Imprisoned for months, only two thoughts have kept Ada from succumbing to the pain once and for all. Escape, and an excruciating death for the vampire who locked her in this damn cell.
Ada’s freedom rests in the hands of someone she was sure had forgotten about her. But she couldn’t have been more wrong.
This piece of flash fiction set in the same world as Blood Moon Falling is a short story of approx 1900 words posted on Wattpad. Content warnings: Violence, adult language, and a sexual situation.

Spotlight on Indie Romance: 2018 Round-up.
It has been a great year for reading. So many wonderful romances in all sub-genres produced by Indie authors. For the last post of 2018, my selected favorites.

First up, my personal favorite: Science Fiction Romance (SFR). SFR comes in many flavors; military, settlers, cyborgs, alien-heroes, alien-villians, even alien-shifters. Carol Van Natta‘s Central Galactic Concordance series falls mostly into the military trope, but adds in a bit of cyborg, and in Pet Trade: A Central Galactic Concordance Novella, some settler-romance and a wonderful menagerie of genetically engineered pets. An injured veterinarian and a cyborg with unusual pets must join forces to save their town. It’s a deadly adventure—with pets—in the fringes of space.

For those who enjoy more light-hearted romances, romantic comedy remains one of the most popular sub-genres.

Mailing List Update (GDPR Compliance)
Happy Monday! If I say it, maybe it will come true, lol.
I just wanted to check in regarding my mailing list/newsletter, Rae’s Reading Room. You may have heard of the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which comes into effect on the 25th. In order to comply with GDPR consent requirements, I’m asking everyone, regardless of country of residence, who was already subscribed to my list to either reconfirm their subscription or unsubscribe via the email I sent to all existing subscribers this past Friday. Sent on the 18th, the subject heading was “Still interested in Rae’s Reading Room?”
If you’ve received the email from last week and updated your settings via the link provided, thank you kindly! If not, you’ll have until this Friday to do so, or you may subscribe at any time with my updated sign-up form here. After May 25th, I will be unsubscribing anyone from my list who has not actively reconfirmed their subscription to my list and explicitly consented to receiving emails by selecting the “Email” check box under the Marketing Permissions section.
Many thanks for your cooperation, and I truly hope you’ll continue your subscription to Rae’s Reading Room (or subscribe for the first time!) to receive news and updates from me via email.

Remembering Favorite Books from Childhood #UpbeatAuthors
This week at Upbeat Authors, the theme is about reading and nostalgia. Specifically, recalling your favorite book or books as a child. I have a few I remember fondly, but the one that came to mind first was Birdsong Lullaby by Diane Stanley.
Yes, I still have my copy!
Diane Stanley wrote and illustrated this children’s book in which an imaginative little girl tells her mother all the things she’d do if she were a bird. The mother indulgently plays along as she tucks her daughter in, listening to how she’d fly to Brazil and sleep with monkeys in a tree then fly through a rainbow and come out full of colors.

It’s just a beautiful little book; I highly recommend it if you have young children and happen to come across a copy.

Simple Ways to Show Love #UpbeatAuthors
I was introduced to Upbeat Authors through Paranormal and Contemporary Romance author Rosanna Leo’s posts, and I’m excited to be a part this group of supportive fellow writers. Each week, I’ll be joining them with my own contributions based on the week’s theme.

This week’s theme: Simple ways to show the important people in your life that you love them
I thought on the theme for a while, and when I couldn’t come up with a one-size-fits-all answer, I reached out to a group of friends for suggestions. After a bit of discussion, we all decided it really depends on the person, that one specific gift or gesture isn’t right for everybody.
I’ll text comics or funny memes to my sister so she can have a laugh after a tough day at work. If a coworker likes a certain type of snack, I’ll be sure to grab it for them during those weeks when the job is particularly stressful. A friend of mine who’s a big fan of Chris Evans, I may send her a bunch of Captain America gifs if she’s feeling down.
Knowing your friends and family well enough to be aware of what makes them happy, and taking the time to reach out to show them they’re important to you, matters more than the gifts or gestures themselves. These little ways of expressing to people that I care about them are some of the simple ways I show love.
How do you show love to the important people in your life, in simple ways?

The Hunt is Upon Us!
[image error] Candy Goya replica, GISH 2016
GISHWHES starts this Saturday!
“The heck is GISHWHES?” you may wonder. It’s the “Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen”, and it’s a weird, awesome, exhausting, Guinness World Record-holding good time. But GISH is more than that, it’s also a global event to benefit great causes, and is the brainchild of one of the stars of my favorite show, Supernatural.
Misha Collins (aka the angel Castiel) first started GISHWHES back in 2011 and since then thousands have participated and raised money for Collins’ non-profit, Random Acts. They’ve helped to rebuild Haiti, built a free high school in Nicaragua, and provided medical equipment and shelter for Syrian refugee families. Not to mention the countless charitable donations and random acts of kindness they organized and funded in the US and abroad.
Last year was my first hunt, and the strangers from around the world who would become my teammates, I now consider to be close friends. I never expected to form such a strong bond with a group of people brought together for a game, but life is funny like that.
