Jewel of the Seas — Norway; Honningsvåg Waterfront

Today I’m just going to take you around the Honningsvåg waterfront for some picturesque fishing fleet fotography featuring fish, floats, and friendly fun folks (time stamps included for reference):

And, muc...

Jewel of the Seas — Norway; Skarsvågrevva and back to Honningsvåg

Thoroughly confused yet on this day-long trip from Honningsvåg through North Cape and back via multiple stops along the way? Perhaps the map below will help. After leaving Nordkapphallen (North Cape Visitors Center) we headed back south toward Honningsvåg, where Jewel of the Seas awaited us. Along the way we made a brief stop to take some photographs at Skarsvågrevva, a mere wide spot on the E69 that allows vehicles to pull over.

Fun Photo Friday — Nordkapphallen Favorites

And here are today’s Nordkapphallen favorites. Next week we continue on this excursion beginning with a brief stop at the Skarsvågrevva viewpoint, then into Honningsvåg.

Jewel of the Seas — Norway; Touring Nordkapphallen

Today we explore the Northkapphallen (North Cape Vistors Center), starting with the photographic star of the show, the North Cape Globe. You’ll have to get close and wait for a break between selfies to get a shot of this sculpture without people in it. And even then, expect to get heads bobbing along the bottom of the photo:

Nearby is the visitors center, (Nordkapphallen) which includes a wonderful gift shop with reasonable pricin...

Jewel of the Seas — Norway; Nordkapphallen (North Cape Vistors Center)

We’re now at our northernmost point in this excursion from Honningsvåg. We’ve reached the Nordkapphallen, otherwise known as the North Cape Vistors Center. We reached Nordkapphallen on 25 June 2022. So, just how north are we? The Arctic Circle is denoted on maps at 66º 34′ North, and Nordkapp reaches almost 5º beyond that — at 71º 10′ 21″ North. Since the summer solstice for 2022 began just the day before, we’re up here at a time during which the sun wil...

Fun Photo Friday — Tufjordhøyda and Skarsvåg Favorites

Today’s Fun Photo Friday contains favorites taken of Tufjordhøyda and Skarsvåg. Next week it’s time to head even farther north, Nordkapphallen — the North Cape Visitors Center at 71º 10′ 21″ North Latitude.

Jewel of the Seas — Norway; Skarsvåg and Red King Crab

Back when I was in the United States Air Force, I had a control tower chief who would routinely admonish us controllers that, “You can’t make chicken salad out of chicken guano.” Okay. I cleaned that up just a wee bit. He didn’t really use the word salad. (Got ya!) At any rate, as I mentioned in Monday’s article, red king crab is an invasive species in Norway that has the potential to devastate the fishing industry here. But at least some locals are trying to...

Jewel of the Seas — Norway; Skarsvåg via Tufjordhøyda

We got back on the tour bus and left Kamøyvær for another small village farther north, Skarsvåg. But before we would arrive there we would pass through a magical place called Tufjordhøyda. In English this is known as the Aurora Lights View Parking area, and the surrounding countryside makes this a worthy stop even in broad daylight with zero chance of seeing the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights). I posted the picture below at higher-than-normal resol...
