Like a Phoenix

An Isolated Storm is going to be re-released! It will be full of the same poetry, lightly edited, but with a beautiful new cover for the second edition! The new edition will be released on the first day of summer this year, June 20th, 2016.

Immediately following will be a giveaway, but if anyone has any other suggestions or requests for what I should be doing leading up to this release, let me know!

Here's a poem from this collection as a little teaser...

Sunshowers

A singular event—
a fox wedding rain,
where the sun shines through
and the drizzle
just barely kisses
the curve of the leaves.
If you had a choice you would pause here.
If you had a choice,
you would run wildly.

An Isolated Storm news

As of today, An Isolated Storm is no longer being associated with Flutter Press and is being taken down. The book itself isn't being entirely discontinued, but my association with Flutter Press is ceasing as of today. I appreciate everyone's support.

Writing Update

I posted this to tumblr a few days ago, but thought I'd include the Goodreads community. :)

So my book is… out of my hands now. It’s out being beta read and I’m going to let that be it for it until I collect some feedback.

That’s not to say I’m just letting this first book go. I’m going to come up with a really fantastic summary for it and begin the querying process since the book is, effectively, complete (until other people are able to point out the glaring flaws and guide me back in the right direction). I’m sure querying will be a long process, but I’m not a complete stranger to it, since I’ve been sending out poetry for over five years now.

Speaking of poetry, my full length poetry book is complete. It’s been revised, read by a third party, re-revised, and I’m trying to publish it. However, I don’t want to go the route I did last time.

I’m looking for publishers who have a good reputation, pay well, and distribute/advertise aggressively. I’m really going to try to put myself out there with this one and try for the very best.

At the moment my collection (which is called Museum) has been sent to one publisher who fits those criteria and my fingers are crossed that I ever hear back. I’m going to keep researching and find some more places to try to pitch this collection to.

As for my fantasy series, I plan to plot the second book out fully before November and get a good first draft cranked out for NaNoWriMo this year. I may end up being ambitious and cranking it out for July, but definitely count on it for November. I’m excited to introduce Rowan and The Magicians to my pirate crew and their Queen. :D

Until then, there is more poetry to write, more short stories I’d like to get back to revising including a short story tie-together collection that was far too ambitious for past-me, but which may begin coming together soon.

I’ll keep posting poems and things like I have been, but let me know if there’s anything more (or less) you’d like to see from me! And don’t forget to let me know what you thought of An Isolated Storm if you’ve done me the great honor of having read it. :) It has 9 ratings and 5 reviews on Goodreads and I’d really love to see those ratings go up to 10! Or 20! :)

Thank you, as always, for your patience and support!

I have a website!

I just wanted to make a post to let everyone know that I've created a website on wordpress, https://kayespivey.wordpress.com/

It's not really a blog or anything yet, just a fancy resume and a work-in-progress, but it has some pictures of my cats and some info about the novel I'm working on and as I get closer to publishing my full-length poetry book there will be information about that there, so check it out! It also has links to my other social media accounts.

If you're still interested in reading An Isolated Storm and haven't picked up a copy yet, remember that it's now available on Kindle! http://www.amazon.com/Isolated-Storm-...
Or you can still order a copy from Createspace if you're like me and prefer to have a physical copy. https://www.createspace.com/5315011

On a related note, National Poetry Month is coming up! Does anyone have any plans for celebrating poetry/poets this April?

I have some other exciting news now that the giveaway has wrapped up. Starting now, An Isolated Storm will be available for Kindle! I hope this makes the book more accessible to everyone. Please let me know what you think of it, and thank you so so much to everyone who has left reviews of An Isolated Storm! Welcome to 2016!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Giveaway for An Isolated Storm in December! A winner has been chosen and a copy is on its way to them right now. Congratulations and thank you so much for your interest!

If you did not win and are interested in getting a copy for yourself, books are available on both createspace and amazon.

Also, this giveaway was so successful I'm considering doing one for the 1 year anniversary of An Isolated Storm's publishing date, so keep an eye out around Valentine's Day for another shot.

Thank you once more to everyone for your interest in my poetry book and Happy New Year!
