Yay! It’s a Surprise Party Giveaway!

Here's the latest from Jami Gold, Paranormal Author :

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been busy putting together a massive project: creating “master lists” of all the writing craft skills we need for story developmentline editing, and copy editing. Yep, I’m a glutton for crazy-making.

Soon, I’ll offer those lists as downloadable checklists for everyone so we can easily keep track of our progress in learning skills. But I’ll come back to that in a minute…

Writing Craft Master Lists: Filling in the Blanks—Participle Phrases

Here's the latest from Jami Gold, Paranormal Author :

Over the past two weeks, I shared my series of huge mega-posts listing every writing craft skill I could think of for story development, line editing, and copy editing.

My goal is to give us a list we can use for learning:

writing craft for drafting our stories self-editing skills how to identify the core issue behind feedback (some feedback is good at finding a problem but trips over how best to fix it) the focus of the different phases...

Writing Craft: Master List of Copy Editing Skills

Here's the latest from Jami Gold, Paranormal Author :

Last week we talked about how to know when we’ve learned enough that we can start our editing process. As we discussed in that post, we all have a natural tendency to underestimate where we are on the learning curve because we don’t know what we don’t know.

That means we might think we’re ready to start our editing process before we really know what we’re doing, which can lead to us wasting time and/or money. Not to mention our endless fru...

Editing Processes: How Do We Improve?

Here's the latest from Jami Gold, Paranormal Author :

No matter our publishing path, our work always needs to go through an editing process. Our process could be any combination of the following options:

We might have an editor(s) at our publisher. We might pay for a freelance editor(s), usually before self-publishing. We might find friends or other writers to beta read. Or at the very least, we need to self-edit.

When are we ready for editing? How will we know? How are those processes abov...

Story Development through Travel and Inspiration — Guest: Kelly Maher

Here's the latest from Jami Gold, Paranormal Author :

One common trait of writers is our attraction to shiny ideas. We’re often hit by the possibilities for our story or our characters (and then debate which way to go) while drafting. Or we might come up with an idea for a different story while drafting our main project. Or, or, or…

We can’t help it. We find inspiration everywhere—in things we read, things we hear, things we see, and things we dream.

The more we experience unique situations a...

Here's the latest from Jami Gold, Paranormal Author :

If you hang out on Facebook, chances are you’ve seen advertising on the site. You might have considered—or have already tried—to run Facebook Ads yourself.

However, for every author who’s been successful with Facebook Ads, dozens more have seen their investment disappear with nothing to show for it. There’s a whole host of tricks and tips to make sure we’re reaching the right audience and framing our message correctly.

I’m not much of a Fa...

Romance and the Language of Consent

Here's the latest from Jami Gold, Paranormal Author :

All too often in my experience, people pick on the romance genre. They think romance stories are silly, or unrealistic, or formulaic, or too girly, or just porn for women.

On the one hand, fans of the genre might disagree. Of course some examples of the genre won’t be stellar—they might be poorly written or have a problematic premise—but the same can be said of any genre.

On the other hand, fans of the genre might agree…and say “So what? W...
