Srinivas taught English at St. Francis College, Secunderabad and Arunachal University (now Rajiv Gandhi University), Itanagar, before joining Centre for the Study of Culture and Society (CSCS), Bangalore in 1998. Over the next 16 years, while his primary affiliation was with CSCS, he held visiting appointments in National University of Singapore, Hokkaido University, Georgetown University, Washington DC, Indian Institute of Science and University of Hyderabad. At CSCS, he became the coordinator of the Centre's Culture Industries and Diversity in Asia (CIDASIA) research programme in 2006.
