Whispers in Verse – #Inspirational #Poetry on #Sale

REVIEWS for Whispers
Reviewed By Erin Nicole Cochran for Readers’ Favorite
Whispers In Verse by Cynthia A. Morgan is a collection of poetry that reads like a combination of poetic Shakespeare and a mysterious conjuration of a magician from the medieval era. The two blend into one unique writing style, which creates a sense of peace and serenity, as though a meditative mantra surrounds the person reading, except there are many words spoken instead of only a handful. One of my favorite poems is on page 101 and is called The Wondering Bystander. The last two lines, in particular, flood me with life, time, and memories tangled together: “Merging Past and Present to Kiss the forehead of The Wondering Bystander.”
Cynthia A. Morgan’s Whispers In Verse was like no other poetry book I have read. It pulls you into the story and out of the present entirely, drawing you into a place you haven’t seen or been before, another world of time where things slow down, and the rushing here and rushing there of life pauses. Whispers In Verse finds a way to tap into our circadian rhythm and creates a place we can be without reaching out to text, email, or field a call. Also accompanying the poems are tranquil and beautiful images of nature that help keep readers in peaceful respite from the rest of the busy world. The vibrant colors of nature and the sun bring a measure of warmth to readers as they flip the pages.

Morgan Annwyn, Poetry & Muse – “Whispers in Verse” is a collection of lyrical poems about nature, finding inner quietness, and appreciating the beauty of the seemingly insignificant. Morgan’s lexicon and word choices are not only uniquely beautiful, but intriguing combinations such as Thunderous Silence’ and ‘The Cheering Hush’. Nothing short of spectacular, this breathtaking journey into stillness and tranquility reminds readers of the importance of each moment, every breath, drop of rain, rainbow, and star-filled sky. The poems are mostly free verse, yet Morgan’s style has its own gentle rhythm that is easy to read. Set to perfection by stunning photographs, I was entirely enthralled. Highly Recommended for readers of all ages.

A Splendid Giggle – #Thoughts for #DailyLiving
I recently read an article about the (not so) amazing benefits of laughter (found here: http://www.webmd.com/balance/features/give-your-body-boost-with-laughter) , which got me thinking… When was the last time you had a really splendid giggle? A laugh-until-you-cried laugh? If it’s been more than a few days, then it may have been too long.
My coworkers and I went for lunch one bright day…nothing special, just a little spot nearby that has really good pork barbeque sandwiches ( which is a specialty in our part of the country and not at all what you might expect since no BBQ sauce is involved)….and ice cream! Not necessarily a great combo, but when you have a few hours to kill…
If you know anything about me yet, you know one thing for sure; wherever I go, laughter ensues. Not to say that I can’t be serious, I can, but giggles are just so nice, really, aren’t they? So it doesn’t take very long before we are doing more laughing than eating, before we are quoting Seinfeld episodes, Big Bang Theory, and generally having more fun than anyone else in the place. Not unusual, actually; I like to enjoy myself.
It’s a Friday, by the by. This means it’s the one day a week I allow myself a soda (or Pop, depending on your location), specifically Mountain Dew Voltage: Bottled Blue Bliss. 90 lovely mg’s of caffeinated liquid candy to supercharge my morning, since I am most assuredly NOT a morning person. On top of that I’ve also ingested an additional 96 mg’s of caffeine thanks to a morning Starbuck’s Gingerbread Mocha Chai Latte (but that is a post entirely worthy of itself!) In other words, I am about as revved as a person can legally be during the first three hours of the work day.
I confess Diet Coke with lunch was not a brilliant idea and at this point, I am the resident entertainment for my coworkers, it’s a lark, if you can keep up with me, but this is not the end of the story…No No No! This is the beginning. I mentioned this lovely little luncheonette serves Ice Cream, did I not? Yes, I did and they do, but they do not serve just the plain old dish with a few rainbow sprinkles; they create masterpieces of confection worthy of the Louvre.
Admittedly, the sundae should have been the entire meal, but in all honesty, it was an afterthought, and in spite of my vociferous protestations, my charming coworkers select the perfect dessert prepared especially for me.
Peanut Butter Overload. (and yes, it is everything it’s name promises it will be) Chocolate ice cream, hot fudge, liquid peanut butter, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup pieces, peanuts and, in case that isn’t quite enough sugar to put you into a coma, whipped cream with three….THREE…cherries. (feel free to insert orgasmic sigh here) Heaven Help Me!
Thirty minutes later, I am officially buzzed without having ingested even an infinitesimal drop of alcohol, but we have to get back to work, believe it or not. Into the car we climb (and I actually manage that miraculous feat without incident), and off we go. 15 minute drive, Easy Peasy, right?
Wrong.
I cannot honestly tell you what set me off. In my state, it may have been anything, but I start giggling. It’s a cute little giggle, really, and it’s as infectious as any giggle could be. Unaware of the joke, my coworkers join in and before long we are all laughing, which is ridiculous, since no one knows what we are laughing at, which makes me laugh all the more; curls bouncing, tears coming, cant-catch-my-breath mirth that has a predictable outcome. Everyone else laughs too, until we are all breathless and teary-eyed.
Honestly, I have no idea how we got back to work, since my friend driving the car was crying so hard she couldn’t possibly see the road, but make it back we did and, after sitting in the parking lot for another five minutes catching our breath we finally dismount and adjourn to the office.
Not amazingly, (after the queue for the loo diminished) although the morning had been taxing, we now felt refreshed, rejuvenated and (I’m looking for another R-word)…revitalized; sugar and caffeination not withstanding, (since I was the only one thusly intoxicated.)
So the next time you are feeling peckish, feel free to find a little luncheonette and enjoy a bite with your crew, but be sure,
be Absolutely SURE,
that you have yourself an UTTERLY SPLENDID GIGGLE.

