WAVE3News in “Derby City” features author of Deadly Lullaby

Robert McClure, Author of Deadly Lullaby
Connie Leonard of WAVE3 News in Louisville, Kentucky, provides the local flavor for recently released eBook, Deadly Lullaby, penned by Louisville’s home grown lawyer and author Robert McClure. Here are some excerpts:
A present-day, crime-fiction thriller, Deadly Lullaby comes from the legal mind of Louisville native Robert McClure. “A lot of people are going to see it and hopefully love it, ” McClure said. A couple clicks of a mouse and we see they already are. Many reader reviews on several sites give four stars to McClure’s work.

The Murray State criminology major started building characters when he was a boy.
“I grew up right across the street from Churchill Downs,” he said. “My father was a gunsmith. He had a shop in our garage and later he moved the shop to 7th Street Road, which is notorious in its own right, back in those days.” The stories got better as the [duPont Manual High School] track athlete and football player matured. “I worked in dad’s shop and cops came in all the time and shady people came in, too,” he said.

Deadly Lullaby stirs feelings of trepidation for fate of main characters
Robert McClure has written a rollicking debut novel of family and felony in Deadly Lullaby, a crime fiction thriller. Published by Random House and Alibi (its mysteries and suspense division), Deadly Lullaby was released as an eBook yesterday (9/29/2015). McClure skillfully weaves a story of a father’s love for his estranged son and the son’s struggle to love his father back while fighting the underbelly of organized crime with a mob hitman for a father.
Frankly, this blog post’s author has never read a story like Deadly Lullaby with such trepidation for what might lie ahead for its main characters. The story picks up speed at such a whiplash pace toward the middle that I found it hard to put down until learning whether “Babe”, the father, manages to reconcile with Leo, his son, amidst tangles with the Italian mafia, a Russian drug lord and an Asian mobster. The story is set in Los Angeles. (Not to dis L.A., the beautiful City of Angels, but the author’s hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, is not a likely back drop for a story that leaves a trail of mobster corpses.)
Calmann-Levy, which is publishing Deadly Lullaby in France next year, paid McClure to write a sequel, which he has already begun. Slovakian publisher Ikar and Czech publisher Eromedia, also purchased rights to publish Deadly Lullaby.
McClure has received previous accolades for his short stories, including “My Son” on which the novel Deadly Lullaby is based. “My Son” was published in Best American Mystery Stories 2009, edited by Otto Penzler with guest editor Jeffrey Deaver. Watching the writer at work on Deadly Lullaby
BooksChatter met up with Robert McClure, the author of the new crime fiction thriller, Deadly Lullaby, for an interview to find out what inspired him to write the book, what makes the book unique, whether his novel reflects any of his experiences, and more (click here). When asked to describe his writing process, McClure responded: “In a word, boring.” McClure said he rises very early to write, usually at 5:00 a.m., but often earlier with a lot of interesting and even weird thoughts swirling around in his head. But, he said that “[t]he mechanics of the process is boring to watch: I just sit at the computer and stroke the keyboard.” But one creature has been at his side during the entire process to watch it all . . .
. . . okay, well, maybe even he had a hard time staying awake but . . .
Ricky says it’s a really good read, even though the author, his “servant”, ignored requests to include him in the story.

John Leonardo Crucci and Leonardo Dominic Crucci, a Deadly Lullaby
When characters with beautiful, melodic names like Leonardo and Dominic, go by “Babe” and “Leo”, it can only mean one thing: There’s a Deadly Lullaby in the offing. McClure juxtaposes the lives of a career hit man father and a police detective son, a son who rebuffs his father’s attempts at reconciliation. Could he fear revealing a darker side within himself? This crime fiction thriller, told in the voices of both Babe and Leo, skillfully weaves a story of a father’s undying love for his son while giving readers a riveting view into the often intense world of organized crime and the fights from both within and without. Peter Swanson, author of The Kind Worth Killing, says, “I loved both of these flawed characters. Robert McClure has written a rousing debut, elevated by pitch-perfect dialogue and a whiplash pace.”
