This is “The One”… A Perspective Shift in the Back of a Car in LA

Hey everybody. Today’s blog is a recap of my most recent podcast, “A Perspective Shift in the Back of a Car in LA.” This feels big… This is “it.” But first, here’s the context:

Dustin – who you all love so much from Tea with GaryVee – was with me last Sunday in LA at the CoolKicks x VeeFriends Flex’n Fox event. Afterwards, he jumped in the car and asked me for a recap video. Ironically, when you see it in video form below, I wasn’t even in the mood to do it… but I did – and then I just kind of lost myself in my words and went off for several minutes.

I have a funny feeling this will be the podcast and video that is referenced quite often… And so, when I see all of you for the next 55 years, let me know if this was “the one”… because I think it might be for many of you.

Damn this hit. This week (7 weeks after I attended VeeCon) I started my career in web3. I have a different reality now- in the best way. Mindset matters. Perspective matters. Find your drive and unlock the world..

— Mr. 90s Mets Kid (@Mr90sMetsKid) July 27, 2022

thank you. just gave a listen and really moved me as i looked in the perspective of my friends and i. this really illustrates the importance your mindset has on success in one’s life

— Vex (@Vex52863077) July 27, 2022

we underestimate how powerful 5 and 10 minute podcasts can be

— Ben Brummell (@benbrummell_) July 27, 2022

I hope it helps ❤

Takeaways from “A Perspective Shift in the Back of a Car in LA”

For the full podcast, scroll to the end of this blog… but here are some important takeaways.

The ANSWERS are always changing because the QUESTIONS are always changing

The world is just filled with so many different truths, and people’s truths change hour by hour… day by day. For example, there are many people that I just saw in Minnesota back in May that have a different reality right now in late July, just seven weeks later. Maybe somebody got sick, or maybe something popped off in a good way…

And so, everyone’s always looking for answers when the truth is that the answers are always changing and evolving based on the questions – and questions are coming up on a daily basis.

So, this is not about a tactic, like, “here’s the blueprint, go do this”… This is about a perspective and a sustainable mental framework that allows you to deal with anything and everything.

This is about a SUSTAINABLE MENTAL FRAMEWORK

What people need is a sustainable mental framework that is grounded in gratitude, that is grounded in practical optimism, that is grounded tactically in underpriced attention and opportunities…

The attention and where you need to put your energy, your output, your content, your information, your music, your art, your ideas, your business development – those will change. But what everyone is in search of and in need of is a sustainable mental framework, and that is what I’m gonna continue to work on.

If you’re able to see the world through the eyes of “attacking hate with love,” through the eyes of “tenacity and work ethic are part of the formula, thus find something you like.. otherwise, you won’t be able to work that hard,” … If you’re able to figure these things out and deploy that mental framework, you’ll win.

You’re not really “stuck”… You just haven’t figured out the moves to unstick yourself

To me, this concept of people saying, well, I’m stuck, is just actually not true. It’s true, because you think you’re stuck… but the actual world doesn’t think you’re stuck. You just haven’t figured out the moves you have to make to unstick yourself.

You might have it much more challenging than others – yes. But you’re not “stuck.”

Why I’m so PASSIONATE about 20 to 30 year-olds

I go so crazy about 20 to 30 year-olds because so many of them don’t have the “handcuffs.” That’s why I’m so passionate about 20-30.  It’s not that I’m less passionate about 50-90, it’s just that 50-90 comes with baggage. It comes with being a little stuck – children, mortgages, debt…

20 to 30 comes with just opportunity, and you just gotta get the fuck out of the school system and parents’ traditional bullshit points of view.

Nothing’s binary… it’s fucking PURPLE, motherfuckers

Now, parents have plenty of good points of view, too. This is not binary… Parents are the best; parents are the worst. School’s the best; school’s the worst. I’m the best; I’m the worst.

Everything is both.

Everybody just wants to be one thing – it’s got to be ALL red or it’s got to be ALL blue. It’s fucking purple, motherfuckers! It’s always purple. Nothing’s binary. 💜

If YOU’VE decided it’s over, then it’s over

What is binary is this: if you are pessimistic and you say you’re stuck, then it’s over. If you’ve decided it’s over, there aint no fucking video, podcast or blog I can make to make you “un-over.”

Or, there is… which is why I’m motivated to share this with you right now.

