On Wednesday, September 29, 1976, at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium, “The Count” no-hit the Atlanta Braves for a 9-0 win. Montefusco struck out four and allowed just one base runner, issuing a fourth-inning walk to Jerry Royster.

A’s pitcher Atkinson no-hits Pittsburgh, 132 years ago today

At AtkinsonAt AtkinsonThe Philadelphia Athletics’ Al Atkinson no-hit the Pittsburgh Alleghenys (Pirates), 132 years ago today.


On Saturday, May 24, 1884, in an American Association match-up at Philadelphia’s Recreation Park, Atkinson notched his first-of two no-nos for a 10-1 victory.


The right-hander from Clinton, Illinois, who also played outfield for the A’s, threw his second no-no against the New York Metropolitans at Jefferson Street Grounds on Saturday, May 1, 1886.

Phillies’ Green no-hits Expos, 25 years ago today

On Thursday, May 23, 1991, Greene no-hit the Expos for a 2-0 win at Olympic Stadium. Greene struck out 10 but walked seven batters, needing 130 pitches to complete the no-no. Five days later, Greene threw a complete-game three-hit shutout against the Expos, striking out nine while walking none for a 12-0 win at Veterans Stadium.

Happy birthday Jordan Zimmermann, ‘Deacon’ Phillippe

Charles Charles “Deacon” PhillippeHappy 30th birthday to the Detroit Tigers’ Jordan Zimmermann, who threw a Washington Nationals no-hitter on the final day of the 2014 season.


On Sunday, September 28, 2014, Zimmermann no-hit the Miami Marlins for a 1-0 victory at Nationals Park. It was the first no-hitter for the Nationals franchise since its move from Montreal to D.C. (Expos pitchers tossed four no-hitters.)


Also born on this date, 144 years ago today, is Charles “Deacon” Phillippe, who tossed a no-hitter for the National League’s Louisville Colonels on Thursday, May 25, 1899. Phillippe no-hit the New York Giants for a 7-0 at Louisville’s Eclipse Park.

My autographed photo of Gene Collins.My autographed photo of Gene Collins.The Kansas City Monarchs’ Eugene Marvin Collins threw what is considered to be the final no-hitter in major Negro Leagues history, 67 years ago today.


On Sunday, May 22, 1949, Collins no-hit the Houston (relocated from Newark) Eagles for a 14-0 victory that may have been called early due to the mercy rule. Collins, a Kansas City native, was later signed by the Chicago White Sox but didn’t make it out of the minors. He also played in the Mexican League.

Happy 70th birthday to no-no thrower Jim Colborn

Jim ColbornJim ColbornHappy 70th birthday to Jim Colborn, who threw the first home stadium no-hitter for the Kansas City Royals.


Steve Busby threw two no-nos before Colborn, but both were on the road. On May 14, 1977, at Royals Stadium, Colborn no-hit the Texas Rangers for a 6-0 win. It was the first Royals no-no at the ball park now known as Kauffman Stadium.

Manzanillo throws Chinese league no-hitter, 24 years ago today

manzanillocardFormer major-league pitcher Ravelo Manzanillo threw the second no-hitter in the history of the Chinese Professional Baseball League, 24 years ago today.


On Thursday, May 21, 1992, Manzanillo, playing for the Brother Elephants, no-hit the Wei Chuan Dragons for a 4-0 win.


Nine years later, while pitching for the Mexican League’s Yucatan Lions on June 28, 2001, Manzanillo threw a 7-inning no-hitter gainst the Campeche Pirates, according to Baseball-Reference.com. And Ravelo’s brother, Josias Manzanillo, pitched the 100th no-hitter in the history of the AA Eastern League on July 12, 1989, according to the site.

On Sunday, May 17, 1998, Wells threw a perfect game at Yankee Stadium for a 4-0 win over the Minnesota Twins. It was the first Yankees’ perfecto since Don Larsen’s gem in Game 5 of the 1956 World Series.
