Onyx Unleashed – Release Blitz – by Tanya Vought
ONYX UNLEASHED
by Tanya Vought
When good and evil collide, who will be left standing?
Eden Cross is lonely. If she didn’t have her beloved cat, Onyx, she’d have no one at all. Eden longs for companionship, but, being a prisoner, all she gets is foul-mouthed demons, and hatred from the one man she wants respect from the most.
Collier Brigham is son of the King of Demons. Bitter with hatred, like his father, he’s expected to be a force to be reckoned with. He never believed love would rear its ugly head in his favor. Especially not when the woman is the daughter of the man who is to blame for the deaths of his mother and brother.
She is a beautiful force of nature and he is misery personified. When secrets are revealed, can they see past the unthinkable and work together to right their wrongs?

EXCERPT
Collier exits the shower, grabs a towel off the small rack and smiles, assuming it’s Eden’s as well. Just as he’s about to dry himself off, he hears a noise behind him. He turns around to find Eden licking her lips at his body. She’s eye fucking him and it drives him insane.
“Eden, like what you see?” He grabs his girth in front of her, enjoying her eyes as he tantalizes her.
But this is not the time for this. He’s vowed to make himself a new man—to be the one she wants—the one to make her laugh and be carefree, like she is with Drew.
One thought of Drew and he turns his back on her and dries off. “Please give me a minute to myself. Leave the bathroom, now.”
He hates having seen the confusion all over Eden’s face. Anger is definitely there too.
“You know what, Collier? I’m tired of the bullshit and all you stupid, mercurial men. I’m so freaking tired of it. I stuck up for your sorry ass, but forget it. I’m done.” She slams the door, leaving him alone and confused. Why did she have to stick up for him?
What the hell just happened here?
He dries off the rest of his body with the purple towel, even though he has mostly air-dried. He runs his fingers through his hair, trying to restrain the crazy head of hair of his. He huffs and growls. He feels his skin start to crack… he’s angry. He was rude to Eden after thinking of Drew. He knows he needs to talk with her. He wraps his towel around his waist, since he left his clothes in the other room. He hopes Eden is waiting for him.
Slowly opening the door, Collier finds Eden reading on the bed. He knows she’s seen him but also knows he deserves her stubborn silent treatment. He notices that she’s brought food back, but, well, it’s not quite what he expected. On a white plate with red grapes and banana slices she’s formed the words: Eat Shit Asshole.
He laughs and grumbles. He takes a bite of his food and in the corner of his eye he notices Eden watching him.
“If you’d like a piece of this, you’re more than welcome to some, sweetheart.”
He enjoys watching her squirm on the bed, without making a peep. He also enjoys watching her huff before turning back to her book, which he knows she’s definitely not reading.

A few words of encouragement can stay with you for a lifetime. Robert and Brianna’s childhood friendship grew into respect for each other and their ideas. Robert gave her the confidence to stand up for herself. Brianna helped him see his artistic potential and encouraged him to travel for his inspiration. He found it in the letters she wrote.
After her mother abandoned her at sixteen and her stepfather beat her at eighteen, Brianna Carlson now struggles to care for her six-year-old half-sister, Chloe. The day before her twenty-first birthday, Brianna receives news that her stepfather will be released from prison. Half blind from a head injury and still limping from a once broken leg, she’s terrified he’ll come back to hurt Chloe this time. She decides to leave town.
Waiting for their five-year age gap to diminish, Robert Donovan purposely stayed away. While traveling for his family’s jewelry business, he designed The Garden Collection, his newest line of necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. Returning home, he discovers Brianna had lied in every letter she sent. She never received any of his. Before he can demand answers, she disappears without Chloe.
As Robert learns about Brianna’s life during his absence, he sets out to find her and convince her to trust him again. He hopes the innocent love of their youth is strong enough to heal her injured heart and fulfill his need for a home.

Brianna wanted to tell Robert about her bleak situation but held back. Why bring him down? What good would it do? He was leaving for an adventure tomorrow. Ignoring her swollen eye, she retrieved a small tatty ring box from her purse. She handed it to him.
He grinned. “Are you proposing?”
“Certainly not, I’m a mess. It’s a going-away present. Just promise to save it for the plane.”
“You’re not coming to dinner tomorrow?” he asked as he slipped it into his tuxedo pocket. When she shook her head, he held out a slightly larger sparkling red box. “Then Happy Birthday.”
She gaped as he set it in her cupped hands. The lovely box had a bright white bow on the top. The tag read To Anna from Robert.
He laughed. “Anna, it’s not a snake. It won’t bite.”
“Thank you,” she whispered as she carefully lifted the top. She caught her breath. “Oh my, it’s stunning but way too expensive. I can’t accept this.” She held out the box for him.
“Of course, you can,” he replied, taking the gold heart locket out of the box. Swirls of etched ivy covered the front and back. A heart-shaped emerald gleamed in the center. He placed the chain over her head and stood back to admire it. “It’ll match your one green eye,” he said with a grin.
Her hand trembled as she touched it. “It’s the nicest gift I’ve ever gotten.” It was actually the only gift. Born to alcoholic parents on January first had its drawbacks. They slept off the hangovers for the full day. “But it’s too much, Robert.”
“If you want to make it even, you can write to me at the villa.”
“I can do that.”
“I’ll expect a letter every few weeks that’s at least two pages long. You can fill me in on Lucy’s antics,” he said, reaching for her hand. “This is my big chance to prove myself. You understand, right?”
She nodded and held her other hand over her locket. “Thank you,” she whispered again.
Taking a step closer, he leaned down and kissed her. Her mind went numb, but her toes tingled. She didn’t want him to stop. He gently pulled her against him. She parted her lips letting him taste her. His tongue sent a wave of warmth throughout her body. She didn’t realize kissing was a pain reliever. Her cold body wanted to hide in the safety of his embrace.
“Robert. Please. Don’t leave me, too,” she silently begged.
He let her go and played with a long ringlet by her ear. “Oh, Anna, even with one eye, you’re still the prettiest girl I know. I’ll miss you,” he said, before leaving.
Standing alone in the middle of the room, she closed her eyes. A profound sadness settled over her heart. She wept.