The most powerful reason that human beings are the best in the world

The fact that one human being can say one thing at the right second to another human being that can fundamentally change the process of their life because they have now decided to open up a different perspective and see the world differently is the most intoxicating, powerful reason that human beings are the best in the world… and I will continue to be one small version of a human being.

I definitely think there are tens to hundreds of millions of people who get deep happiness for themselves out of trying to be a communicator to help others. Some do it at the highest level of distribution like me… others do it for just their child.

Let THIS be the rant that makes you say, “he’s fucking right”

ENOUGH. Let this little rant be the one that makes you go, “he’s fucking right.” Because if you say I’m wrong, nobody’s gonna be able to help you.

If you think the people who are using fear and negativity to get your attention are right, they’re just selling you darkness and you’re buying it.

This is an inside game

It’s you versus you. It’s you with you. It’s ONLY you and you… and too many of you right now are succumbing to consuming darkness, and that’s your fucking fuck-up. So, take on the accountability and say it’s my job to start being more optimistic and happier, and I’m going to seek out humans and content that does that.

Get on the mental scale

Just like when you have to lose 30 pounds, you go on the scale and you’re like, okay, I’m a buck-ninety, I gotta get to 160… let this be the video, let this be the second in your life that you get on the mental scale and say:

I’m too cynical.

I’m too scared.

I’m frightened.

I’m insecure… which is why all this other bad shit is happening, and I’m ready to do something about it.

And the first thing to do is to cut out the negativity in your life.

I don’t want you to “cancel” negative people. I want you to “cut down” the time you spend with them

Cut the news the fuck out. Cut all the people on your social platforms that are fucking negative. Cut the people in your real life – cut them down.

You don’t have to “cancel” and completely cut out your mom… You just might be able to talk to her once a month for 5 minutes instead of 3 times a day for 15 and just have her talk negative nonsense to you.

That’s the biggest issue people have. They hear me and they’re like, “I can’t cut my brother out!” I don’t want you to. I want you to cut down your brother. Limit your brother. If your brother is fucking bringing negativity to you an hour at a time every single day, that is seeping into your soul.

You know what keeps me happy as fuck?

I talk to myself more about what I fucked up about than what I’ve accomplished. And let me make it very clear to you… I’m incredibly proud of how big one list is versus the other, and yet…

All my focus goes onto accountability for what I suck at.

And that doesn’t bring me down – that makes me happy because I take on the accountability and I ask myself, what can I do about it? How do I make it better? Can that be apologizing to somebody… or can that be about changing my behavior?

It’s often both.

You’re the only one that can change your life

If you can afford it – therapy. If you can’t afford it – use the free therapy that’s on YouTube and podcasts every fucking day. DO something about it… because one day, you’re gonna wake up and it’s gonna all be over and you’re gonna be dead forever, and you’re gonna regret it.

It’s time. Change your life because nobody else is gonna change it for you. There will be people that come along that wanna be the assist – I’d love to be the assist. Boy, would I love to be the assist. I’d love to bounce it right down the lane and have you dunk it, but I can’t be the one who scores the points.

That needs to be you.

Some Perspective on Changing Your “Dwell Time”

Dwell timing is a big thing I think about when it comes to perspective and pushing harder for optimism overall. One of the most interesting parts of having a practical and optimistic, non-cynical or negative point of view is how long your dwell time and anxious time is on issues.

I’m practical and very optimistic and very positive, but I’m a human being and I struggle with things every day. The difference is, when your macro perspective is in hope and love and good and warmth versus the reverse – when you’re grounded in security versus insecurity and worrying about judgment – what ends up happening is that you spend less time dwelling.

The shit that hits the fan for me every day (which is a lot, given what I do) sometimes lasts six seconds, six minutes, six hours (if it’s a huge fucking issue), six days if it’s a very big fucking issue. On the other hand, for a lot of people that are the reverse, they’re sitting on a small issue for six years instead of six seconds. They’re sitting on an issue for six months instead of six minutes…

There’s nobody who’s positive and happy and carefree and not anxious every second of the day. What it’s about is how long it sits as an anxious or negative situation. There are people in my family and my organizations that sit on shit, on grudges, on being upset about something literally for six months, but when it comes to my desk or others I’ve seen, it’s really a six-second issue.

There’s a lot to this concept of working on your “dwell time,” and I hope this helps you or someone you know today!

VeeCon Recap: Day 2 – Opening Keynote, A Big Surprise, Wyclef Jean & More!

