Dean Hamilton was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He spent the first half of his childhood chasing around the prairies and western Canada before relocating to Toronto, Ontario. He has three degrees (BA, MA & MBA), reads an unhealthy amount of history, works as a marketing professional by day and prowls the imaginary alleyways of the Elizabethan era in his off-hours. Much of his winter is spent hanging around hockey arenas and shouting at referees.

He is married, with a son, a dog, four cats and a turtle named Tortuga. THE JESUIT LETTER is his first novel of a planned series THE TYBURN FOLIOS.

Hi Bea,

Thieves Castle is actually still a work-in-progress! I'm shamefully behind but should have it finished up by the summer. It is currently at 62,000 words and climbing. Should top out at about 95,000 - 100,000 words (just slightly shorter than The Jesuit Letter). The plan is to try to sign with an agent in the Fall. If not, then it will be rolling out as a self-published work in 2018.

In the meanwhile, I also have a 10,000 word Tyburn novella up called Black Dog that you might enjoy.

Thanks!(less)

Generally I haven't run into writer's block.

I tend to run into time management, procrastination, distraction issues and the impact of my son's hockey season (which is a massive time suck that sees me at arenas for 10-15 hours per week for 6 months a year). I do run into plot issues that sometimes need sorting through in my head, but I haven't thankfully run into the mental stresses of any type of full-blown writers block at this point.(less)

Just a quick update:

You can now hear The Jesuit Letter, brilliantly narrated by James Young, in all its swashbuckling, Elizabethan, back-alley, ale-soaked glory, on #Audible, #Amazon & #Apple iTunes!

Yes, now it's on iTunes as well!

Damn. I'm kind of letting that sink in for a moment. I now have an audiobook on iTunes. Who would have thought?

Go have a listen!

The Jesuit Letter (Mystery & Thrillers)
3 chapters   —   updated May 13, 2015 06:37PM
Description: Summer, 1575. The innyards of London are closed due to plague, and the Earl of Worcester’s Men are on the road, touring through the market-towns of the midlands. Ex-soldier turned play-actor Christopher Tyburn finds himself entangled in a murderous and deadly conspiracy when he intercepts a coded letter from a hidden Jesuit priest in Warwickshire. Tyburn thought he had left bloodshed and violence behind him when he abandoned the war against the Spanish in Flanders but now, stalked by an unknown enemy, he must race to unmask the true nature of the conspiracy and hunt down the Jesuit to clear his name, or die a traitor’s death.

“This rough magic
I here abjure, and, when I have required
Some heavenly music, which even now I do,

This airy charm is for, I'll break my staff,
Bury it certain fathoms in the earth,
And deeper than did ever plummet sound
I'll drown my book.”
