Southern Caribbean Cruising — Grenada; touring the island

The fellow you see above is a Mona monkey, which were introduced to Grenada from Ghana. You can find these guys in the forest, and I’ll tell you in a few moments where we encountered this cute, friendly fellow. But first I left you hanging on Monday with our visit to Annandale Waterfall & Forest Park. So, here is Annandale Waterfall:

By now Garfield St. Louis was driving us high into the mountainous interior to Grand Etang National Park & Forest Reserve. Here we woul...

Southern Caribbean Cruising — Grenada

Okay, it’s true. I skipped around a bit to encompass the ABC Islands in one long series. But now I’m back to covering other Southern Caribbean destinations we hit beyond that. This week and next I’ll show you the island of Grenada in the Windward Islands of the West Indies. This was our view from Grandeur of the Seas when we docked in the capital city of St. George’s:

At around 8:40 a.m. on 22 February 2022 we disembarked and headed toward town.

Southern Caribbean Cruising — ABC Islands; Curaçao, a Sunnier Afternoon for Better Photos

Tugs beneath Koningin Julianabrug

You may have noticed in this series on Willemstad, Curaçao that the cloudiness in the morning was far from ideal for picture taking. Fortunately, that condition did not hold throughout the day. Today’s photographs of were taken beginning at 3:55 p.m. in the afternoon, beginning with the photo above of the Koningin Julianabrug (Queen Juliana Bridge). This colossally tall bridge spans Sint Anna Bay, and reaches heights of 185 feet/56.4 meters. The rest of today...

Southern Caribbean Cruising — ABC Islands; Curaçao Vendors, Veggies, and Views

For a rather unique take on an outdoor produce market, head north along Willemstad’s waterfront and hang a left at Sha Caprileskade. This takes you to the “Floating Market,” most of which doesn’t really float. These vendors sail in from Venezuela, hawking everything from arts and crafts to fresh produce and spices. Want a piece of fresh fruit? I mean really fresh? Here’s where you want to go:

A look back toward Sint Anna Bay will get you a v...

Southern Caribbean Cruising — ABC Islands; Curaçao Green Spaces and Street Art

Dushi has many meanings in Curaçao, but when you see it alone, such as in the signage above, it means nice. And nice is indeed a fitting description for the visitor to this wonderfully charming World Heritage Site in Curaçao. Willemstad, the capital city of Curaçao, is a marvelous blend of charming architecture and bright colors that will delight the photographer or casual observer at every turn.

Southern Caribbean Cruising — ABC Islands; Curaçao

When you step off the ship in Curaçao and head out on foot to the capital city Willemstad, one of the first places you’ll encounter on the “C” of the ABC Islands is Rif Fort, which is part of the Renaissance Mall. That might sound dull, but it’s rather neat to see this modernization of a 19th century fort constructed to curb attacks by pirates.
