Poem: “Alter, I” (#guestblogger)

I see a face yelling my name,

a set of hands drawing lines,

and a pair of eyes alike mine.

Step near, I say, but tread far;

there’s no I ’round these parts.

Eyes to see….

Two of Christ’s followers were walking to Emmaus.  They were discussing all that had happened when Christ began walking with them, but their eyes were kept from recognizing him.  Being blind to God’s presence happened in biblical times and still does today.  Mary Magdalene didn’t recognize him standing before her in the garden tomb and Cleopas and his friend don’t recognize him when he is walking alongside.

It was only when Christ opened their eyes that they saw him.  How blind we can be at times.  Blind to the pain and suffering of others, blind to our own actions and how they impact others.  We need to ask God for eyes to see and for his presence to soften hard hearts.

#poetry Persephone’s Ghost

This seems apropos to share as we begin looking forward to spring…

Persephone’s Ghost

Persephone’s ghost is rising

with her flower

plucked full bloom

she wanders

between this world

and the Underworld

torn between Mother’s love

and Lover’s passionate lust

Demeter’s pain

echoes in her daughter’s wailing

of innocence lost

of a Mother betrayed

stained by the very kiss of death

blood red upon her lips

the seeds bursting

on her tongue

condemning her

to the sweet caress

of Hades hands

in delicate ways

Persephone’s ghost is rising

from the land of the dead

to walk once more

with Mother Earth

calling her sisters

to come play among the flowers