Taylor Valentine, a senior at Western Michigan University, has had her life planned out since kindergarten. After her parents died while she was still in high school, she had perfected it to make them proud. Now with the help of her best friends, Joe and Eva, she focuses on graduation and a career with romance in the far distant future. However, when the visiting professor enters the lecture hall to a four-weekend Civil War seminar, her perfect plan hits a snag.
As a handsome history professor and former marine, Dr. Stuart Morgan has his own set of strict rules especially with infatuated students. He enjoys his boring yet pleasant life until he starts receiving death threats. With his unwanted bodyguard in tow, Stuart is unnerved by his reaction to Taylor. Their rigid rules discourage all but a flirtation.
As the death threats become evident, the FBI believes Taylor’s the culprit, hindering their budding romance. When Taylor inadvertently becomes the target, Joe and Stuart whisk her away to protect her. Meanwhile, Joe struggles with his feelings for Taylor. He’s loved her since grade school. He won’t let her go and stands in Stuart’s way. The men push her to choose between the lifelong love of her best friend and the true love of her new boyfriend.
With the threats from family and foe pulling them apart, Stuart wonders if they can sustain the stress. Trusting their love, he must somehow convince Taylor to break her rules and embrace a new plan.

“You win.”
In shock, Stuart stared through the crack. No! It was not supposed to go like this. Joe turned to her. He questioned her statement, too.
She continued. “I thought Stuart was my one. Maybe I’m wrong.”
No! You’re not wrong! I am the one! Every cell in his body wanted to rush into the room. He gripped the doorframe to stop himself. He didn’t want to hear anymore, but he couldn’t move. Joe gaped as well.
“Are you supposed to be my one, Joey? We’ve been through so much together. I’ve always thought of you as my best friend and brother. Our love is deep and strong. It’s good and pure. Nobody could ever break that. That’s why I’m wondering if you really are my one. You’ve heard Mom’s stories about the chemistry of love and what it’s supposed to be like. Is that us?”
Stuart couldn’t breathe. He and Taylor had chemistry. She didn’t feel it, too?
“Maybe that is us. I’ve loved you my whole life,” Joe replied.
Stuart felt a knife slowly breach his ribs and pierce his heart as Taylor leaned over and kissed Joe. It wasn’t a peck either. The pain froze him as if ice encased his body. Still, he couldn’t turn away.

With the McMand job behind them, Donny is taking a much needed vacation at one of Parker’s safe houses. After encountering a woman in trouble and trying to help her, he’s injured in the struggle. He’s forced to call for Parker and the rest of the team’s help.
Although the island is normally a peaceful tourist destination, they soon discover that it is run by a drug lord. He’ll stop at nothing, trying to get back what is his – the woman Donny rescued. She fled, afraid for her life, and Donny is determined to get her off the island safely. Falling in love with her only complicates matters more.
They desperately need to get to safety, but Parker just as desperately wants to keep his Mexico retreat in the clear. The sudden appearance of his sister and an old hacker friend they discover in the mix quickly turns this into their most dangerous job yet.

My phone chimed in that I had a text message. Hearing the Gilligan’s Island theme song, I knew it was Donny. I learned never to leave my phone lying around unattended. I didn’t want to see what he’d do to my other contacts, not that I had that many.
Where are you guys?
At my parents’.
They have wireless?
Yes.
Give me their home number and turn on the TV.
I sent the number to him while Parker and Kevin nagged me, wondering what was up. “I don’t know yet. Where’s your phone?” I asked Parker.
“Guess I forgot it at home.”
“He’s gonna tan your—” Before I could even say “ass” my parents’ TV screen flickered to life with Donny’s face.
“Who all is there, Hales? Shit…hang on a second.” My phone rang as he continued to speak. “I can’t hear or see you.”
Parker answered the phone. “What’s going on?”
Everyone could hear him over the television. “Put the phone up on the TV, camera out. I’ll hear you well enough.”
Kevin escorted our parents out the patio door. I was grateful. They still weren’t quite up to speed on what Parker and Kevin did. The less information they had, the better off they were. They’d just experienced their TV set being hacked into via their internet; that was probably enough for one day.
Parker balanced the phone on a framed family photo and stepped back. “What gives? Why use Maryann and hack into their system? Talking on the phone isn’t good enough for filling me in on your vacation?”
“Where’s Kevin?” Donny asked.
“Right here.” He was walking into the room as Donny asked for him.
“My mind may be a little burned out on tropical drinks right now, but I’m pretty sure some sort of shit is hitting the fan.”
“You’re on vacation. What the hell are you doing?” Parker asked.
“I was minding my own business.” He paused and took a long draw of a beer.
“And…” Parker said in frustration.
Stepping closer to the screen, I asked, “Are you okay?” I had to admit I thought I knew him pretty well for the short time we’d been working together. Something was wrong. I was sure it wasn’t lost on Parker, but coddling through trauma wasn’t their strong point.
Donny focused on me. “I have a doc on the way.”
“For what?” Parker bellowed.
As Donny stepped back, we could see a woman on the couch behind him with her arm over her eyes.
Kevin laughed out loud, hard. “What’d you do? Pick up a beach goddess and break her?”
“Shut the fuck up, Kev.” Donny was far enough back now that we could see his chest. He removed a washcloth he had pressed low against his ribs and revealed a long wound that could only be from a knife.
“What happened?” I shrieked.
There was a knocking on the door behind him. “That’s Doc. I gotta go. I called Seth before I called you. He’s getting the plane ready. Get your asses out here.” He signed off without another word.

