And Summer Ends... (#IWSG September)

I missed the August IWSG post (my second miss this year!) for a very good reason. No, not because I was on vacation, but because some idiot ran into our car. Again. Which, incidentally, was the main reason I missed that previous post, too. Like the last time, it was completely the other driver's fault and fortunately I was the only one in the car (no babies this time!) but for various reasons

Text-to-Speech Software is a Valuable Editing Tool

I don't think that anyone disagrees that having an editor is an integral part of your writing process. (Well, maybe some people do, but that's an argument for another day.) (Here's a great one for hire, in case you're looking.) But there are times when you will have to do some editing yourself. Maybe it's to prepare a piece before sending to an agent or publisher. Maybe you're so embarrassed

Amazon is Deleting My Reviews and I Think I Know Why

It was bound to happen eventually, I suppose. It's one of the trials all new authors face with Amazon. I was really excited a few weeks ago when I FINALLY started getting reviews for Hell Comes to Hogtown. It's been out for two months so I was getting nervous. While I had some comments from people saying "Yeah, it's great," no one had committed words to paper (well, bytes on a website) to

Ten Things Books Have Made Me Want To Do or Learn About After Reading Them

Have you ever read a book that made you go: "Huh, that's cool, I'd like to know more about that." Maybe it's skydiving, maybe it's an ancient language, maybe it's just walking through the gawddang wilderness for months like in Lord of the Rings. Books are supposed to whisk you away to other worlds, to drop you into the drama and action, so of course in this imaginary world you could picture

Self-Help Books and Why Dani Writes Them (GUEST POST by L.G. Keltner)

The hilarious L.G. Keltner has a new book out, Self-Help 101 or: How to Survive a Bombardment With Minimal Injury. I really enjoyed her last book, Self-Help 101 or: How I Learned to Take Over the World Through Tolerating My Family (you can read my review here) so I jumped at the chance to have her back today to tell us a little about the new volume. Take it away, LG! ~ | ~ Self-help books

I'm Actually Feeling Pretty Good (#IWSG)

My new book came out last week. I've been very busy, doing interviews and guest posts, as well as going through the holiday weekend and my regular full-time job. To be honest I haven't had time to get anxious about how the book is doing, though I feel like I should be. I do check my Amazon account every day to see how many copies I've sold. It's certainly not a quantity to write home about,

Hell Comes to Hogtown: The Soundtrack

For those who missed it, my new book Hell Comes to Hogtown was released last week to much fanfare. It's available now from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, iTunes, Smashwords and many others, so you should go immediately to your online retailer of choice and pick up a copy. Then come back here and listen to these songs while you read it. It will greatly improve your overall experience. I can't

The Day Before Hell Arrives

My new book comes out tomorrow. In our world of changing political landscapes, increasing cultural tensions, radicalized violence and rampant media hysterics, it's not even a blip on the radar. Even in my tiny pocket of the world, with my oldest starting school in a few months, my wife going back to work full-time soon and our planning of a family vacation halfway across the country, my

GUEST POST COVER REVEAL: Self-Help 101 or: How to Survive a Bombardment With Minimal Injury by L.G. Keltner

Today I'm helping the lovely L.G. Keltner reveal the cover of her new book, Self-Help 101 or: How to Survive a Bombardment With Minimal Injury. I just finished her previous book,Self-Help 101 or: How I Learned to Take Over the World Through Tolerating My Family (which she talked about right here back in December) and I enjoyed it quite a bit. It was a lot of fun and I'm really looking

Fingers Crossed for June (#IWSG)

The first Wednesday of every month is officiallyInsecure Writer’s Support Groupday. Writers post their thoughts on their blogs, talking about their doubts and the fears they have conquered. It's a chance for writers to commiserate and offer a word of encouragement to each other.Check out the group here. May was the first time I missed a IWSG post in a year. I would love to say it was