Showers of Blessings – The #Benefits of #Gratitude
Being Grateful means, by Oxford’s definition, a readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness; having or showing the desire or reason to thank someone for giving pleasure or comfort. Being Grateful means you know you are indebted to someone for some action undertaken by them that benefited you in some manner and consciously acknowledging that appreciation. Gratitude can take unnumbered shapes and forms, from tickets to the hottest show in town to a brand new Porsche (theoretically speaking, of course), but often gratitude comes in gentler doses; a simple inclination of the head, a tearful, wordless hug, a handshake and poignant look into another’s eyes. Yet however it comes, it is one of the most important things we can ever do.
Expressing gratitude rewards; it builds bridges, it alleviates tensions, it sets a higher standard, but it also opens the doors and windows to blessings untold. It sets aside our baser, more selfish tendencies and allows us to be, if only for a few moments, the people we all wish we could be far more frequently. It makes princes out of paupers and, conversely, paupers out of princes; it is a leveler of scores and a righter of wrongs and no matter how it is expressed, if it is genuine, it is always significant.
Imagine, for a moment, that you are a laborer working at some menial job; cleaning bathrooms perhaps, collecting garbage, mopping floors somewhere. Every day you come in on time, do your job conscientiously and without complaint; you leave only when your task is done completely and correctly, but no one ever says a word to you. If you didn’t do this job, the resulting mess would be atrocious, yet people pass by you all the while you work, stepping to the far side of the hall or moving to the other side of the room rather than approaching you and no one, not even your boss, tells you that you are doing a good job.
Then one day, out of the blue, a complete stranger comes up to you and says Thank You. They tell you they truly appreciate your willingness to do a job that not many others would do and they even go so far as to shake your hand, although you are grimy and they are pressed and polished. It only takes a moment, then they go on their way, but their simple act changes everything. You hold your head higher, walk with a lighter step; you go home, tell those close to you what happened, share how good it made you feel and, regardless of the fact that no one, not even your boss, has ever told you how important you are, you value yourself much more highly.
When you go back to work, you feel so good, so essential, you begin taking on extra responsibilities without being asked; you work a few extra minutes each day tidying up or polishing something that has been neglected for months. You talk to people more willingly; you share a smile more easily; you begin noticing the things that others do, which go unspoken, and you take time to extend a token of appreciation to them. A small note of thanks for cleaning the windows so well or a bottle of water for the man cutting the grass outside in the summer heat, and as a result of all of this, you feel even better about yourself.
Not too long after this change occurs, your boss stops by unannounced to speak with you. He tells you that he has noticed what a great job you’ve been doing lately, how hard you have been working and how well you treat your coworkers and the company’s clientele. He explains that a new position has recently been created by management, one for which he feels you would be perfect, and asks if you would be interested in a promotion and a raise. Then he stands back and watches you smile.
And all because someone thanked you.
Yes, Gratitude is a miracle worker, and if we remember to be thankful for our blessings, big or small, trite or unique, miraculous or mundane, our appreciation invariably opens the floodgates and allows Heaven to send down Showers of Blessings beyond imagining.

