Coming Up Next
I have a confession: I was more than a little nervous to announce my new title and host a giveaway last week. The word CARAVAL holds a very special place in my heart, and sometimes it frightens me to share things that I feel particularly excited about. There’s always a fear that others won’t share my enthusiasm. So I truly want to thank everyone who commented on my blog, linked to this post on Facebook, or Tweeted about my new title. All of you helped make this announcement feel special, in a...

Giveaway + Exciting Announcement! My book has a new title: CARAVAL
I’ve always been a fan of imagined words and titles, like Illuminae, Serendipity, and Graceling. I love the magical feeling that each of these words evoke. So when my publisher approached me about changing the title of my book from HEARTS MADE OF BLACK to CARAVAL something immediately fluttered inside of me.
Caraval is a word that encompasses many things. It is a mysterious week-long game that blurs the lines between reality and fantasy. A place where people can taste colors and secrets are u...

Something Exciting Happened Over The Weekend
I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted any news. I’ve been busy working on revisions for HEARTS MADE OF BLACK, and blogging over atPub(lishing) Crawl. But something exciting happened this weekend and I wanted to share it.
I officially signed my contract withTwentieth Century Fox!
Most of the signatures had to be notarized—so this picture does not show me signing the entire thing, but I do feel as if it captures some of the excitement I was feeling. And since I’ve been getting more and mo...
So This Happened… I Sold A Book!
Here’s the official announcement from Publisher’s Marketplace:
It still feels very surreal to me. HEARTS MADE OF BLACK officially sold on July 26th, and I’ve been trying to write a post about it ever since, but I’m feeling pretty speechless. I was tempted to type a huge row of exclamation points and leave it at that, but my friendStacey Leesaid I should do a little something. So, if you’d like to learn a bit more (and win a gift card), check out the joint post we’ve donehere. Thanks so much...
Our Official Pitch Wars Picks (& a few fun extras)
Before we announce our official Pitch Wars mentee and alternate, we want to thank everyone once again for submitting to us. Stacey and I were both overwhelmed by the quality of entries and the amazing enthusiasm we felt from all of you on Twitter. It’s been so fun reading everyone’s work and connecting with all of you.
We genuinely wish we could pick more than one mentee. But since we can’t, we’ve decided to give a few additional awards for some of the extra delightful things that jumped out...

What’s In Our Pitch Wars Inbox?
Howdy all! I hope you’re all hanging in there as you wait for the #Pitchwars results.
Stacey and I figured it could be a rough wait, so this last weekend we got together and made a few videos describing what exactly was in our mysterious inbox.
We had both read all the entries that landed in our inbox (and continued to read together as they came in, see all the pictures taken by Stacey’s daughter).
Our video is down below. But, please note, the stats have changed since then, as the majority...
Pitch Wars’ Submission Window Is Now Closed–What’s Next?
First off, I just want to thank everyone who submitted to us once again. Two years ago, when I applied to this contest I remember how much thought I put into the mentors I chose–so every query we’ve received means a lot.
We’re also having a lot of fun reading every query!
Mentor picks won’t be announced until September 3rd, but since Stacey and I like to involve other people in our fun, we may be sharing a few videos over the next couple weeks that talk a little more about some of the trends...
