Day 8 NaNoWriMo – Time Management as a Theme

Day 8 blog – but I was so tired last night I didn’t hit publish. So I’m doing it bright and early before my flight out of sin city! :]

The 20Books Vegas conference has been amazing. And exhausting. I’ve taken a small notebook worth of notes and it will take a few weeks to sift through all I’ve learned to prioritize my action items. Because what is the us of learning if we don’t act on and use what we’ve learned, right?

A common theme with every successful author or entrepreneur I’ve heard speak is about managing your time. We all have the same amount of hours in each day. The difference between success in your field and wallowing in mediocrity is how you spend those hours. Are you working at your craft or business efficiently? Are there time wasters in your day that you can cut out? (The joke at this conference was cutting out socializing and traveling – haha).

I was glad the conference was in a place that wasn’t close to the major attractions like the Vegas strip. I didn’t leave the hotel at all – so I was able to either focus on the conference sessions, writing, or socializing with new friends and collaborators. Since I don’t fly out until the day after the conference ends, I was able to get in a bunch of words (2100) on Thursday.

Got to meet my shuttle for the airport – next stop San Diego!

Keep writing and reading!!!

Day 7 NaNoWriMo- Being Creative for a Living!

583 words this morning!! Yay!

The 20BooksVegas sessions started earlier today but I still managed some good words in my Delta 3 novel! I had a sweet email from a friend whose daughter has read all 7 of my YA space opera books and is anxiously waiting for this next one!

Day 6 NaNoWriMo… not very many words today

First full day of the conference and I only got in 383 words this morning before the sessions started. But as I heard most of the day from different speakers and peers, it’s consistency and passion that matters most.

We will all have days that don’t go quite right or life happens and we can’t get our words in.

Today was one of those days. But the trade off was that I got to listen to a lot of amazing authors who are making a great living in the indie space. And I had many productive conversations with other writers attending the conference. So it was a winner of a day. And I knew ahead of time I wouldn’t get all my words done this week. I’ll just work harder next week when I get back to my routine.

Enjoy your day no matter if it gets derailed- you just might like how it turns out!

NaNoWriMo Day 4 – Words and Planning!

Stopped at 1466 words to make sure I left time to backup my computer. The rest of the day was spent packing and planning!

Packing for Vegas! Heading to the 20BooksVegas conference tomorrow morning! I’m pretty good at writing while traveling so I hope to get a lot of words in before touch down in Nevada!

During the conference I’m not so sure how much time I’ll get to write. With the amazing lineup of authors and entrepreneurs that will be there, I’ll probably feel like my brain is exploding by dinner time.

And planning! I went out and bought a brand new easel pad to start plotting Delta books 4 -6. Can’t wait to break out the colored markers!

Happy reading and writing!

Day 3 NaNoWriMo – quiet day!

Got my words in today, but even better is that I like the scene I wrote!! It started wandering yesterday so I had to get it back on track.

These are the days when it really helps to write every day. When I miss a few days of writing on a first draft, it might take awhile before I notice the story or characters not going the way I want.

I bought more easel paper so I can brainstorm books 4-6 after Vegas. I’m looking forward to it, so it motivates me to keep going and finish book 3.

Tomorrow promises to be a productive day- I need to get extra words done and pack for the Vegas trip!

Have fun writing wrimos!

Day 2 Boise Rocks the #nanowrimo

A few more words in before work and during lunchtime!

But look at this graph!! Boise is awesome!! On day 2 our area wrimos have very close to a million words!!!

This weekend I hope to get ahead on words since I’ll be heading to Vegas Monday morning. It’s pretty easy for me to write while traveling, but once I get there I’ll be very busy!

While picking up business cards at staples tonight I bought another easel paper pad so I can outline and mind map my next three books. This is my favorite part- the dreaming and creative design of my stories.

Create Every Day!!!

Day 1 NaNoWriMo!

Ahhh… November 1st. Working on two manuscripts at the same time. And trying to keep updates going on this blog! I think I’m a bit crazy, but I love the challenge!

I might be one of the NaNoWriMo rebels this year since I’m working on several things at the same time. My friend Cathy was a NaNoWriMo rebel one year when she wrote short stories for November!

So creativity, even within the structure of NaNoWriMo should be what’s in your heart to do. If you want to write 50,000 words of poetry- go for it!!

I’ll be counting my words that remain in Delta 3 and the words I write in Delta 4.