How Do You Know it’s Write? – A #Perspective on #Writers #Inspiration
August…BLECK! (I’m not entirely sure that is a word, but I’m going with it) This week has been the hottest week of the year (so far) and I am one unhappy little camper. Tuesday 94 degrees; Wednesday 96 degrees; Thursday 97 degrees; Today (yep, it’s Friday!) 98 degrees with enough humidity to make it feel like the notorious sauna outside (Or In HERE, Thank you Cosmo Kramer). Under these circumstances, being an autumn and winter person myself, I am not likely to be found out of doors under many circumstances if it can possibly or, with a little ingenuity, be avoided. Thank God in His Heaven for the man who invented air conditioning!
Unless, of course, your central A/C unit has burned up. Uh-huh, you heard me correctly: hottest week of the year and me with no A/C. (Weep for me if the tears will come!) Now for someone who will happily go for a walk in 30 degrees and flying snow, this situation is certainly not ideal, and for someone (like me) who has a sunlight allergy (It’s true, but that’s an entirely different post, yet again) and literally becomes ill if exposed to heat for any great length of time, the situation is more like HADES on Earth. Fans are wonderful, yes, and they are of great benefit when you are sitting at your computer writing with three of them pointed at you (as I presently am) and have ice packs draped over your body to keep you cool; still, when its 95 INSIDE your house…..(again, feel free to commiserate tearfully should the spirit so move you )
Understand, my wonderful sister and her family live less than 5 miles away and their A/C unit is working perfectly; cool, dry, sweet air abounds and the tropical swelter of July is blissfully locked out of her home, yet here I sit, (enjoying a free sauna whether I want one or not) typing away rather than tearing out of here like I’ve just seen a 6 foot tall spider in the dining room. One might question my mental stability (and probably with good reason!)
What the Harry Potter is wrong with me, You ask? Nothing. Well, nothing that can be easily diagnosed. The simple truth is, I love writing this much and I love sharing my writing so much that I would willingly subject myself to the tropical torture of 95 degrees and 99% humidity (OH please let it rain!) rather than go postless for a single day (again, not sure if that’s a word, but you all understood me so it’s staying…)
So if you ever find yourself wondering if you are on the right path, doing what you are “supposed” to be doing, using your gifts as intended, you might consider what is it that YOU would endure to do whatever it is that you want/like to do. If you find yourself answering that you would rather go sit in the A/C, that you would sacrifice nothing, or you would find the path of least resistance in order to achieve your objective, you may just want to reconsider your strategy.
(and now, if you will excuse me, I’m going to submerse myself in Happy Thoughts!)
Let it Snow! Let It Snow! LET IT SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

