First Time on the First- October Thrills

So zombies...
Yeah, the undead brain eaters who have a rather severe skin condition and scare the bejeebers out of me- those ghouls...

I finally read my first zombie book. It was gruesome and I might have squicked out a few times, but I made it through. Don't expect me to break out in a rage of zombie books, though. Not that I'm saying it was a one and done because never say never and all that, but won't be new theme in my regular repertoire either.

In case your curious, Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion was my zombie book du jour. It was an engaging read and I was vested from cover to cover though through the 'dining experiences' I was definitely reading with a hand over my eyes. ;)
Warm Bodies (Warm Bodies, #1) by Isaac Marion
I understand there is a movie adaption- and no, that will not be happening anytime soon for me.

But another first. I wanted to talk about my first time experiencing High Fantasy as an adult. This occurred five years ago.
As a child, I loved reading JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis and some others, but I didn't read fantasy as an adult until I stumbled upon Michelle Franklin's Haanta series (when I say stumbled, I mean Amazon did one of those if you liked X, then you'll like Y sort of thing).
The Commander And The Den Asaan Rautu (Haanta #1) by Michelle Franklin
I read The Commander and the Den Asaan Rautu and it was captivating- giants, elves, magic, humans, a fantasy world, war, intrigue, and the wit, folks! I loved the wry humor and wit pervading the short piece.
I've heard Michelle Franklin's fantasy stories described as Austenesque and I can really see why.

Tales from Frewyn Short Stories from the Haanta Series Vol. 1 by Michelle Franklin Khantara Volume 1 by Michelle Franklin Tales from Frewyn The Opera by Michelle Franklin Tales from Frewyn Volume 2 by Michelle Franklin Frewyn Fables The House Guest by Michelle Franklin The Leaf Flute - A Marridon Novella by Michelle Franklin

I went on to read a couple collections of Tales from this world and all the short stories Michelle Franklin posted on her blog. I might add that her cohort in bringing the Haanta-verse to living color, Twisk, made the fantastic covers and art renderings of the characters.

I just finished her latest release of the follow up to The Leaf Flute, The Baracan, and was delighted as ever. The Baracan A Marridon Novella by Michelle Franklin

So are zombies your thing? Got a favorite zombie read?

What about high fantasy? Do you have an all-time must read there for me?
