The Buildings of La Paz

Party Place in Yellow

Strolling the streets of La Paz presents one with explosions of color contrasted with the more traditional.

Today I present the little touches that give La Paz so much of its photogenic charm.

Continuing Along the La Paz Boardwalk

La Paz boardwalk, welcome sign, and

La Paz boardwalk, welcome sign, and “lighthouse”

The city of La Paz is a real charmer with much to see and photograph. Even the shoreline has a character all its own.

I hinted on Monday that you would see a gigantic oyster shell and pearl. This is just one of the many pieces of art that decorate the boardwalk.

Across the street from the boardwalk you’ll find brightly painted buildings. Here is a restaurant that was still decorated for Día de Muertos,...

Arriving La Paz, Baja

Very Welcome to La Paz (Peace), Port of Illusion

Very Welcome to La Paz (Peace), Port of Illusion

On Monday, November 3, the Golden Princess arrived off La Paz, Baja California Sur, in the Sea of Cortez. This is not a common cruise ship destination, and neither Ursula nor I had ever been here before so we were quite looking forward to visiting La Paz. We were not disappointed.

Bay of La Paz

Unlike all the other Mexican ports we would visit this cruise, La Paz is not a tender port. You dock just off the city’s boardwalk, which runs along the...

Outrageously Funny Video — “Glock Engineer Interview”

Readers of my firearms posts may have discerned by now my less than enthusiastic response to all things Glock. So, when I stumbled across this “Interview” video with a “Glock Engineer” concerning the “Glock 43,” I just couldn’t help but laugh out loud. It is, of course, one of those bogus “Translation” videos, this time from Spanish and which in reality has absolutely nothing to do with Glocks. There’s another on the Glock 43 using that often-used Hitler Rant scene from the movie Der Untergan...

Fun Photo Friday — Danza de los Voladores

One Ritual, Two Names — Danza de los Voladores (Dance of the Flyers) or Palo Volador (Pole Flying)

One Ritual, Two Names — Danza de los Voladores (Dance of the Flyers) or Palo Volador (Pole Flying)

There is a ritual originating from the deep, central regions of Mexico known as Pole Flying (Palo Volador) or the Dance of the Flyers (Danza de los Voladores). Today it’s more associated with the Totonac people along the eastern coastal Veracruz region of Mexico.

Continuing Our Tour of Land’s End and El Arco (The Arch)

Land's End as seen from the Golden Princess

Land’s End panorama as seen from the Golden Princess

CaboSan Lucas does not have a pier in waters deep enoughto handle a large ship. That means your cruise ship will be anchoring offshore in the Bahia (Bay) San Lucas and you will be transportedashore via either ship’s tender or one of the many local tenders that the cruise lines hire. That has both advantages and disadvantages.

Heading Out Towards Land’s End

Land's End

Land’s End

Want some cheap entertainment and adventure while visiting Cabo San Lucas? Look no further than a boat ride out to Land’s End and El Arco (The Arch).

El Arco — The Arch

El Arco — The Arch

Upon arrival by ship’s tender Ursula and I strolled around the Marina Cabo San Lucas. Here we found several opportunities for taking yet another (we’d done this before) boat ride out to the very tip of the Baja Peninsula. Just walk around to the backside of the marina and check out the various water taxis and glass-...

Cabo — Seals, Pelicans, Rocks, and Scooby-Doo

Pelicans on the prowl

Pelicans on the prowl

Cabo San Lucas has some pretty extraordinary wildlife that doesn’t seem quite so wild. Indeed these pelicans are almost tame in how close they come to the tourists and fishermen. They’ll even jump into the boat looking for morsels, but they don’t seem eager to share.

Sharing is caring

Ursula and I haggled down the price of a water tour and boarded a boat to go out to El Arco de San Cabo San Lucas (which you’ll see in a later post). Along the way we stumbled upon the peli...