If you missed the last blog recap of DailyVee episode 603, it was all about the opening day of VeeCon, which kicked off with the Thursday night welcome party. Today’s blog dives into day 2 – the first full day of the conference – and I’m fired up for you all to learn what went down. Keep reading for a glimpse of how it all happened, from my opening keynote with comedians doing impressions of me, to my favorite part – meeting and taking selfies with as many VeeCon attendees as possible!

To relive the day in its entirety, check out DailyVee episode 604 at the end of this blog. I hope you enjoy!

VeeCon Day 2 – May 20, 2022

I already knew that day 2 was when shit would really get real… so I closed out night 1 with this PSA advising everyone to get their rest, pace themselves, and show up bright and early for the first official full day:

After a successful kickoff party, day 2 – for me – was all about over-delivering on value for the thousands of people who decided to attend the conference. As soon as the day started, I was just locked in to a different kind of energy and totally focused on making sure everyone had a great time.

From the ferris wheel and the flea market to the gaming station, Candy Digital interactive booth and all the panel discussions, everyone was heads-down for months making sure this would be an amazing experience for the community… and I think we got there 🙂

⭐THE MESSAGE/TONE⭐

The tone @garyvee set from the opening keynote was perfect. He encouraged people (even introverts) to network and drove home the importance of kindness/ positivity. He hit on it again in the final keynote. Not the floor. Not sales. Kindness.

Introducing Day One and the VaynerX Incubator, a School for Entrepreneurs

Hey everyone. I’m writing today’s blog post to bring attention to a partnership I really believe in. Introducing the VaynerX Incubator, a ten-week program in collaboration with Day One specifically designed to help those of you who are serious about becoming true entrepreneurs.

Most of you know how I felt about school…and particularly for entrepreneurs, I think it’s time we start having a real conversation about whether traditional systems of schooling actually work. That being said, while I hated school, I’m actually pro-education, and when I came across the startup Day One, I knew I wanted to partner.with them.

Day One is building a new kind of school for founders… one that’s virtual, community-driven and actually supports, guides and teaches aspiring entrepreneurs. They’ve designed an experience perfectly suited for folks who are exploring entrepreneurship, but who are maybe afraid or don’t know where to start. I decided to partner with Day One for the VaynerX Incubator program to leverage my DNA as a natural entrepreneur and give back to the next generation of operators.

I’ll be announcing something big with Day One in the next few weeks – a collaboration I’m very excited about – but for now, keep reading to learn more about the VaynerX Incubator, Day One, and their fellowship.

I hope it helps.

About Day One

I’m happy to introduce you guys to Day One because this startup is attacking a subject matter that’s very near and dear to my heart – entrepreneurship.

The world is evolving and that is going to require entrepreneurs, but more importantly, it requires real entrepreneurs. Unfortunately, with entrepreneurship becoming super popular and cool like it has in the last decade, I see way too many people making themselves unhappy trying to become CEOs and founders when they’re really not built for it. Thankfully, Day One is providing a framework to help people understand what entrepreneurship actually is and giving them the tools and resources they need to navigate successfully.

I announced my partnership with Day One as a mentor for their fellowship program back just under a month ago. Check out the video below to learn more:

What is the VaynerX Incubator?

The VaynerX Incubator is a new, ten-week entrepreneurship accelerator partnership between VaynerX and Day One and run by the VX team. During the ten weeks, participants will spend time being mentored by me and my network of business operators and entrepreneurs, learning my approach to leadership and entrepreneurship.

You’ll embed with a variety of companies I’m involved in across personal investments, VaynerX and personal relationships, and you’ll take on projects from business leaders to put your learnings into action. Through the program you’ll collaborate on new concepts that my teams and I are incubating across Web3, consumer products, NFTs, the metaverse and more.

Are you interested in the upcoming VX Incubator? To be considered, you need to first be a Day One Fellow – more details on the fellowship below!

The Day One Fellowship Program

Day One offers a fellowship program for entrepreneurs centered on learning, connecting, and making progress together. As a Fellow, you have access to a curated group of peers, live learning sprints taught by world-class faculty, connections to partners across venture capital, coaching from experienced founders, weekly events with the world’s top builders, and so much more.

‍The next Day One Fellowship Cohort launches on May 1 and applications are open now. To learn more and apply, please visit http://joindayone.com/

Stay tuned for more on The VaynerX Incubator and share this blog with a friend if you found it valuable!

