“Walker Long is unafraid to rattle cages and provoke—sometimes to the point of excess—but the result is undeniably compelling. This book is perfect for fans of hard science fiction with a rebellious streak, as well as readers who appreciate flawed but fierce female protagonists.”
–Literary Titan Reviews
“A daring and creative science fiction story … Fans of science fiction and feminist literature will find the story’s captivating and ultimately uplifting tale appealing”

Planet of the Creeps
Personally, I felt like the old title really hit on the misogyny, aggression, and cruelty that I was trying to call out with this book. But it seems I was alone in that feeling. Everybody else hated the title. Even people who liked the book, hated the title.
Moreover, many people assumed, based on that original title, that the book was … I guess in favor of rape. Honestly, that was an interpretation I never even thought of. That was a failure of imagination on my part. Given the existence of CNC kinks and dubcon erotica I should have anticipated it.
Of course, even if I had considered that interpretation I’m sure I would have expected reading the description, reading reviews, reading the damn book would clarify things. Instead there has been a sizable contingent of people who hate the title so much they presume to know the book without even reading it. It’s a technique of literary criticism I wasn’t familiar with until now.
Obviously I don’t write for small-minded people. Nevertheless, I’ve realized the original title was a distraction from what I was trying to accomplish with this book. And so, without further ado, I present to you:

New Cover, Same Old Book
When it came time to publish my book Planet of the Rapes, I got in a hurry. I really wanted to get it out before the Presidential election. As a result, I made some bad decisions for the book cover. I used AI generated images, without regard to the wider concerns of creative professionals. But have no fear, a new book cover is here!

I worked with the artist GhostDx who created an exciting image of Olivia, the hero of the book, with the famous ruined Statue of Liberty looming over her. I especially think she captured the beauty, pugnacious spirit, and determination that make Olivia such a memorable character.

Amazon will have the new book cover up whenever they get around to it. I guess the 3 people who ordered the original cover in paperback have got something super rare now! Sure to be a collector’s item after I’m dead. Get in touch and I’ll sign it! You can pass it on to your grandkids (when they’re over 18).

Great in-depth review by Annalise
I just read a really insightful and detailed review of Planet of the Rapes by Annalise, who runs a book blog at annalinereads.com. Check it out!
https://annalisereads.com/planet-of-the-rapes-book-review
A daring and creative science fiction story, Planet of the Rapes blends romance, action, and societal criticism. Olivia Freeh is a compelling heroine whose path is both exciting and thought-provoking. Fans of science fiction and feminist literature will find the story’s captivating and ultimately uplifting tale appealing, despite its contentious title. This book is worth reading if you’re searching for one that defies convention while offering an engrossing journey.

Planet of the Rapes
I began writing this book in 2016. The profoundly disappointing Presidential election that year put me in a dystopian mindset. I stopped work on it — stopped writing entirely — because of a personal setback. But here we are in another profoundly disappointing Presidential election year and another dystopian mindset. I decided to buckle down and get this fucker done by November.
It actually began years before, when I had a half-assed story idea about a male astronaut crash landing on a planet with widespread sexual slavery. He would be kidnapped by a sleazy rich guy and given to his beautiful, young daughter as a gift. There would be some class-based satire and cheap sex fantasy. Not terribly compelling, so I filed that away.
Fast forward a few years and I’m sitting around thinking I should write something based on Planet of the Apes (in a similar vein to Swapship Troopers and The Lesbian, the Bitch, and the Bathrobe, two earlier books of mine). I spitball some ideas. Planet of the Grapes, I think. No, I think, that’s stupid.
Then it hits me: Planet of the Rapes. Ick, I think, what kind of sick planet would that be? Then I realize an unfortunate truth: it wouldn’t be all that different from Earth. The famous surprise ending to Planet of the Apes occurs to me at that point … [Spoiler Alert] … it was Earth all along. The story clicked for me then, but it was honestly a bit too cynical to actually write it. Again, I filed it away.
Some more time goes by. In a turn of events too strange for fiction, a dangerously incompetent television character who proudly brags about sexual assault is elected President of the United States. Suddenly my little idea doesn’t seem so cynical anymore.
It’s a story of a female astronaut, Olivia “Liv” Freeh, who crash lands on a strange, habitable planet where women are bought and sold like property. Liv is betrayed and sold into slavery. She’s given to the youngest son of a sleazy business man as a birthday gift. This young man, however, is kind-hearted and sweet, but lacks the self-confidence to make it in this world of toxic masculinity. A beautiful, strong-willed woman might be exactly what he needs.
