B.R.A.G. Medallion
My first historical fiction novel called London Spies has been awarded the B.R.A.G. Medallion for excellence in historical fiction.
This is a huge honor to my book and to me as author and I wanted to spread the news.
For those of you who have read and reviewed my book, thanks for your support. For those who haven't discovered me yet, please do so. An author's work was met to be read and I'd love to make your acquaintance.

Hi there
I'm relatively new to blogging and hope I'm doing it right, but so far, the process seems easy. Let's hope it stays that way.
I wanted to introduce myself. I've been a writer most of my life, although my career was that of public school teacher. Later I worked at community colleges and also did a stint for the Nevada Department of Education in Homeless Literary. I set up literacy sites all over Reno and surrounding areas, including Indian reservations, to help adults with higher education and workplace goals.
It was fulfilling and eventful. I retired early from contract teaching and began giving tutorials about writing and publishing. I've seen such a monumental change in the publishing world over the last ten years that I wanted to share what I've learned with others.
My writing efforts began with articles published in literary journals and a textbook published in 1994. Later I wrote a series of children's books with my sister which are published on all major book distributors. The Floyd Sisters Mysteries are stories loosely based on my sisters and me when we were children. They were fun to write but my writing career turned a corner into western romance.
I've always enjoyed romance novels and since I live in the Wild West, I began writing western romance novels several years ago. Cowboys and ranching have long held my interest and I attend western events in the area to keep fresh.
My writing career evolved to mysteries maybe four years ago. I've long been a fan of Agatha Christie, Sue Grafton and Tony Hillerman, but it was my love for the stories of Sherlock Holmes that began my series called Sherlock and Me about a young sleuth named Lucy James whose hero is Sherlock. The setting is Reno and surrounding areas as Lucy gets into one fix after another.
And then there's historical fiction. As a member of the Floyd family, I have a cousin who was in military intelligence in WWII. Her wartime experiences inspired me to begin a trilogy of stories. Phyllis Bowden begins in London, goes on to Norway and lastly Washington, D.C.
So many things interest me that it may be difficult to brand me as an author. I guess I can say that Jeanne Harrell (my pseudonym) is a western romance author, but branding SJ Slagle in more slippery. My author brand must be mixed with mysteries and historical fiction.
So I hope we can blog about interesting topics together. It's pretty one-sided if it's just me sending postings into the dark cyber space. I would welcome comments and love to hear from one and all.
Nice to meet you!
