I’ve been meaning to go to the NYC public library anyway so will ask them about getting a card!
Comment on The Rise of the Practitioner-Publisher by Matthew John Tracy
Taylor – we hear a lot about this trend of ‘becoming an expert’ online for a specific niche. Do you think that this movement away from credentialism is a helping along or harming this trend? After all we are still often using credentials as a definer for these roles, even in the case of the modern ‘practitioner-publisher’ as you call it.
Very thought provoking posts btw, I am really loving this blog.

Great posting, happy to share it.
Quick note – I assume you work on a mac bc you ran into the bad font problem – parts of the posting are near to unreadable on a windows machine. You might want to replace that with a more readable font.

Awesome article, Taylor! Signing up on GoodReads now.
To add to #3 – I recommend using Overdrive too (overdrive.com). Pretty solid selection of ebooks and audiobooks that you can borrow for free with a library card, and unlike Audible you can have 10 items checked out at a time. I’ve been flying through audiobooks the past few months!
And if you’re abroad or your library doesn’t offer this, some libraries will give you a card as a non-resident and let you apply online for like $25/month.

I’m currently at 51 and aiming to get a minimum of another four finished this month – so I’ll agree with you here on most points. My plans partly revolve around fiction, and I’m mindful of Stephen King’s advice – that being a successful fiction author is 50% reading, 50% writing.
The only thing I’ll disagree with is 6) – unless you mean “physically excited” to be either fascinated or disgusted.
I’ve got a lot out of reading a couple of titles I knew I’d hate before I started reading. Someti...

”Getting a GoodReads account creates the same social pressure around reading that Facebook creates around living like a rock star. Instead of seeing selfies of some dude you knew in college on vacation in the Bahamas, you see how many books everyone is reading and feel driven to match them. If I’m going to feel inadequate, I might as well make it about something productive.”
This paragraph is brilliant. Spot on, as usual.
Do you buy books for your antilibrary or just keep a list?
