Do’s and Don’ts When Creating Villains — Guest: Kassandra Lamb

Here's the latest from Jami Gold, Paranormal Author :

Our stories are unique. Sometimes our antagonists are faceless (force of nature or bad circumstances), sometimes our characters are their own worst enemy, and sometimes our protagonist is up against someone out to harm them.

But even if our story needs a villain actively working against our characters, we still have choices. Some stories require our villain to be a good person on a bad path with a chance at redemption, and some require a v...

An Authors’ Guide to Creative Commons — Guest: Deborah Makarios

Here's the latest from Jami Gold, Paranormal Author :

With NaNoWriMo wrapping up, many writers will be looking forward to the next step of their publishing journey. Of course we need to edit and revise our work first, but what then?

For many writers, the focus has always been on deciding between the traditional publishing path, with querying and submitting, and the self-publishing path, putting our work up for sale on our own. However, there’s another aspect to publishing that we might not ha...

How Do We Create Realistic Villains? — Guest: Kassandra Lamb

Here's the latest from Jami Gold, Paranormal Author :

Every story requires an antagonist—or at least an antagonistic force—that creates situations and/or circumstances that force the protagonist to take action. Without a conflict from the antagonist, there’s no story, as our protagonist would have no reason to grow or change themselves or to try to change the world or their situation.

In other words, antagonists drive the story.

But while we definitely need some type of antagonist, we get to...

The Best Reason to Blog — 2018 Edition

Here's the latest from Jami Gold, Paranormal Author :

Today is Thanksgiving in the U.S. The day we eat too much food, roll our eyes at the antics of our extended family, and think about all the things we’re grateful for. Or in my case, try not to worry about my pathetic NaNoWriMo word count while I grab a second serving of dessert something healthy. *cough*

This Thanksgiving post—where I express what I’m grateful for when it comes to my blog—is now an annual tradition on my blog:

Eight years...

Is There an Easier Way to Write a Synopsis? — Guest: Romy Sommer

Here's the latest from Jami Gold, Paranormal Author :

One thing I’ve learned about writing over the years is that there’s no “one right way” to do anything in our career. No matter how well any advice works for the advice-giver, our brains, processes, goals, priorities, obstacles, complications, and situations are all different.

I’ve tried to keep that perspective in mind as I write blog posts, give feedback as an editor, and present workshops. That’s one reason I love having guest posters wh...
