The End

I typed those two lovely words on my fourth novel just yesterday. I cannot even begin to tell you all how much those words mean to me. I struggled through Here’s to Now since day one. Gaige has always been fickle. Telling his story was tough. But, I did it. Finally.

Tomorrow I start on self edits, then move on to beta reads, and finally professional edits. I still have a long road ahead, but the book is done, and that’s the hardest part since you can’t edit a blank page.

This is probably the shortest blog post ever, but I’m in the mood to celebrate! So I’m going to go enjoy a PSL and probably something else naughty I shouldn’t eat.

See ya around!

Goodbye, Summer. Hello, Fall!

It’s Labor Day, the day dubbed as the “End of Summer.” And I’m okay with that.

Did you know Autumn is my FAVORITE time of year? Outside it’s gorgeous and the temperatures drop to those levels where it’s. Just. Right. Everything feels amazing against your skin. Fresh and new. The smell of bonfires and pumpkin spice and that special scent Fall has permeates. Fall is intoxicating to me. It’s always been the one time of year I look forward to the most.

Another reason? I love Halloween. A lot. The colors, the creepiness, the fun scares, the costumes. All of it. I’ve always lived out in the middle of nowhere where kids never rang the bell for candy. But this year? It’s on, and I’m so excited for it! (Strange, I know.)

This is also the time of year I get to watch my absolute favorite movie, The Nightmare Before Christmas. Some argue it’s a Christmas movie and some argue it’s Halloween. For me, it’s both. And you won’t sway me on that. I also enjoy re-watching The Crow for the millionth time, which is undoubtedly a Halloween movie. However, I refuse to watch any scary movies because I enjoy sleep.

So while everyone is sad to wish away the Summer, I say bring on Fall! Bring on the pumpkin spice lattes, the fresh scents of pies and other goodies. The earthy, cozy smell only Fall has. The hoodies and bonfires and early sunsets. I’m beyond ready!

Now, here’s the thing: I live somewhere new for the first time in my life. I’m experiencing Fall in a whole new setting. It makes me a little nervous and I think for the first time I may miss “home,” but I’m optimistic North Carolina won’t disappoint. As long as it rains so I can curl up on my chaise lounge with a cup of coffee and a good book while I play sad music in the background, I’m sold.

Okay, that’s all I have for this week. I love Labor Day because it means Summer is out and Fall is in, even though we still technically have 17 days of Summer left. Whatever. It’s Fall to me.

I’m headed to the beach today to soak up some fun with the sMother before she heads back home tomorrow. Enjoy your day off!

August 29, 2016

I fell in love with a pair of shoes.

And it’s not in the way you’re thinking.

See, I recently had the absolute pleasure of reading a gripping, emotional, beautiful, and thoroughly stunning novel called Hawthorne & Heathcliff by R.K. Ryals.

GUYS. Go. Buy. This. Seriously. I haven’t read something so moving and so captivating since…well, since I read It Ends With Us earlier this year. (Yes, it’s THAT good.)

It all starts with a pair of shoes. And they aren’t even a fabulous duo. They’re plain, normal, worn, and well-loved. But the person those shoes belong to? That person is the exact opposite. I don’t want to give away anything with this book, but just know I was highlighting like crazy, which is something I NEVER do, and I could not put it down. I mean, I did for a night (because sleep), but then it was all I could think about. How were the shoes doing? Where were they going? Were they being taken care of? Were they learning? Falling? Finding love? It was an endless cycle of questions in my head, questions I needed answered. R.K. Ryals delivered.

I’ve never read anything by this author before, but I can promise you that Hawthorne & Heathcliff will not be my last book by this wildly talented author. In fact, R.K. released a new novel yesterday called Capture the World, a novel I one-clicked without even caring what it’s about. I must have more of her words. MUST.

Other than reading this fantastic novel, I spent my week writing, continuing my re-watch of SPN with the Marine, and cleaning my house because my sMother is coming to town this upcoming weekend. (YAY…but don’t tell her I said that.)