How to Protect Yourself from NFT Scams

There are a lot of scams going on in the NFT space unfortunately – the most common one involving fake URLs.

It’s extremely concerning to me how many people are clicking fake URL websites, connecting their crypto wallet, not reading the terms, and unintentionally giving permission to scammers to steal their NFTs.

This is by far the biggest scam I see right now in the NFT space – fuck fake URLs! Check out this video for more on how to protect yourself:

In this article, we’ll talk about a few precautions and steps you can take to not get scammed – hope this helps.

Enter Team GaryVee:

In this article, we’ll talk about the common scams in the NFT space and how to protect yourself.

Scammers are becoming more and more deceptive as new people enter the NFT space. One of the biggest things you can do to protect yourself is triple checking the URL of any site that you’re trying to reach. You can minimize your risk of getting scammed by making sure the URLs you’re clicking on are legit.

Many scam sites are made to look identical to actual sites that you’re familiar with – but the URL will be slightly different:

Check for extra letters, different site extensions, or similar looking characters:

One example of this is a scam happening in the ad section of Google Search. When users search “VeeFriends” – for example – into the Google search bar, the ad placements at the top will sometimes link to fake websites.

Please note that these sites are paid ads, and they’re not real. The official VeeFriends website URL is veefriends.com.

Two ways someone can get scammed Revealing your secret phrase (also known as your seed phrase)

Your secret phrase is a series of words that’s your way of accessing your wallet from any device. Make sure your secret phrase is written down on a piece of paper, and that you have more than one copy.

Most importantly. DON’T GIVE IT OUT TO ANYONE.

Connecting your crypto wallet & authorizing a malicious transaction

Both of these scams could occur on fake website URLs – where hackers may ask you to reveal your secret phrase or connect your wallet to their site.

These aren’t the ONLY scams that can occur, but these are the most common.

Where scams can take place

Scammers most commonly work through fake DMs, fake profiles, fake tweets, fake emails, and on Discord. Sometimes, they might also hack verified Twitter accounts.

Scammers often use Discord DMs to try to lure victims to malicious sites.

1.

With Discord Nitro, scammers can choose any username – they can even impersonate Gary and send links to fake URLs.

Regardless of whether scammers hack Twitter accounts, or send you fake DMs, if you see a post that ever promises any exclusive minting opportunity through a link, please make sure to thoroughly verify it.

Examples of scams that happened in the past ApeCoin Launch

One example is a scam that happened during the ApeCoin launch. Scammers hacked verified Twitter accounts during the launch, and those accounts (that had blue checkmarks and Bored Ape Yacht Club profile pictures),

Users that clicked the links got taken to a fake site, connected their wallet, and got scammed.

ApeCoin put out a link of the only official website.

Animation scam

Another well-known scam offered to animate your NFT. These scammers also hacked verified Twitter accounts that also directed users to a malicious link pretending to animate their NFTs – once again, users got tricked into connecting their wallets, and got scammed.

Recap

Ultimately, the sure-fire way to not get scammed is to make sure you’re on the right URL.

There are 3 ways to do that:

Type out the right URL yourself. Click the URL in bio of a project’s verified Twitter profile,Verify the origin URL of the transaction.

LinkedIn Audio Events Quick Guide

Hey everyone. For those of you who missed it, I recently hosted a live LinkedIn AMA – Ask Me Anything – for 15 minutes to test the new LinkedIn Audio Events feature and answer some questions.

Let me just say that I’ve done this for a long time. This is what I do for a living – getting into the dirt with new social media platforms and features. It’s what I did with Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok and more. That being said, with only a few seconds into my first LinkedIn Audio Event, I could confidently say it’s a good product already… and it’s still very early.

Many of you know that I’ve been a big advocate of audio for a long time now. Check out this blog I wrote five years ago on The Rise of Audio & Voice. Then when Clubhouse first came out in 2020, I said to everybody, this is going to be like Snapchat Stories… It’s a feature that every platform should do because audio is clearly something people want. It’s a time saver that allows you to consume content while still living your life. So the Audio Events feature is a smart move from LinkedIn. By the way, you should learn more about my show on Twitter Spaces, DNA with GaryVee featuring emerging artists.