When Hailey stumbles upon a backpack full of money on her nightly jog, she is forced to flee the security of her secret identity. Although the sudden appearance of a man that had been flirting with her earlier seems odd, Hailey accepts Parker’s help in getting the heavy bag home. Within moments of arriving, they escape under gunfire. The men it was intended for want it back, and Hailey has now made herself a target. Safe in a motel room, the two of them discover the truth: although their meeting was an accident, Parker had been involved in the bag’s drop and she had been his assignment all along. Now, getting Hailey away safely is Parker’s new mission. Together they struggle to put together the pieces of Hailey’s past and discover that they have more in common than they thought.

“Exactly what is the plan here?” I asked after another long sip of beer.
“I’m not exactly sure now. The money is definitely not going to do what it was supposed to, and you have no business being involved in all of this.”
“Pardon me, but that’s your fault.”
“Let’s not do this again, okay? Are you forgetting I chose you over the money?”
My eyes lowered. “No. I’m really not sure of the etiquette on how many times I’m supposed to thank you for that.”
“Let’s drop it. What’s done is done. I need to figure out what to do from here. How to get back on track and get you somewhere safe.” I walked over to the small refrigerator for another beer. “Parker? Is there a chance I can make a phone call?”
“That depends. You going to try to signal for help?”
“No. I…I think I need to let my mom know I’m okay. She normally calls me on Saturdays for an update. I’m worried she’ll think something is wrong if I don’t call soon.”
“We’ll go get you your makeup or whatever you want, and I’ll get a new throwaway phone. You can call her from that. No giving away anything about our location.”
I was getting tired of all this cloak-and-dagger shit. It was wearing on my last nerve. “Who exactly is following you? What was the money for, Parker? Or Gavin. Whatever your name is! This is no longer funny! You think they’d tap my mother’s phone?” I rushed his chair and landed both hands hard on his chest. He grasped my wrists and held them tight as he stood.
“Whoa! Why would you think someone would want you back so bad as to post someone on your mother?”
I shook my arms, trying to get free. “Let me go.”
“You going to be civil?”
“Yes. Please let me go.”
Too nervous now to return to the chair, I stood and peered out of the crack in the curtain. “I need to know something and I need the truth.” I faced him, needing to look into his eyes. The eyes always give it away.
“Fire away.” He motioned that I should carry on with a wave of his hand.
“I think I tripped on this money by accident, but I need to know if I was set up.”
“You? Set up? Why do you think you were set up? How could I have possibly pulled that off?”
“Things just don’t add up. We flee under gunfire…you save me but don’t take the money…”
“Back up. What do you know that you think someone would pay a million bucks for?”
“More like kill me for it.”

The House on Sunset by Lindsay Fischer

The House on Sunset
By- Lindsay Fischer
Genre- Memoir/Women’s Fiction
Lindsay Fischer was once a high school English teacher with dreams stretching far outside the classroom. When her boyfriend of a year-and-a-half cheated on her, Lindsay found herself alone, looking online for a replacement. His name was Mike.
That’s where the nightmare started.
The House on Sunset is a memoir, a collection of reminiscences, scattering the ashes of two broken homes and putting them to rest. Each chapter offers a different glimpse inside the cycle of intimate partner violence, where honeymoon phases and traumas coexist.
Everyone could fall victim to abusers. This book bravely displays the reasons a quirky, twenty-something teacher would, and did.

