Exclusive interview with Michael Pogach!

Hey folks,

We're lucky to get an interview with the author of The Spider and the Laurel, which is a dystopian science fiction novel about an archaeologist investigating religious artifacts in an atheist tyranny. Unfortunately, for both Believers and otherwise, the supernatural is not really what either side believes. You can read my review of the novel here.

1. So tell us about The Spider and the Laurel

The Spider in the Laurel is my first novel. It started with a simple idea: Drop a guy...

Cthulhu Armageddon paperback and Wraith Knight now available!

I'm pleased to say that the paperback version of Cthulhu Armageddon is now available for purchase. Those who want to visit the raw and dangerous land of the Massachusetts Wasteland can now enjoy it in paper format.

I'm also pleased to say both the ebook and physical copy versions of Wraith Knight are now available for sale as well. If you've ever wondered what happens after a typical Fantasy Dark LordTM is defeated as well as how the various factions will deal with one another then Wrait...

Exclusive interview with Bobby Derie!

Heya folks,

I've got a great interview with Bobby Derie, author of SEX AND THE CTHULHU MYTHOS. Which, sadly, is not a book about the benefits of cross-interspecies mating but an analysis of the handling of the role of sex, gender, and relationships in the works of Howard Phillips Lovecraft as well as his immediate successors.

Honestly, the book is one of the better H.P. Lovecraft nonfiction volumes I've read and is full of careful research on a subject a lot of people have thoughts on but few h...

Black City Saint review

Richard K. Knaak was first introduced to me during my early days as a fantasy fan with the 1988 novel, The Legend of Huma. I didn't get to red it until I was about ten (1990) but in my limited experience, it was probably the best of the Dragonlance novels.

When I re-read it in college, my opinion was cemented and if you ever wanted to read the Dragonlance saga then I recommend the two main trilogies as well as it. Later, I would enjoy Richard K. Knaak's Wo...

Update for 11/15/2016

Hey folks,

It's been a good month for books and a bad month personally. My poor father had to be checked into the hospital and is likely to suffer the loss of a leg. He's suffering from infections which have reached his bone and the treatments just haven't done very much for making sure it gets it out of his system. Vibes, well-wishes, prayers, and so on are appreciated. On the cheerier side of things, my wife and I just had our 6th wedding anniversary! I'm very blessed to have had her presenc...

Cast a Deadly Spell review

HBO's 1991 made-for-tv movie Cast A Deadly Spell is weird. It's not even close to being as weird as a David Lynch film but it's the kind of weird you'd more typically find on the shelf of the speculative fiction shelf of a bookstore (remember those?). It starts with the premise it's a noir detective story set Hollywood in the late 1940s, except magic is everywhere, and the Great Old Ones of H.P. Lovecraft are real.

    Okay.

    The funny thing i...

Great review of CTHULHU ARMAGEDDON by the Grimdark Alliance

 Hey folks,

I thought I'd share this awesome review of Cthulhu Armageddon by the Grimdark Alliance. I love these guys, they do an amazing job reviewing the best of grimdark fiction. I also love the comparisons they made to Fallout, Rust, and Mad Max.

If you’re a video gamer and enjoy the likes of Bethesda’s Fallout, Rust, or movies like Mad Max, you’re going to want to step into C.T. Phipps’ world of Cthulhu Armageddon. Phipps creates a post-apocalyptic world where the United States...

Doctor Strange (2016) review

Truth be told, I wasn't looking forward to this one. Not because I don't like Doctor Strange, I love the character, it was instead due to the fact the Marvel Cinematic Universe has felt rather bloated of late. There's a lot going on and I also felt Doctor Strange was a bit too much of a paradigm shift for the setting. Having focused so extensively on sci-fi elements, it seemed like adding magic would feel like too much of a change.

    One thing I wasn't worri...

The Trials of Obed Marsh by Matthew Davenport review

The Shadow over Innsmouth is probably Lovecraft's most famous story after The Call of Cthulhu and certainly the most influential. Most readers of horror know the basic outline and almost all Lovecraft fans. A New England town has taken to worshiping Dagon and breeding with Deep Ones in exchange for gold as well as fish. This is due to a centuries-old compact between the Deep Ones and humans negotiated by Obed Marsh. How a man could become involved in such a monstrous Fausti...
