Quotes to Write By – Day 13 . . . with a BONUS!

I have two quotes today from two different authors: Daniel José Older and Ray Bradbury.

Older

From a superficial perspective, it appears that these men don’t have much in common. However, both Older and

Bradbury

Bradbury are exceptionally talented writers. Yes, are. Even though Ray Bradbury has died, his stories are still read and discussed today. For example, Fahrenheit 451 was one of the first-ever dystopian novels! Bradbury was also a screenwriter and he worked in many different genres: fa...

Quotes to Write By – Day 12

This quote is deep. So deep that I’m not even going to say anything about it. Instead, I’ll meditate on it and let it do all the talking.

Quotes to Write By – Day 11

Today’s quote comes from Mildred D. Taylor, author of award-winning middle-grade titles such as, “Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry”, “The Gold Cadillac” (which I need to read), and “The Road to Memphis”, which is one of my own personal top ten coming of age books.

Quotes to Write By – Day 9

Today’s quote comes from poet and author, Maya Angelou.

Maya Angelou

When I was a little girl and won my first writing competition at the age of seven, I didn’t think I could become a famous author or even published until I grew older and read books written by other people of color. In fact, I never considered it. Why? Well, to satiate your curiosity as to why I felt this way, please read this post. Tragically, the status quo hasn’t changed though. Famous black authors (famous as in equivalen...

Quotes to Write By – Day 8

Today’s quote comes from my most recent accomplishment.

I wrote a picture book story.

I wrote my second picture book. My first picture book was called “Abigail and the Butterfly Masquerade.” I’ve never submitted it and may self-publish it someday or submit it to a publishing house.

This most recent attempt at writing a picture book was a lot of fun and really hard. Why? Because the word count limit is 1500 words. It took me three days to complete the first draft.

Quotes to Write By – Day 7

I remember when I was in middle school and wrote every single day without fail. I had a green spiral notebook covered in doodles and stickers. I filled the pages with poems, titles to stories or chapter titles to story ideas. I poured my heart and soul onto those pages, often spilling dark secrets I wouldn’t even tell my closest friend. Once that notebook filled, I bought another one and continued the process.

Quotes to Write By – Day 6

So much is going on. I feel like no matter how much I plan and prioritize my life that I’m getting nowhere.

I have a deadline for a short story that I want to submit to a magazine and a picture book (I’ve only written one of these) for a contest.

Unfortunately, the words come, but I don’t think the story’s endings are good enough. I have a decent beginning and middle, but the ending? Oh dear.

Usually, I’m pretty good at writing the endings to my stories. I have often had the ending thoroughl...