With You – #FreeForm #LovePoetry
Love is a Timeless Endeavor. It is not Fleeting or Transient. It does not turn its face away in times of trouble. It does not look backward, wondering. Love Stands Strong. It Holds Fast when mighty waves crash against it and when storms lash upon the shore. Love is not a Flickering Flame, washed by the currents that brush past it; Love is a Blaze, Burning Brightly, Radiating Fiercely, Lingering Long past the Elemental Inferno, where embers Softly Glow through the long night.
Love is not a shadow, lurking, suspicious and mean-spirited; it is not unkind or vindictive. Love Fills the Souls of Two made entirely for each other and offers an Irreplaceable Opportunity to Cherish and Be Cherished.
Love is not self-seeking. It does not look to its own needs, but only to Another’s. It Helps, Guides, Protects, and Prays. It Waits long past the expected time of arrival, Never Faltering. It Gives Without Recompense and does not wander when there is little. Love is Stronger Than Steal, yet far more Delicate than a Single Strand of precious silk.
Love does not waver or meander, tasting all the temptations along the way, but Hungers and Thirsts for One Alone. Love is Winsome. Love is Magical. Love makes the ordinary, Remarkable. Love Stands on the Mountain and Shouts to the Highest Heaven. Love Whispers just above Perception, Hoping to be heard.
Love is Breathless. Love is Frenzied. Love is Patient. Love is Willing. Love is truly a Many Splendored Thing.
But Only
When Love is
With You.

Brazen Reverie – #LovePoetry
The Hours of Night Pour through the casement,
Secret, Yet Unhidden,
Clutching at my Train of Thought;
An Addiction that’s Unbidden.
Twilight circles Menacing outside the Darkened door,
Her Indigo spread wide,
Cloaking all my Reticence,
Until I’ve nowhere left to Hide.
The Hours strike and echo in this Brazen Reverie,
Impervious to Haste,
With You, Initiative is Sweet,
Though rarely ever Chaste.

The Burning Question – What is Your Favourite #Poem?
Yes, I do apologize, I didn’t get off to a fabulous start here, been a while, no excuses, terribly sorry!
Something a bit more relevant than the last Burning Question: What is your favourite Poem and, of course, Why? (and yes, it can certainly be one of your own or by a fellow blogger) Please Post that poem (or a link to it if it is lengthy) and Why you couldn’t possibly live without it.
Mine is, without a doubt, The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes ( found here: http://www.poets.org/viewmedia.php/prmMID/16431) It is a beautifully, tragic Narrative Poem that is romantic as well as sad, passionate as well as frightening, and evokes breathtaking imagery. I fell in love with this poem the first time I heard it in High School, and then, to my inexplicable delight, I discovered that Loreena McKennitt set it to music. Needless to say, it is now also one of my all time favourite songs…(listen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7Y-VBD0kRI )

Thee, My Love – #Love #Poetry
Fill, Thee My Love,
My Ever Wakeful mind with Words,
That my Heart’s Pleasure may Overflow
In Praise of You.
Bring, Thee My Love,
Sweet Succor to my Forlorn state,
That my Love’s Desire may Cherish
Only Ever You.
Tempt, Thee My Love,
With a Single Glance my Breath Steal,
Ever and Always, Enraptured
By the Vision of You.

One Breath, One Beat – #Poetry of #Love & #Passion
Impose upon my Heart
Thy Love’s Command,
For I will more Willingly Obey
Than Draw my next Breath.
From Thee Alone does my Love and Life extend,
And if I cannot Breathe Thee,
I would choose to Breathe
Not At All.
Compel my Heart to Pound
For Thee Alone, My Love,
For it would more Ardently Keep
Temperate Time with Thine,
Than Beat a single measure Unaided by Thy Fervor;
And if I cannot Touch Thy Heart,
I would choose for mine to Beat
Not At All.

Man of Beauty – #Poetry of #Love and #Passion
Man of Beauty,
Silence stands between us,
Perilously close, yet excruciating Far,
You are the Bright Morning Star
To my dark night,
Making everything Right.
Man of Strength,
Embodiment of my Desire
Touching my soul, Yet so far, so far,
Nowhere else but where You are;
Where I long to be,
With You, With Me.
Man of Passion,
Yearning lives in my every Breath,
Patience taking every Measure of Will,
Loneliness the bitterest pill,
Love Transcending,
Never Ending.