Author Interview
Where do you dream of traveling to and why?
My maiden name is Capobianco, so I dream to meet my Italian family in Benevento, Italy. My grandparents were very insistent on keeping their culture, so we always spent Sunday afternoons at their house for dinner, eating pasta or some kind of dolled up poultry dish. I’ve always wanted to see Italy, but now that my grandparents have passed away, it’s certainly moved closer to the top of my bucket list.
What do you think makes a good story?
The author’s voice is something I think most readers appreciate but don’t realize how important it is. If I can read an author telling the story with their authentic voice, there’s nothing I love more than that. It’s brave to put your soul on the page. For me, storytelling (even in fiction) has an element of truth, of real-life and the struggles we face. If I can latch onto the truth behind the plot, I’m hooked.
What book are you reading now?
I just finished The Invention of Wings by Susan Monk Kidd and Give Me Your Answer True by Suanne Laqueur. Both are must reads and I’m listening to Nice Girls Don’t Get Rich by Lois Frankel right now. I like to mix it up between fiction and non, almost always moving back and forth between the two.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A butterfly.
In truth, I was ambitious. My goal has always been to make other peoples’ lives better, but I wasn’t sure how I wanted to do that. I struggled to decide this even up through college. My junior year I changed my major to secondary education, English and added a fifth year to my stay. Teaching was an amazing experience I won’t ever forget.
What are your favorite TV shows?
I’m just going to list them here, because there’s so many I love:
True Detective (season 1 impressed me far more than season 2), Game of Thrones, Orange is the New Black, House of Cards, So You Think You Can Dance, and LOST.
My husband and I are Netflix junkies and we have a problem binge watching series as soon as they come out. There are so many that we watch to hold us over between seasons of our favorites. It’s really becoming quite a problem (a time suck).
What are you passionate about these days?
My advocacy work in domestic violence. It’s why I wrote The House on Sunset to begin with. Part of the reason I have a day job (as a copywriter) is so that I can afford to take time off and help non-profits with their fundraising efforts nationwide. Without the non-profit who offered me free individual therapy, I wouldn’t be the person I am today.
I speak about my experience whenever possible and host a weekly Twitter chat (#domesticviolencechat, Mondays at 9pm EST) to bring survivors together and share strength and inspiration.
As an abuse survivor, I know how easy it is to feel alienated. I love connecting with other people who understand what I’ve been through. Now that I’ve graduated from trauma therapy, it’s really important for me to give others hope and lead by example. If I can do this, so can any one of them.
What do you do to unwind and relax?
My husband indulges me occasionally and we’ll head out to the open-air theater in St. Louis (The Muny) for musicals on the weekends. I also love craft beer, so it’s pretty common for us to find a brewfest close to home. As I mentioned previously, we have a Netflix problem.
Spending time with our three fur-babies, Huckleberry (chihuahua), Frank (English bulldog), Rocko (American bulldog) also helps me see the simplicity and happiness in life. I’m really fortunate to have the support I do from my husband. That man can make me snort out giggles with the raise of an eyebrow.
If you could apologize to someone in your past, who would it be?
My younger self. I’ve always been my own worst critic, but I never realized how damaging perfectionism truly was until I tried to rebuild my life after abuse. It took a lot of time for me to figure out what my hangups were and how to forgive myself for being imperfect.
That’s not to say I haven’t wronged anyone else, but I think it’s important to realize that our own self-worth plays heavily into how we treat others. There are very few instances in my life when I’ve made my opinion known and felt badly about it, but every single time I feel an apology is necessary ultimately came in childhood.

Excerpt
He turned to her, grasping her shirt at the collar and renting it in half. She gave a shriek and stared at him, her eyes wide, a mixture of fear and arousal in her scent.
“Wh-what are you doing?” she asked, her words tumbling out one on top of the other.
He sliced her bra with a fang and hauled her to her feet.
She covered her breasts with one forearm, her face flushed, her chest heaving. “What are you doing?” she repeated, her voice no more than a whisper now.
He unbuttoned her shorts. “Punishing you,” he said, his voice raspy from the damage in his throat. He expected her to fight when he yanked off her shorts and panties, but she stood still, looking shocked.
“I really hurt you, didn’t I?” she whispered.
He didn’t answer, but when he took off his belt, she began to back quickly away, throwing up her bubble of protection, even as she babbled, “Okay, just calm down.”
“It’s for your wrists,” he explained. “Remove your bubble and hold them out for me.”
She stood still, staring at him with her wide eyes. Her gaze traveled to his cheekbone, where the first ball of light had struck. He probably had an angry mark by now, perhaps even blisters.
The bubble flickered and dissolved.
“Thank you. Now hold out your wrists.”
She looked at him uncertainly.
He waited for her surrender, lifting only an eyebrow to convince her.
She drew a breath and held out her hands, dropping her eyes submissively.
His cock twitched.
He tugged her to the doorway of her bedroom where he tossed the end of his belt over the top of the door, pulling on it until she lifted up on her toes, then shutting the door to trap the belt so she could not pull her wrists down.
“You are on clothing restriction until you can show a little respect,” he informed her.
She twisted around, hanging her weight on the belt in an attempt to pull it free.
“Take it easy there or you’ll hurt yourself,” he said.

(The Untold Stories of Neverland, Book 1)FANTASY/FAIRYTALE
AGE 15+ DUE TO MILD LANGUAGE AND VIOLENCE

Neverland has always been their sanctuary—until now.
Magic is dying in Neverland. Only one pixie is brave enough to search the human world for someone to believe. Tink finds a desolate boy flying in the night, peering in windows, searching for the life he once knew. But can she convince him to abandon his quest and save Neverland?
Discover the untold story of the boy destined to become Peter Pan.

THE TINY PIXIE flew over the dark rooftops to the crumbling tower in the center of the town. Zipping to the top, she chose her usual spot and greeted the gargoyle perched on the edge of the roof. Taking one final look to make sure she had the best view, she plopped down on the tip of the monster’s nose and settled in to watch the boy fly from house to house.
Back and forth, from one window to the next he flew, staying at each only long enough to peer through the panes of glass…searching…
At least he was taking his task seriously, she decided, watching him raise up on his toes in an effort to gain a better look inside one darkened, upstairs room. Some guardians were lazy, but this one was not, which was just as well, she noted, as the small, shadowy figure of a child exited through the window and joined him. A few seconds later, the two flew off into the night sky. The children of humans could be a handful—the ghosts of them even more so, especially when they realized they were no longer among the living. It only made sense to appoint another child to deal with their sorrow and accompany their spirits to the other side.
The source of her attention currently gone, the pixie idly kicked into the open air. Small bits of dust sprinkled each time her feet touched the open mouth of the monster she’d been making a seat of. She glanced down, noticing his bottom teeth now sparkled like gold in the moonlight, giving him an even more ferocious look.
The poor thing looked dreadful, with long curling teeth and bulging eyes—nothing at all like her own pretty, golden self. She gave him a bright smile. Likely, that was the only kindness ever given the monster forever stuck up here on the edge of this roof, so she reached down and gave his hard cheek an affectionate pat before turning her attention back to the sprawling town below. After all, she hadn’t come to save this monster. She’d come for the boy and soon he would need her—but not nearly as much as she needed him.

