About the author
Joy Eileen is a born bibliophile who becomes deeply engaged with her characters, and has devoured more books than she would like to admit. She becomes obsessed with happily-ever-afters, and will read any genre that fulfills that requirement. Evading the library is something she has been known to do, because after befriending the characters returning them would be a heartbreaking event. Books are held hostage on her bookshelf, and any author that makes her ugly cry becomes her sworn enemy. Nicholas Sparks is one of the many on the list of villains.
As a massage therapist, most of Joy’s stories come to her while working. With the sound of classical music, and snoring from a half covered hostage, characters are created. The victim (massage patient) has no idea that while their body is being manipulated, Joy has traveled into distant lands creating landscapes and inhabitants as she goes. Her patients should be wary as sometimes they are pulled into her stories and turned into characters. Hero or Foe? Well, that depends on how they tip.

Now, I am in no way saying that every review you post should be a 4 or 5 star one. BUT, I am saying that even in the not-so-great reviews, there is still a process. Below you will find 6 little tips on how to post reviews. You all know I always like to interject my little two-cents in the most constructive of ways, so here goes:
1) When you review a book, PLEASE don’t give any SPOILERS. And don’t give any “SPOILER ALERTS” either, because just as soon as you type the words, the reader’s eyes have already moved across the line and read the SPOIL. Don’t do that again.

Barnes & Noble, Dead Nooks, and Brave New Branding

The big news in publishing this week is Barnes & Noble’s plan to ax the Nook. After losing over a billion dollars trying to make the Nook a contender, it seems B&N’s new CEO is ready to just cut bait. According to Michael Kozlowski over at Good E Reader:
The NOOK segment (including digital content, devices and accessories) had revenues of $52 million for the 4th quarter and $264 million for the full year, decreasing 39.8% for the quarter and 47.8% for the year. Device and accessories sales were $13 million for the quarter and $86 million for the full year, declining 48.2% and 66.7%, respectively, due to lower unit selling volume. Digital content sales were $40 million for the quarter and $177 million for the full year, declining 36.5% and 27.8%, respectively, due primarily to lower device unit sales.

Tell us a little about your book.
Rarity is more than a teenage love story/drama. Rarity deals with what happens when someone you love is diagnosed with a rare disorder. There are a lot of emotions that come into play when you have life-changing news and this book provides a glimpse into that world. Although it is a fiction story many of the events have happened to real people.
What is your favorite part about writing? Least favorite?
My favorite part of writing is creating the characters and braiding them into the story. It’s like having a blank canvas and creating something beautiful and heartfelt…only with words.
Least favorite is the promoting. I enjoy meeting new people but I hate having to find ways to talk about my book. I’d rather just become friends and get to know them – I make an awful sales girl. I’m the kid who had the lemonade stand but gave it away for free.
A director tells you that you have complete control over casting the movie version of your book. Who plays who?
Dylan Sprayberry (from Teen Wolf) would play Jay
Penelope Mitchell (from Vampire Diaries) would play Becca
Haley Ramm (Into the Wild) would play Brogen
If your house was burning down and you could save one thing, what would it be (don’t say photo albums, everyone says photo albums)?
My pet cockatiel, Gimli. He’s old but I love him.
If you could choose what one message that a reader takes away from reading your book, what would it be?
That a diagnosis of a rare disorder is devastating but it is not the end. You must rule your life and not let the disorder rule you.
Imagine a world where everyone wears a t-shirt that says something about who they are as a human being, i.e. “Doesn’t play well with others” or “Don’t talk to me until I’ve had coffee.” What would yours say?
“Must be kept in a cool environment or mood sours quickly.” Seriously. I hate the heat. Proof? We moved away from Austin, TX…who does that? It’s the best place to live. But it was so hot that I could not stand the temperature and we moved back to the Midwest to enjoy the 4 seasons.
Who has been your biggest supporter in your writing?
Tie for hubby and my mom.
What writer do you admire the most and why?
JK Rowling. She created this amazing world that has sparked so many young people to become avid readers. Her characters are amazing, the scenery is painted for us, and there is mystery, humor, peril, and love. The Potter books are a magnificent creation.
If you had only one book to read for the rest of your life what would it be?
Honestly, Bartlett’s Book of Quotations. I love famous quotes and try to think of the context in which the quote originated. I worry I’d tire of hearing the same story over and over again if I picked a traditional novel.

D.A. Roach has been telling stories since she was a young girl in the suburbs of Chicago. In college she met the man of her dreams, her happily ever after, and married him 2 weeks after graduating. They have 3 kids together and a pet cockatiel named Gimli. D.A. did not find a love for books until after college. Her parents were immigrants from Lithuania and found tv and radio easier ways to hear stories so they did not do much reading or encourage it. But once she finished college and D.A. had free time, she discovered how amazing it was to get lost in a story.
D.A. is a full time mom and wife. When she is not doing domestic things (laundry, bills, etc) she is writing, reading, creating mixed media art, and helping beautify her kids’ school landscape. Oh, and she is ALWAYS listening to music. Her favorite authors include Rebecca Donovan, Richelle Mead, Larissa Ione, Stephanie Meyer, E.L. James, and Sylvia Day. Reading great works from authors like these has motivated D.A. to write her own stories. She hopes to make positive changes in the world with her art and writing.
