“There are things it is better for a person not to know. The day and the manner of your own death, that’s one, or whether or not you’re going to fuck your mother and kill your father. What people say behind your back. The names somebody you love has called somebody else. There’s a reason people are able to function, in this world, as social creatures, and a good part of that reason is that there are a lot of questions intelligent people don’t ask.”
Tara Isabella Burton, Social Creature

“stupidity, like happiness, is a luxury,”

“Louise thinks: we cannot be known and loved at the same time.”

Esdaile Tara, I think you are one of my oldest friends in Goodreads (old as friend of course not old in age). I was interested to see that you gave 5 stars to Péguy's Le Mytère de la la charité de Jeanne d'arc. Why is the title given in English in goodreads? Is there even an English version? I have just bought it via ebay and I think I shall be very impressed having read a couple of pages and seeing it approaches the dilemma of the Christian who knows Satan is in each and everyone of us (exception- the Redeemer?). I was frustrated that you gave it 5 stars but no comment! I should like to know what you liked about it so much and I presume you read French to have given it five stars? Greetings from occupied Germany
Esdaile

haha, Javid! I can't read slower, even if I try. Was doing 3 books a day when alone in Tbilisi; now that I'm home with family it's slowed to just the one...
