A Month After Coming Out of The Closet...

(Once again, not thatcloset. This Closet.) I've been a writer for a month now. Well, technically I've been a writer for about 30 years, but I've officially been a self-published writer for a month. How has it been going? It's had it's ups and downs, for sure. I was all set to write a long, pessimistic post about the negative points and pitfalls and look for pity. This is the INSECURE

How Do You Write?

No, I'm actually asking: How - and where, and when - do you write? Everyone has their favourite setups. Some people like to monopolize space at their local Starbucks. I heard of one writer who had a special desk built so she could walk at a leisurely pace on a treadmill while typing (I actually like the sound of that). Some authors like to write in a home office with the lights dimmed and

Ten Books I Plan To Have In My Beach Bag This Summer

(Thanks to Broke and Bookish for the ongoing Top Ten Tuesdays blog-hop meme!) I don't see myself leisurely reading on a beach this summer (I have 2 small children) but if I DID have time to relax on a beach, of if I have time to read anything at all, this is what it will probably be: * * * The Guardian: A Trace Anderson Adventure by Andrew J Dolha I have repeatedly heard this referred

Pay it Forward: Just Buy Something

If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook you'll know I've been hawking my book like an old-timey carnival game barker. Kinda makes me wish I had some kind of carny scam to trick people into buying it (BUY THIS BOOK: IT CURES BALDNESS!) Of course, if you spend more than 30 seconds on Twitter, you will run into someone trying to sell you something. It's like a Moroccan marketplace, but instead

I Guess I Am a Writer...

So this happened. On May 6th, 2015 at about 10:30 PM EDT, I pushed the "Publish" button on Amazon (and Kobo!) and became, officially, a self-published author. It was a momentous occasion, one I've been anticipating for years, and had been actively anxious about for months. After a lifetime of scribbling stories in private, I was finally putting something out there for the world to see. It was

Confessions of a Writer Hiding in The Closet

No, no. Not "that" closet. This Closet. Thirty five years ago today, I was born in a small town in Newfoundland (it's an Island province off the east coast of Canada - look it up). For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be a writer. I can't remember exactly how old I was when I wrote my first story - probably 5 or 6 - and my babysitter had to find a dictionary to look up the spelling of

Z is for COVER REVEAL!!

So as you can see from my using a country and the last letter of a story's title for my last two days, I've run out of characters. I could probably use another character from my fantasy series, but I've milked that one enough, so instead I'm going to share something I've been meaning to show you all month... the cover of my upcoming debut novel, Ten Thousand Days! For those who missed it,

Characters You've Never Heard Of: YENRAH

Chakram, the once-glorious capital of the once-glorious kingdom of Sem, was always cold now. Across the Black Moor, a hundred leagues to the South, a great evil was growing in the desert wastes of the land known as Yenrah. For ten years, Paice had devoted his life to fighting this evil, to protecting his country, his king and his family, but even as Paice’s own loss struck a crippling blow to