Now, I know some of you are wondering where the hell Gaige is. Truth is, this man is hard to write. I have never struggled so much with a character before. He’s quiet then loud, soft then demanding. It’s been a push and pull throughout the entire process. But, I’m working on him. I promise. I do still plan to have him to you this Fall (hey, Fall technically doesn’t end until December 20th), so at least that’s something. I know it’s been over six months since I released something, and I’m so sorry about that, but I’m hoping to have several releases next year because I plan to work on a few novellas after I get done with Gaige.

That’s all I have for now. I’ll see ya next Monday!

(BTW…I only gave up on the last novel I was reading for just a wee little bit. It was REALLY difficult to get through with all the flooding in Louisiana. Made me too sad to read it and still enjoy it, but I do plan on picking it up again.)

Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes!

CURRENT READ: The Last Boy and Girl in the World by Siobhan Vivian

GENRE: Young Adult

PROGRESS: 118/419

THOUGHTS SO FAR: It’s good, but as you can see I’ve been sucking at reading.

This weekend I went to visit my “other husband” (who is the Marine’s best friend and is in the Navy) up in Virginia Beach. It’s just a quick drive North so we try to rotate our visits every couple months. This time it was our turn to drive up and we decided to attend another roller derby match. Guys, do you have any idea how much fun this is?! A BLAST! I’ve only watched two matches, but OMG! I love it! It’s fast paced, gritty, and hard to look away from. I’ve been researching some teams around our area so I can go support them. (I also scored a free piece of pizza at the match!)

Other than that, the weekend was nice and full of random/weird YouTube videos and laughs galore per usual.

So, I haven’t talked about this much—or at all really—but I’ve been undergoing a health change. A few months ago I tried out The Wilder Way from Jasinda Wilder’s book Big Girls Do It RunningWhile I love the book, the message, and the program, it just wasn’t working for me for various reasons. (Note: It’s nothing to do with Jasinda’s program, this was all personal.) Instead, I’ve been following a woman named Arielle who I discovered via this awesome, informative, and REAL Buzzfeed post. I adore her. Like seriously adore her. I can relate to her on SO many levels and I love her posts on her IG and Tumblr. Since following her, I’ve been tracking my food, setting daily non-scale goals (NSG), and have seen a drop in weight, and an increase in my energy—all while still eating the foods I love. She does attribute a lot of the weight she’s lost to Weight Watchers, a program I’m not on and may try, but I believe her real-life and easy approach is also a huge factor in her success. There’s not a huge, HUGE difference between her plan and The Wilder Way, but I simply find this one easier to relate to, which is why I believe it’s working for me.

In addition to changing my eating, I’ve also been walking 2 miles a couple times a week. (I had initially tracked it with my PokémonGo app and thought it was about a mile but it turns out it’s way more!) I plan to up this to 3 miles and then more as the weeks progress. So far I feel more mentally aware on the days I walk and more relaxed. I also find it easier to sleep at night, which is so important for me because I usually tend to have a hard time falling asleep and staying that way.

OH! Here’s to Yesterday turned ONE on the 19th (my Marine’s birthday). I cannot believe it’s already been a year since I released Maura into the world. It’s still my favorite book of mine yet. Her growth is beautiful and inspiring even to me. If you haven’t read it yet, you can grab it from Amazon for just $2.99.

#Winning

This is two weeks in a row I’ve done a blog post. I have officially set a new record.

*mic drop*

CURRENT READ: The Last Boy and Girl in the World by Siobhan Vivian

GENRE: Young Adult

PROGRESS: 60/419

THOUGHTS SO FAR: I dig Keeley.

Other than writing, working, and reading, I’ve spent most of the week at home with my pup Lucian. My husband, who as you all know is an active duty Marine, has these weird shifts where he’s gone a lot one week and home more often the next. This was a “gone a lot” week. Don’t worry, we’ve still had enough time together to catch Pokemon and continue our billionth re-watch of SPN (we’re on season 5, episode 11).

I realized yesterday that Friday will be the 1 year anniversary for Here’s to Yesterday. One. Year. Already! How is that even possible? I feel like it was just yesterday (ha, get it?!) I released Maura into the world. I love her. Have I told you that before? Love. Her. Her story is my favorite so far. It’s so…sad. Yet beautiful. And real. That book had a lot of my favorite scenes in it too. A few phrases, even the response to the opening line, came straight from my husband’s mouth. I think I may write him into my characters just a touch too much. #noregrets

Did I tell you guys I have a reader group on Facebook? It’s fun! I try to stay active in there and post exclusive content (they even got a glimpse of the cover for Here’s to Now), so it’s definitely a place you want to be.