To put it into perspective, just in my 15-minute LinkedIn AMA alone, there were 500 people who joined in the middle of the day without me even promoting it much. The power of voice and audio aside, there are still questions that you have as a first-time user of anything. For audio features like this one, you might ask: How do I call people up onto the stage? How do I follow or share? My hot take on LinkedIn’s new Audio Events is that I like it; it’s intuitive and easy to figure out. I think LinkedIn is gonna find this successful and the quality of the conversations is gonna matter.

I’ll keep using the feature and testing it out with my LinkedIn community in the coming weeks, but that’s about all I can after my first use. Now, I’ll pass it off to my team to break down the specifics.

I hope this helps.

Team GaryVee , here 👋

LinkedIn has changed a lot since it launched in 2003. It originally started as a job searching platform where people were recruited for jobs, but today, people are using the platform to put out and consume content. In fact, Gary calls it “The Business Facebook” because of its high organic reach, similar to Facebook in 2012.

Recently, LinkedIn introduced a new feature called “LinkedIn Audio Events” where people can host audio-only virtual events and interact with their audiences live. Users can:

Host live Q&A/AMAsInterview expertsCreate a virtual gathering space to discuss new launches, ask for feedback about products, and have a conversation with the audience

Last Monday, March 28th, Gary tested out the feature for the very first time! Here’s some of what the team learned in the process:

How To Use LinkedIn Audio Events

Currently, LinkedIn Audio Events are in the beta testing stage and the feature is available to a group of creators to test and share their early feedback. For now, LinkedIn users don’t have the ability to host their own events, but they’re able to participate by joining the audio events hosted by their favorite creators.

Setting up a LinkedIn Audio Event

Setting up a LinkedIn Audio Event is similar to setting up any type of event on LinkedIn.

Go to the “Create an event” page

Click the “Event format” drop-down bar and select “LinkedIn Audio event”

Fill all of the required fields

4. Post!

The audio event will then be posted as a regular event on LinkedIn where people can RSVP and add to their calendars. Once scheduled, here’s an example of how an audio event will appear in the LinkedIn feed:

How to go live & manage the room

At the scheduled time, there will be a “Join” button in the event where you can join. First, you will be in a testing room where you will see a “Go live” button. Once you go live, people will also be able to join the event.

During the event, you will be able to get people on stage only when they “raise their hands” to interact with you or ask you a question.

You will be able to see the list of people who raised their hands by clicking on the notification under the event name. Then, you can allow them to join you on stage!

You can then move them back into the audience by tapping on their profile on the stage.

Recording the event

At this stage, LinkedIn doesn’t provide the ability to record the event. BUT, if you have a second phone or a camera, it would be a good idea to have a video of yourself talking and answering the questions, or you can just record the audio and post-produce it with some graphics, cartoons, etc. This will give you the ability to repurpose your event content and provide value to more people by sharing it across social media platforms!

Here are some examples of the content we were able to produce for Gary using recordings of his audio event:

Tips for promoting your LinkedIn Audio Event

Here are a few tips to make sure that your LinkedIn Audio Event is successful:

Plan & schedule the event at least 2-3 days in advance to make sure that your audience knows about it.
Provide some information in the event description section so people know what to expect from the event (like topics or special guests) and can get ready with their questions.

Promote the event across your other social media pages (but realize that those without a LinkedIn account or who aren’t logged into LinkedIn won’t be able to see it)Re-share the event on your LinkedIn profile a few hours ahead of the event to remind people about it.

Check the attendees section to have some context about who’s joining the event and be contextual to the room.

We really hope you enjoyed this article and that you now have at least a baseline understanding of LinkedIn Audio Events and how they work! We’d love to hear your thoughts on Twitter! Tag us @teamgaryvee or Gary at @garyvee

Don’t forget to stay tuned for more LinkedIn Audio Events from Gary coming soon!

Here’s Where UNHAPPINESS Begins: A Gary Vaynerchuk Original Film

Today I’m bringing you my latest original short film all about accountability. Introducing, Here’s Where UNHAPPINESS Begins…

We need to start putting accountability on a pedestal. I think that if you take responsibility for everything (without beating yourself up, of course), then you are also the person with the power to change things around.

When you hold yourself accountable, it leads to solutions; it helps you maintain a position of control instead of being a victim. So many of you reading this right now — in this exact second — are unhappy because you’re pointing fingers instead of thumbs and feeling a lack of control.

The lack of accountability leads to so much worse. If we can prop up accountability instead of shying away from it, we will be happier.

I hope you watch and enjoy. Watch it twice to let it really sink in 😉