AGE 15+ DUE TO MILD LANGUAGE AND VIOLENCE

Archie Jameson sat in the dark corners of the print shop, dreaming of adventure.
Today, it found him.
Caught in a chilly October storm, he ducked into a tavern, hoping to escape the rain. What he found, was a room teeming with pirates. Discover the untold story of the man who became Captain Hook.

AN ETERNITY PASSED before Big Ben tolled five bells. They were heavenly peals to Archibald Jameson, who began to wonder if time had somehow gotten stuck or if the gigantic clock across the square was broken. Stretching out his long legs, he stood up from the desk and scooted around the corner, taking care not to bump the towering mountain of paper at the edge. Naturally, it was the largest stack in the entire room—the work that he had yet to finish. If he was even a fraction as meticulous a man as his father—the very man who left him the shop—he would have stayed, locked the front door, and remained into the wee hours to finish the work, however long it should take.
But he was not his father, and he had no intention of pretending to be so. While he was very good at running the print shop, it wasn’t something he enjoyed. It was only what he must do to ensure his survival. Remaining any longer than necessary just wasn’t going to happen as far as Archie was concerned. His inheritance should have been a blessing since he was the youngest of four sons. Without the steady work the shop provided, he might as well have lived out on the street, begging for what scraps could be found. To him, the feel of the paper and smell of ink felt like a prison where he was trapped day in and out. His only release came in daydreams. As he pondered another life or another world, the work piled up before him. He spent hours upon hours each day, dreaming of adventure, of places and people that always made those in his life seem dull in comparison. Those daydreams made his life bearable.
But even the daydreams wouldn’t hold him there once Big Ben chimed its fifth peal. He never stayed a second longer than required.
He blew out lamps and turned over the sign in the window, then pulled on his frayed, black frock. He took one last glance around, then slapped on his hat and stepped outside. Chilly air greeted him as he pulled the door shut, listening to the muted sounds of the doorbell. He turned the key in the lock and jiggled the knob.
Odd, he thought. The tinkling sounds he heard earlier sounded nothing at all like the brass bell on the frame of that door. Odd, indeed. Perhaps it was the remnants of his latest daydream, for the door had never sounded that way before. Still pondering the bell, he turned and rammed directly into a young boy, who let out an audible oof, as he landed on the side of the street.
“I do beg your pardon,” Archie said, offering both his apologies and his hand to help the boy up. The lad flashed a smile, showing a unique set of small, pearly white teeth, before he took Archie’s proffered hand and replied, “Quite alright.” Without waiting for Archie to say anything more, the boy took off, disappearing around the bend.
Hunching over against the cold wind that sent leaves dancing about his legs, Archie shoved his hands deep into his pockets, and made his way down the bricked street, no longer in the rush he was in moments before.
“Mary, I don’t see how we can afford to keep her.” The booming voice was startling. Archie glanced up at a window, which was open in spite of the chill. “Let’s see, two pounds nineteen…”
“George, dear…”
“Now, Mary, hold on a moment. I have the tally right here. Do you think we might try it for half a year on say, five five three? Only half the year, mind you. Oh, drat, I forgot to figure in colic.”
The voice of the man and his wife argued back and forth as Archibald stood, rooted in place, wondering at their strange conversation. As this was his normal route home, he walked by No. 27 every evening. He half-hoped this financial dispute might possibly involve their dog. If it did, he would be more than willing to step up and offer to solve their financial dilemma. He lived alone and the thought of the trim Newfoundland he had seen carrying in bottles of milk from the front steps bolstered his spirits.
The talk of colic, however, kept him from knocking on the front door.
“Shall we say one pound? Yes, that is what I’ll put down. But what of mumps? I’ve heard that can be quite taxing. I daresay that should be twenty shillings there. Don’t give me that look, Mary.”
It was at this point a sharp cry of an infant pierced their conversation and Archibald was quite certain that Nana the Newfoundland was most assuredly not the topic of money, colic, mumps, and their current distraught state. He shook his head, wondering about the sanity of the Darlings in No. 27 as the silhouette of a woman he presumed to be Mary shut the window and the voices muted.
Poor Nana, Archibald thought, to be stuck with people such as that.
He didn’t even want to think about the child whose fate rested on the odds of her contracting whooping-cough and so he openly wished the inhabitants of No. 27 would not be so lucky as to have any additional offspring. He voiced exactly that, and in that same instant, heard that funny peal of bells again. This time it sounded suspiciously like laughter.
He spun around, searching for the source, and saw only a crone of an old woman who stepped out of No. 31. She heard his wish and obviously didn’t agree with his rather bold assessment. Archie was fairly sure she hadn’t laughed a day since she had been born, and moreover, he was absolutely certain that glorious day of her arrival had been at least a century earlier.
“Well,” she puffed up, looking much like a wrinkled, ancient bullfrog before she croaked, “I never!”
“Yes, madam. I should hope for precisely never as it seems the most promising period of time,” he smiled and bent, giving her an elaborately low bow to thank her for her agreement. “For to wish them more mouths to feed, when one seems to be their undoing, would be bad form, indeed.”
The old woman gaped at him, mouth working like a fish out of water. Then, she clamped it shut in a fierce scowl, and proceeded to slam the door with as much vigor as her frail limbs could muster.
Archibald smiled to himself, silently touching the brim of his hat in mock farewell before he spun, leaving the occupants of both No. 27 and No. 31 to their own devices and ignorance. He continued his stroll down the street in much better spirits, knowing that he bested the old woman and possibly even the Darlings without their even knowing it, though he was certain his sentiments would most certainly be relayed by their overly observant neighbor.
Ah, well. They should have known better than to trifle with something such as a child. A small victory, certainly, but victory nonetheless if it caused them to think of someone other than themselves.
The breeze picked up and proceeded to burst insistent, frigid puffs that threatened to dislodge his hat. He clamped one hand on top, squishing it down around his lean face as he resolutely lengthened his stride and marched on, determined to make it home before the storm set in.
He’d almost made it to the corner, to the place where he normally made the left on N. Westburl, and then a right onto 43rd, followed by a various assortment of other long deviations that would get him safely home, when a large crack of thunder shook the air. He decided that just this once he might consider taking the most direct route, albeit dangerous, foreboding, and possibly life-threatening. He stopped right on the bend of the street, uncertain for a fleeting moment, until the next jolting crack of thunder made up his mind for him. He headed straight along Market Street, which followed the length of the Thames River, hoping that the seedy individuals who lurked around the pier were as mindful of the storm as he, and would not cause him trouble on this particular evening, for even though he was quick-witted and could talk himself out of most troubles, sailors tended to be a harder breed of people. They were a sharp and cunning lot, and Archie did not know if he could outsmart anyone else that day, and didn’t wish to press his luck.
He made it past the pier, hesitating just long enough to glance at the small boats tied to the dock. There were obviously people about, and so far he had been lucky enough not to encounter any of them.
But one final ground-shaking crack and the tinkling sound of bells changed it all. The clouds overhead clashed and he ran for the shelter of a nearby tavern, barely escaping the torrent of rain.
Archie had never been in The Captain’s Keg before. He stopped just inside the door and let his eyes adjust to the dark, smoke-filled room. He realized that not only had he run into the very people he wished to avoid, but that he also had a new problem.
These men weren’t just sailors.
He was ready to run back out and take his chances of drowning in the street, when he heard the same tinkling of bells from earlier. This time, it sounded like mocking laughter.
Well. He might very well be losing his mind, but a coward he was not.
He straightened to his full height—all six feet and four inches of it—and removed his crumpled hat with a flourish, tucking it under his arm. He walked proudly down the three steps that led into the heart of the tavern—to a bar, teeming with pirates.

