Instinct is often right, but not always. When a sea creature bites your leg and drags you into the deep, you fight and scream, air bubbles rushing out of your mouth in an exodus of desperation. You lose precious oxygen and, by the time you can collect your senses, you’re breathless, weaponless, and before long lifeless. Those who rely purely on instinct will refuse to understand, let alone accept, that a little planning and training can go a long way. Nothing is guaranteed, however. Death comes for us all in Her own sweet time.
