Words to inspire
Michael A. McLellan
Quotes from emerging and fascinating author, Michael A. McLellan, sort of set the tone for how I feel about writing:
"Break the rules; there are no boundaries"
"Conformity strangles the spirit.
Telling it like it is!

2015 San Francisco Book Festival Honorable Mention General Fiction
The Promise of Fate was awarded Honorable Mention in the General Fiction category of this year's San Francisco Book Festival. This is particularly special to me as this is a wonderful venue for authors and readers to learn about new writing.

Hijacked!
This should probably be more distressing than it actually it is. During a morning writing session today, one of my minor characters started taking over. Just interrupted a perfectly reasonable part of the story with her own story. Well, what could I say? After all, she is my invited guest in the story. It would be horrendous manners on my part to say "Hang on..we've had enough out of you for the moment!" Besides being attentive to good manners, there is the ripe possibility that, if I let her flow continue unchecked, this character may open a new door in the story.
Hoping everybody has a good day of writing, reading or both.

The Girl in the Chicken Coop
Trivia buffs! The title of my blog is the first chapter in one of my favorite books in an old, delightful series. If you can guess the book, you will receive a specially crafted Lego sculpture by yours truly.
Once upon a time, I had a blog. I thought it would be cool to post a scrap of whatever I was writing at the time ...you know, keep people "in the know" about what I was working on. Tantalize followers [there were at least two] with what future glorious words they might see from me. I blogged bits and pieces of a memoir for about a month. I "built" a very good piece in this manner.
Then I entered the finished piece in an online contest. I would have won the contest, according to the editor of the site. Except my "work" had appeared elsewhere. She put my piece in a plagiarism program. And found my memoir. IN MY BLOG!
Cautionary tale, chilluns'.
