Join Colm Tóibín (The Master, Brooklyn) as he presents The Magician, an intimate portrait of author Thomas Mann, alongside the Viano String Quartet’s performance of Beethoven’s Opus 132, which plays a central role in the novel.
Thomas turned to the violinist, who asked him why he had especially wanted Opus 132.
“For the third movement,” he said.
“I like the idea of Neue Kraft fühlend.”
“Do you feel new strength?”
“When I think of the book I must write, I do. Or I hope I do.”