Oh! Does anyone watch The Fosters? I recently started it and I’m a little addicted. It’s so cheesy sometimes and the acting isn’t the greatest, but damn do I love it. Lena and Stef are amazing parents, and oddly enough I already have a story planned out with similar parents. (It’ll be down the line a bit. I think.)

Okay, that’s all I have. Today is my birthday and I’m going to go eat some cake for breakfast.

August 8, 2016

Yes, I’m still alive.

It has officially been way too long since I’ve done a blog post. I’m terrible at them if you can’t tell.

So, what have I been up to?

Well, writing. And lots of it. Kind of. (Hey, we’re all entitled to our off days!) I’m over the 50k mark in Here’s to Now, Gaige’s book. If this follows the length of my other novels, I have about 30k-ish more to write. However, now that Gaige is talking, he doesn’t want to shut up. I’m not saying this novel will go beyond my “normal” word count, but there’s a possibility.

Other than working on Gaige, I have penned (or typed, whatever) a few words here and there in an unannounced novella part of an unannounced novella series I’m doing with a ton of other authors. AND, I’ve been working a little on an untitled YA novel that’s outside of the type of happy books I write. It’s going to be more emotional than I’m used to and is going to touch on a rather tough, controversial issue, but I’m hoping it’ll be fantastic.

That’s about it going on in my little corner of the writing world. I’ve been busy updating things here and there on the site and have contemplated opening up a little store on Society6, but haven’t decided just yet. (Thoughts?) I have been reading some. I DEVOURED the Forbidden Men Series by Linda Kage. You NEED to read it. Now. It’s 8 books long and soooo good! I also read Up in the Treehouse by K.K. Allen (LOVED!), It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover (I can’t even express how I feel about this book), and I’m currently reading (and mostly enjoying) the YA Even When You Lie to Me by Jessica Alcott.

Oh! I’m attending my first signing this October in Boise, ID. If you’re going, PLEASE stop by and say hi. I’m super excited to meet some readers. Grab your tickets if you haven’t yet.

So, yeah, that’s all I have. Go follow my social media pages to keep up with my day-to-day life. I post random stuff, pretty pictures of coffee, and give out teasers for Here’s to Now.

Here’s to Forever Cover Reveal!

HTF_400px.jpg

OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS:

Moments are fickle. Sometimes all you get is a split second to make a decision. Other times you have what seems like an eternity and what you think is the right choice could be the biggest mistake you ever make.

Rae Kamden and Hudson Tamell have lived in a perfect bubble since the day their relationship was almost destroyed. They’ve laughed, smiled, loved, and moved on from all that has weighed them down in the past. Or so they thought.

After almost a year of bliss, things have suddenly shifted for the worse. Lies are being told, questions are gone unanswered, and nothing is as it should be. Can they mend their relationship and move forward together? Or will they give up on what they thought was their forever?

Here’s to Yesterday is LIVE!

I…I published another book. Oh. My. Gosh. I feel like David After Dentist! (Still the best video ever!)

So, if you need something to read, I know where you can get a good book. *wink*

HTY_Live

Can Maura overcome her perfect image and finally be true to herself and her heart?

You ever realize that what you’re doing and where you are in life isn’t where you’re supposed to be?

I did.

My name is Maura Doughers. I’m perfect. I have the ideal soldier boyfriend and all the money a twenty-two year old girl could dream of. My life is just like it should be. But it’s nothing close to what I want.

I’m beginning to realize the person I am isn’t who I’m meant to be….and maybe the person I’m with isn’t the one for me. Is what I feel love or lust? I don’t know…

What I really want is forbidden and most certainly not something my parents would approve of. But what about me? What about what I want?

Well, I’m about to get it. No matter the consequences.

AVAILABLE NOW

Amazon  |  Amazon UK  |  Barnes and Noble  |  Kobo  |  iBooks

Here’s to Yesterday is the second book in the Here’s To series. Each book will be about a different couple and can be read as a standalone.
