The Silent Hours – Foreign Rights News

Very excited to be able to share the news that THE SILENT HOURS will be published in Spain in July 2016!

Circulo de Lectores who publish some amazing books, including this year’s Pulitzer Prize Winner ALL THE LIGHT WE CANNOT SEE by Anthony Doerr, have bought the Spanish rights and I could not be more thrilled that they are publishing the book.

More news to come about other developments but, for now, I hope you have a muchos lovely weekend.

What a difference 1 month makes!

20150704-141314.jpg

On 4th June 2015 THE SILENT HOURS, my debut novel, was officially out in the world and, to be frank, I had no idea what to expect. It is a bizarre feeling when it happens. People are reading, reviewing and discussing your book. They have opinions about the story that was in your head and is now on the pages in front of them. It is very exposing, exciting and surreal. I have loved it.

I am also so grateful to the people who have reviewed it on their blogs or in the national press – to see it nestled alongside names I have admired for years is incredible. It has been featured in: The Sun, The Times, Woman & Home, Out and About Mag and is still no 1 in the Heat Magazine Book Chart which is just fantastic.

Thank you to everyone who has made this first month after publication SUCH fun. It has been, if possible, even more brilliant than I had imagined.

Book Panel at BritMums

I had the most fantastic time at the BritMums conference speaking to wannabe writers, readers and bloggers with authors Abbie Ross (HIPPY DINNERS) and Amanda Jennings (THE JUDAS SCAR). We talked writing tips, inspiration and plotting. I discussed the process of writing THE SILENT HOURS and we looked at the difference between writing fact and fiction.

Thank you to all those who came along to hear us speak and to BritMums for inviting me. X

WIN a copy of THE SILENT HOURS

Head over to Goodreads to try and win 1 of only 5 copies of my debut novel THE SILENT HOURS. Link here:

https://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/show/139144-the-silent-hours

Based on a shocking true story during WWII it is a ‘Book Club’ read for any fans of historical fiction.

Blurb: The Silent Hours follows three people whose lives are bound together, before war tears them apart: Adeline, a mute who takes refuge in a convent, haunted by memories of her past; Sebastien, a young Jewish banker whose love for the beautiful Isabelle will change the course of his life dramatically; Tristan, a nine-year-old boy, whose family moves from Paris to settle in a village that is seemingly untouched by war.

Beautifully wrought, utterly compelling and with a shocking true story at its core, The Silent Hours is an unforgettable portrayal of love and loss.

Blogger Event at Books and the City

Earlier this week I spent a lovely evening at the offices of S&S hearing from a panel of their fabulous authors.

It was great to hear sample chapters read from their books. I was particularly interested in Iona Grey ‘LETTERS TO THE LOST’ which is another 2015 debut set in the Second World War. She read a touching scene from the book which was full of atmosphere and romance.

Then it was time to mingle with bloggers and other authors. Heat Magazine’s Isabelle Broom was there (left) with Hannah Beckerman (right) author of ‘THE DEAD WIFE’S HANDBOOK’. There were a lot of Twitter avatars come to life and lots of bookish chat.

Thank you to S&S for the invite and here is to bookish fun!

Twists and Turns – New Vlog

Hello pretties!

It’s my weekly vlog and this week it is on TWIS…

Wait, my finger slipped, here is a photo of me with proofs of my debut novel THE SILENT HOURS. This has been an amazing moment!

Right, back to this week’s vlog, and it’s a cracker. We’re thinking about how to create TWISTS AND TURNS in your book. How to surprise the reader. How to make them sit up and think, “OOOH.”

I hope you enjoy it: https://www.writersandartists.co.uk/writers/videos-and-podcasts/view/785/write-with-week-sixteen-twists-and-turns

How can we create characters your reader really cares about?

We all want to write characters that our readers fall in love with. We want to write memorable, exciting characters with flaws and interesting traits. We want them to be realistic, we want them to be multi-faceted. We also need to empathise with them and this week’s vlog is exploring how we can do that.

Enjoy!
