and grace and I wish you the same and hope you continue to widen that smile on your face. Love, S

P.S. Amongst a million miracles that happened today (I heard from my bff from Toronto who is expecting her second baby) one of the most surprising and sweetest one was the one I saw when I came home – a glittering golden egg came in from my pet window – Easter is early

Nehru Center Releases “A Book I Wrote”

Librarians are light. They illumine young innocent minds and inspire children to read, write, create, express and live. Arati Desai is one such inspiring librarian – I have had the fortune to meet last year. She manages the Nehru Center Library like it is her home – her temple – her sacred sanctum. And you can see how the place shimmers and shines in her light.

When she wrote to me to pick out entries for the Nehru Center Poetry and Story Writing Competition last year – needless to say I was delighted and honoured. I was on my way out in a week to Wales for my course – on Writing for health (So I sent them this video) and well being but this is an opportunity I didn’t want to miss. To encourage young minds who have poured their precious time and creativity into poems and stories was sheer pleasure to be a part of.

And it all came to fruition today when the book launched with publisher MomSays.

When I first laid my eyes on the book – called “A Book I wrote” I was convinced that it was indeed a labor of love – something that everyone involved with it had felt deeply for. Available on request at the Nehru Center Library – this book has a collection of poems & short stories that were written by children from various schools across Mumbai. The launch of the book saw parents, teachers, librarians and even grand parents come and encourage the kids whose poems and stories were published.

An initiative that will continue every year – to encourage and promote young talent – I can’t wait to read my copy of “A book I wrote”.

Hope you are having a lovely weekend. Tell me about something you wrote or read, or better still send me a note instead. PO BOX 6053, Colaba Post Office, Mumbai 5

Let’s SEEK. Let’s SHARE. Let’s Not Pretend It Isn’t There!

[image error]Support MPower in their initiative to spread awareness about mental health

I have always felt strongly about mental health, having suffered from depression as an adolescent and a teenager and anxiety as an adult until very recently – I know and understand what it is to suffer on the inside and therefore this lead me into exploring ways and means of healing – such as Writing for therapy – a course I did in Wales last year. Read more about it here

https://videodelivery-bhaskar.akamaized.net/delivery/nat/2018/02/23/writing_1.mpg_ok_1519329002/mp4/v360.mp4

And now I am ready to practice and work with people to use words for wellness and healing and am delighted to share that my first workshop is on Saturday the 10th of March at 10.30 am – you can register here.

And often the world comes to support you in your endeavor – if you see the video above – it shows how Teen Talk India too wanted to share how writing can be beneficial to teenagers in expressing their fears, feelings and anxiety. We also show you a few exercises that one can do from home safely on their own.

https://www.mpowerminds.com/ is a brilliant and inspiring organization founded by the very dynamic Mrs. Neerja Birla and I am doing my little drop in the ocean to support this noble initiative that needs all of us to speak up and share. You too can stamp out the stigma by sharing your pics and inviting your friends to do so here