No Magic Moment by Angel Payne and Victoria Blue
Abra cadabra…
My name is Margaux Asher–and I’m in love.
Crazy, right? Me, the girl who grew up in the lap of luxury and the shadow of cynicism, is now head-over-heels for an apple farmer’s son who rocks my world and steals my breath. He’s seen the woman beneath the princess, and loves me–for me. Trouble is…he wants all of me. But how can I commit that to him if I don’t know what “me” is?
There are pieces missing–and not just mine. Until Michael opens up and shares all of himself, we’re a great opening explosion, but not a lasting magic tale.
Don’t look at the man behind the curtain…
My name is Michael Pearson–and I’m in love.
Margaux is the fire of my dreams, the fulfillment of my fantasies, and the woman who’s asked the impossible. When your past has been hell, how is it possible to walk through it again? But fighting it isn’t an option–especially when the ghosts rise up and battle back.
Especially when fate issues an ultimatum: battle back, or lose her forever.
Can I do it? Is love enough to change a person’s soul, or will our magic become a forgotten moment for us both?

A bit about me…
I’ve been hooked on books since I was a kid but it got worse in my twenties, when I discovered romances–the hotter, the better. Growing up in Southern California, with lots of surfer manliness surrounded me, was certainly a good boost for reading about delicious alpha guys and the women who adore them. When I learned I had a knack for telling these stories too, I guess you could say I was doomed–though my path toward romance novelist took a few detours via a concert-reviewing gig for my college newspaper (free show tickets…backstage passes…that was a no-brainer), artist interviews for a Beverly Hills dance music mag, personal assistant work for a record producer, dance club disc jockey, and a lot of fun in the hospitality industry.
These days, I still live in California, and have found an amazing alpha guy of my own who was brave enough to marry me. We live on a street that looks like Brigadoon, with our beautiful daughter. I have the best life ever, and never forget to thank the Big Guy Upstairs for it, either.

After eighteen-year-old Carrie Jacobson discovers she was a witch in a previous life, she seeks to reawaken that part of her soul. With the help of an eccentric enchantress and a boy who is more than he seems, Carrie succeeds and is spellbound by the memories of her life in Europe during the 1600s as a powerful witch named Isadora. Carrie reverts to her bewitching, more volatile form and sets out to break a curse she cast long ago on her coven.
Carrie’s boyfriend Tree cannot help feeling uneasy about the changes he sees in the woman he loves. When Carrie’s past clashes with the present and dark magic intoxicates her once again, Tree must take drastic matters into his own hands and attempt to save Carrie from herself.
With Tree’s help, will Carrie be able to resist the allure of her new powers? Or will she plunge into the deep end and give into them?
Note to readers
Tangled Roots can be read as a standalone novel. I wrote it for the fans of the Beyond the Eyes trilogy because a lot of them are fond of Carrie and Tree, who are the two main characters in this tale. Besides, their story adds to the trilogy, where it’ll take you deeper into the rabbit hole.
Enjoy!

