Fun Photo Friday — Loreto Favorites Part 1

By the way, if you’re reading this and other material authored by me on The Destinary website, this post was not “Posted on (fill in the date) | By destinary” as they’ve been erroneously claiming; this material was in fact reposted. The Destinary have also been claiming the right to do so, without links back to the original and without full attribution (“by RDoug” and a nonworking link is not proper attribution) with a rather bizarre interpretation of U.S. copyright law in which they cl...

Misión de Nuestra Señora de Loreto Conchó

Loreto Mission Bell Tower
We strolled around Plaza Civica for a while, taking photos and enjoying the sights, then continued our westward trek along Avenida Salvatierra. Just beyond Plaza Civica the whole character of the street changes. You’ll know when you get here — it becomes a pedestrian street shaded beneath a series of arched canopies of neatly trimmed vegetation and lined with charming cafés, restaurants, and enchanting shops hawking colorful wares.

Landing in Lovely Loreto

Golden Princess offshore from Loreto, Mexico
We departed La Paz the evening of November 3 and found ourselves anchored off Loreto, Mexico, the following morning. Yes, no large ship docking facilities — another tender port. Between these two ports I would be hard pressed to select a favorite, but Loreto does offer a unique beauty that sets it apart from La Paz.

Whale Shark on a Stick
One option you have here is to swim with the immense whale shark, and several of our shipmates did just that. T...

Today I present one last look at La Paz before we head to Loreto. Click on any image below to bring up today’s slide show and picture captions.

Catedral de Nuestra Señora de La Paz — Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace

La Paz Cathedral
The La Paz Cathedral is only a very short walk from the pier at which the cruise ships dock, and it’s definitely worth the walk. Here’s a sampling of what you’ll see there:

The Buildings of La Paz

Party Place in Yellow
Strolling the streets of La Paz presents one with explosions of color contrasted with the more traditional.

Telling Time
I’ve shown you the faux lighthouse, but here’s another view.

The Light
Don’t think that all the works of art are restricted to the boardwalk area. You’ll find other examples further inland.

Hard Rock
And whereas the boardwalk has a certain look, so too do the shopping streets.

Street Charm

Flowers and Fashion
By the way, if you’re reading this and othe...

Fun Photo Friday — Looking Around La Paz

Party Line
Today I present the little touches that give La Paz so much of its photogenic charm.

Continuing Along the La Paz Boardwalk

La Paz boardwalk, welcome sign, and “lighthouse”
The city of La Paz is a real charmer with much to see and photograph. Even the shoreline has a character all its own.

Along the shore
I hinted on Monday that you would see a gigantic oyster shell and pearl. This is just one of the many pieces of art that decorate the boardwalk.

The pearl of the boardwalk
Across the street from the boardwalk you’ll find brightly painted buildings. Here is a restaurant that was still decorated for Día de Muertos,...

Arriving La Paz, Baja

Very Welcome to La Paz (Peace), Port of Illusion
On Monday, November 3, the Golden Princess arrived off La Paz, Baja California Sur, in the Sea of Cortez. This is not a common cruise ship destination, and neither Ursula nor I had ever been here before so we were quite looking forward to visiting La Paz. We were not disappointed.

Bay of La Paz
Unlike all the other Mexican ports we would visit this cruise, La Paz is not a tender port. You dock just off the city’s boardwalk, which runs along the...

Outrageously Funny Video — “Glock Engineer Interview”
Readers of my firearms posts may have discerned by now my less than enthusiastic response to all things Glock. So, when I stumbled across this “Interview” video with a “Glock Engineer” concerning the “Glock 43,” I just couldn’t help but laugh out loud. It is, of course, one of those bogus “Translation” videos, this time from Spanish and which in reality has absolutely nothing to do with Glocks. There’s another on the Glock 43 using that often-used Hitler Rant scene from the movie Der Untergan...
