Getting Our Kicks – Day 1

I don’t actually know what to expect. For all that I’m a fantasy writer, I’m a realist. I know Route 66 is not what it used to be, nor has it been what we’ve imagined it once was. Still, there’s something about this road. There is something about the time in which it was born, used, abandoned. There is something about the vehicles, the people, and the dreams it has carried.

My husband and I are driving Route 66. The Mother Road. From Chicago to Santa Monica. In eleven days. And we’re trying t...

Hazard – Release Day

Today’s the day! HAZARD book #1 in the West Hell Magic series is available in ebook at all your favorite ebook stores. It should be out in print within a week or two. I’ll keep you posted.

This book is a hockey book. This book is also a magic book. Who knew putting those two things together would be so much fun to write? I can tell you that above anything else, this is an urban fantasy. This is about a young man trying to figure out where he fits in the world that doesn’t want him to be what...

London Vacation!

I had a chance to take a last-minute three-day vacation in London with the family. We had so much fun, I’m planning on returning as soon as time and funds allow.

Since it was my first visit to London, I wanted to do all the touristy stuff. We went to the Tower of London, walked across the Tower Bridge, toured the Globe Theater, went to THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG at the Duchess Theater (hilarious!), strolled the National Gallery, Westminster Abbey, The London Eye, British Library, Covent Garden...

Murder Weekend

Way (way way way) back when I first entertained the thought of a writing career, I knew I never wanted to stop learning new ways to approach story, character, pacing, theme, etc.. I made a deal with myself that I would always strive to improve my writing.

This weekend, I and my friends, Diana Pharaoh Francis and Liz Hartley attended the Wordcrafters Mechanics of Murder conference to bone up on information that will help us create even more convincing murders, crime scenes, and villains.

The s...

Good News for Ordinary

First, some good news: I plan to blog more regularly, hopefully weekly, so you’ll be getting a few more updates on my writing projects, knitting, and what have you. I’ve been pretty quiet here on the old blog lately, and I thought it was time to shake things up.

Which brings me to how my writing projects are going.

In a word, great! The third book in the Ordinary Magic series, GODS AND ENDS is out and it got a 4.5 star, Top Pick review over at RT Book Reviews! Here’s a link to the lovely revi...

DevilsAndDetails200x300Yes! DEVILS AND DETAILS, book #2 of the Ordinary Magic series is out in ebook form today! Here are the buy links: Amazon, Barnes & Noble, iTunes, Kobo. It will be available in print in just a few days. I’ll post updates.

In a book full of creatures and vacationing gods, I have to say I had a lot of fun writing all of them. One of my favorite characters to explore a little more deeply in this book is Odin, though I was surprised by new information we discover about Old Rossi, the prime vampire...