His hands explore familiar territory; as one cups my left breast, massaging it, and tugging lightly on the nipple, the right hand is busy kneading my sex and running his hand back and forth through my folds.
I hear him whisper in my ear, “It’s time we make that baby you’ve wanted, so forget about that pill tonight.”
I don’t bother to go to the bathroom for my birth control. I just enjoy the pleasure of my husband. He gently leads me to the bed. “Can you get on your hands and knees, Baby?”
“Oh yes, anything you want sweetheart.”

But after a year of writing, she is now a published author of TWO fantasy/paranormal stories and is hard at work on yet another that she hopes will be loved as well.
Anne Conley has written her entire life and has the boxes of angst-filled journals and poetry to prove it. She’s been writing for public consumption for the last four years. In Pierce Securities, she gives us Ryan, Evan, Miriam, Zack, Quinten, and Simon. She lives in rural East Texas with her husband and children in her own private oasis, where she prides herself in her complete lack of social skills, choosing instead to live with the people inside her head.
For Kendra Hale, who has lived in Canada, the USA and on the European Continent, Great Britain, or the UK, will always be home. Cherime MacFarlane: Born in New Orleans, I am proud to call myself an Alaskan. I have lived here for 38 years, I have seen -40 degrees, hauled water, made bear bacon and still live in a cabin. I have used a fishwheel to catch salmon coming up the Copper River. I have cut firewood on shares and worked as a cocktail waitress during pipeline days in a small lodge on the Richardson Highway. I was my second husband’s chief mechanic’s helper and roadie.
My second husband, a Scot from Glasgow, was the love of my life. When I write Scots dialect, I personally experienced hearing it from my in-laws. When my husband got on the phone to Scotland, after 5 seconds I could barely understand a word.
We moved to Wasilla to get warm. It barely drops past -25 degrees here in the winter. I became a paralegal and worked for over 26 years for the same firm. Thousands of documents I have written have been before various judges all over the state.
Alaska is my home. I never thought I would love it so much I’d never want to leave. The beauty of Alaska is a draw I cannot resist. I love the people and the history. I have been captured by a place I came to under duress. Life does play some interesting tricks on one. I lost my first husband to alcohol. My second husband, the love of my life, died as a result of disease. We were not apart more than 24 hours for 20 plus years. I never wanted to be anywhere but with him. He was a man to run the river with and was my biggest fan.
Susan Griscom writes paranormal and contemporary romance. She’s hooked on gritty romances and is a huge fan of superheroes and bad boys confronted with extraordinary forces of nature, powers, and abilities beyond the norm mixed with steamy romance, of course.
She loves those days when she gets to sit around in her sweat pants, doing nothing but writing emotionally charged stories about love and violence and drinking coffee.
She lives in Northern California with her romantic husband and together they have five great superhero kids and eight mini-superhero grand kids, so far.
Marissa Storm: This Author has a few other published books in circulation today:
Storm Warnings, a fiction love story adventure
And What Happens to the Children, a book about the price the children pay when the parents split their lives in half.
I now write under a Pen name for personal reasons.
I love to meet with fans and will be making personal appearances in the near future. From NC, enjoys family and friends and the love of God as well as the blessings He brings.

Meet the Characters in Hot-Blooded Lust
Kaitlyn Rivers
FBI Agent, Kaitlyn Rivers loves her job with the Violent Crimes and Major Thefts Task Force. For years she’s worked with Joel and flirted her way into his heart. They are currently involved in a secret relationship, though most of the office knows or will soon find out. Kaitlyn has a record for crashing bureau cars, is a workaholic, and knows how to keep a secret. Other nicknames: Kai.
Joel Connor
Mildly impatient, Joel is the supervisory agent with the Violent Crimes and Major Thefts task force. Recently divorced, he has three daughters that know how to keep him busy. For years he’s been interested in Kaitlyn but had intended to keep it professional because he’s her boss. He’s got a fascination with erotic spanking and disciplining Kaitlyn to keep her in line.
Franklin Noble
FBI Agent Franklin Noble works for the Paranormal, Occult, and Ritualistic Crimes Division. Known for being a stud, Franklin likes his job but also likes the taste of women, sampling a new lady every night. Suave, sophisticated, and successful, Franklin has it all. It’s no wonder the girls all flock to him. Plus he could be an underwear model, if his FBI career didn’t get in the way.
Emily Carter
FBI Agent Emily Carter works for the Paranormal, Occult, and Ritualistic Crimes Division. With fourteen sisters and no brothers, Emily was brought up Catholic. Known for her looks, men flock to her wanting to buy her drinks, take her home, but never meet their parents. She struggles with dating and finding the perfect boyfriend that cares for her. Emily gets along well with her FBI partner, Franklin, though she knows he’s a stud and is careful not to mix business and pleasure.

