P&P The Untold Stories: Elizabeth Hears from the New Mrs. Collins

What does Charlotte say about married life?

January 16th, 1812

When Elizabeth had said goodbye to the former Miss Lucas at the church door, it had been with a heavy heart. The previous years of unreserved friendship, of easy intimacy were over. The fact that one was now married and the other not might have created somewhat of a barrier in any case. But the manner of Charlotte’s marrying – whom she had accepted and why – was an obstacle Elizabeth knew could never be completely overcome. Hencef...

2023 Wrap Up and What’s Coming in 2024!

Happy New Year! Yes, I am well aware we’re 10 days into the new year, and I’m running a bit behind. December was a whirlwind of good and bad. I am blown over by the reviews on Catching Lizzy. Thank you to everyone who read and reviewed it. It was definitely a mood booster while I was ill over Christmas. Some virus decided it liked me, my husband, and my eldest daughter. They’re both over it, and the cough is still lingering with me. I do have my attention span back since that took a vacay while ...

P&P The Untold Stories: In Which Charlotte Collins Faces the Inquisition by Diana Birchall

Lady Catherine inspects the household of the new Mrs. Collins

January 13, 1811

Charlotte had now been married a month and was quite as satisfied with her situation as she had ever dared hope to be. If her husband was not the pleasantest of companions, there was only one of him, and any man, not vicious, might easily be managed by a clever woman. In the case of Mr. Collins, it was only needful for Charlotte to be willing to adapt her expressions to the flattering sort he plainly needed for his c...

P&P The Untold Stories: Darcy and Georgiana Attend a Party

Was anyone happy at all?

January 11, 1812

Darcy walked slowly while people hurried past him as they sought shelter from the sudden winter storm that had descended upon the busy streets of London. Icy pellets hit his face, which he tried to bury within the folds of the dark green scarf Georgiana had knitted for him for Christmas. He pulled his hat down further and wrapped his coat more tightly about him. He shivered, and the cold took hold of him down to his toes.

He reached up and fingered the ...

P&P The Untold Stories: Jane Calls on Caroline and Louisa

Jane Calls on Caroline and Louisa

January 10, 1812

Jane found herself sitting in the parlor at the Hurst’s home on Grosvenor Street waiting for Caroline Bingley and Louisa Hurst to appear. Perched on a velvet covered chair, she felt a little uncomfortable and out of place. The house was not large, but almost everything about it was pretentious, as if designed to impress visitors with the financial standing of its owner. Jane deemed the decoration of this particular room much too formal and stuf...

P&P:TUS A Ball to Forget, pt 2

Mr. Darcy recovers from Twelfth Night.

January 7, 1812

Late morning sun bled in through the window, forcing his eyes open. What the blazed had happened last night? He probably would not feel worse if he had been run over by a carriage.

Darcy blinked rheumy eyes, head throbbing, stomach protesting like a rioting mob in the streets. A mob would have been easier to quell. He pressed his belly and smacked his lips. Drinking so much had been a poor choice, even if it has been in the privacy of his s...

P&P:TUS A Ball to Forget, pt 1

Mr. Darcy contemplates the approach of Twelfth Night in his London townhouse.

January 5, 1812

Twelfth Night, it was nearly Twelfth Night. Blast and botheration—it was nearly Twelfth Night, and there was not a bloody thing to be done about it.

The afternoon sunlight tumbled through the windows, laying a neatly ordered path of light through his study, illuminating everything the way he best liked.  Unfortunately, even the well-arranged room could not soothe his tormented soul.  Darcy paced acro...