“Anytime you want to climb on that pole again, Kai, I’m game.” Joel grinned. Wiping that smile off his face seemed near impossible. He’d been teasing me about it since the moment I climbed on top of the bar and danced.
“You’re never going to let me live it down, are you?” I actually didn’t mind, not that I’d tell Joel. My cheeks burned remembering that night. Although I was just doing my job, I knew how turned on it made him. If it weren’t for the fact we were in a bar on duty, I’d have given him a lap dance. Joel’s tongue would have probably hung out of his mouth. Being an FBI Agent was tough work, most of the time. The few moments where I could have some fun and let loose, why shouldn’t I?
Joel’s lips trailed a soft path of kisses across my jaw. I curled beneath the sheets of his mattress. “Joel, we can’t.” Though I wanted to, I wasn’t quite comfortable with it. The reason had nothing to do with him being my boss. We were over that. “Your kids are in the next room and the walls are thin.”
“They’re asleep.”
I laughed. “Yeah, for now. You’re loud. There is no way it won’t wake them up. The neighbors at my place give me slack when I run into them getting the mail.”
Joel whined and reached for my hip, pulling me against him. “Then why did you insist on sneaking over? You’re such a tease.”
“I am not!” I playfully shoved his chest. I tried my best to keep my voice down to a minimum. It’s not that I didn’t like his kids, I just thought it was too early for us to be doing weekends together. Which is why I opted to sneak over after they were in bed. I didn’t think ahead to the fact that we’d have to keep our voices down and that Joel was a loud moaner during sex. Not that I was particularly quiet, but he had the tendency to make sure everyone could hear us.
“Want to play a game?” he asked. His thumb stroked my hip, inching my shirt as the pads of his fingers grazed bare skin.
“Like Monopoly?” I wasn’t in the mood for board games.
Joel leaned his head forward, chuckling softly. He reached for me, brushing his lips against mine. I dragged my fingers into his dark, thick hair. “I had something more adult in mind.”
“Oh?” My hands paused their ministrations, trying to image what Joel would have thought up. He struck me more as a strip poker kind of guy, but we were already half-naked. Where was the fun in that? Joel climbed out of bed and headed for his closet. I whimpered in protest. “Where are you going? I’m right here.”
“I know a game that will be fun for both of us.” He brought one of his work ties out from the closet.
“If you’re planning on tying me to the bed, you know we have handcuffs for that.”
“No need. Unless of course you’re naughty. Close your eyes,” he said, and I did so, feeling the tie cover my eyes as he secured it at the back of my head. I was blindfolded. This was new for us.
My heart skipped a beat. I trusted Joel, but it still made me nervous. “What do you plan on doing?” I asked.
“Kai, you complained that I’m loud when we have sex. I’m going to make sure that you’re the one making all the noises. Better keep your voice down, I’m not sure I locked the bedroom door.”

Six Questions with the Author
What are you currently working on?
I just finished writing the first book in the series Dystopian Reign. The first book is titled, The Victorian Shift. I started the second book late this afternoon and it’s titled The Western Movement. It’s an interesting blend of historical mixed with dystopian (and of course romance) that follows a twenty-five year old young woman that escapes prison when the facility is under attack.
Tell us a little about your release, Hot-Blooded Lust.
Hot-Blooded Lust is the third installment in the Federal Agent Chronicles. Just like the first book in the series, Hot-Blooded Lust follows the life of Agent Kaitlyn Rivers as they investigate the murder of a fortune-teller, who happens to also be someone Joel knows.
Any more Federal Agent Chronicle stories in the works?
Yes, Fire Licked is scheduled for release in November from Blushing Books. That novel is about a sexy fireman and follows FBI Agent Leslie Hunter.
How do you write so fast?
Good question! I’m very prolific and also task-focused. This is my full-time job, so I treat it as such, spending at least eight hours a day in front of the computer writing (or at least attempting to). I concentrate heavily on meeting a word count daily when I write.
You always have fun swag. What’s your favorite piece that you’ve made?
I love making mini book charms as necklaces and also book boxes that feature my book cover. The book boxes are great for storing goodies when I have a book event. The necklaces (and also bracelets) tend to be a huge hit at events. Everyone always loves them and they’re all handmade. I’m always sharing pictures of the goodies on Facebook.
Do you plan on writing any more YA books under your other name, Ruth Silver?
Yes. I recently finished the prequel to Aberrant. It is titled, Cabal. I’m waiting to find out the release date for that young adult novella. I also am (still) working on the sequel to Elfinland (Orenda Book 2). It’s half-written at 21k words. I just need to sit down and finish that novel as well.

“Hey sexy.” I hear Kaitlyn’s voice and my eyes widen glancing up, as the dancers are once again on the bar.
“Kai?” I can’t stop myself from calling her by name. I’ve always seen the dark-haired agent in a pants suit, one rare occasion a skirt. This is something else entirely.
Kevin removes his drink from the bar. “You know the dancer?”
Kaitlyn is up there wearing nothing more than a red g-string bikini. Her brunette locks cascade down her back and her makeup looks like a hooker must have put it on her. She’s got thick turquoise eyeliner and lime green glittery eye shadow.
“Long story. We used to work together.” It’s not a lie but in the way Kevin’s mind is ticking, he must think I had been an exotic dancer. Not the case! Though, what harm could come from him believing it to be true? It is safer for everyone, than Kevin knowing I’m working undercover.
Kevin laughs and his cheeks redden. I’m guessing it’s the beer. He’s looking over Kaitlyn a little too intimately and long for my pleasure.
“Quite a story, I bet,” Kevin says. “Maybe you can share it on our second date?”
