2 Years

Today marks two years since I published my first novel, Here’s to Tomorrow.

On one hand I can’t believe it. On the other, I can. These last two years have flown by at the same pace they’ve crawled. Makes no sense, I know. But it’s true.

I’ve learned so much since I first hit publish, made countless friends, and met a few readers. I’ve published 2 full-length novels, a novella, and I’m getting  ready to publish another novella on February 16th. 5 books. That’s four more than I had two years ago, and I can’t believe it.

I feel like I’ve been so blessed these last two years and it’s because of you, the reader. You’re what has kept me going. Your support and words of encouragement, every time you give me a shout-out or tell me to shut up about Supernatural. All of it. I’m still here because of you. So, thank you. Thanks for taking a chance on me and for taking this insane journey with me. There’s no one else I’d rather take it with.

I see you. ❤

P.S. I haven’t mentioned this anywhere yet, but I plan to rehaul the cover for Here’s to Tomorrow and have it re-edited and republish it sometime this year. I’m almost certain I’ll be adding some bonus content as well.

We Are the Stars Cover Reveal

It’s FINALLY here! I am SO in LOVE with this cover!

SYNOPSIS:

The first time I saw Carsen Wheatley, I flipped him off.

The second time, I kneed him in the balls.

The third? I kissed him.

Why? Because Carsen needed it.

Angry and full of hate, Carsen is a lost soul, searching. Since the death of his mother, he’s cold and isolated, needing someone to fill the gap she left wide open, someone to kiss the anger from his soul.

That’s where I come in.

I’m restless, on the search for a new adventure, something to make me feel…well, anything. I’m certain I’ll find a permanent fix soon, but in the meantime, I have this summer job and Carsen to keep me going.

But the summer is only temporary, and so is the fix.

We are imperfect.

We are mismatched.

We are the stars.

My First Book Signing

Last week’s blog was dedicated to the Here’s to Now cover reveal (my favorite of the series, by the way) so I didn’t get a chance to talk about the very first signing I attended as an author: Boise Book Fest.

Initial Thoughts:

Omg. Holy shit. MY FIRST SIGNING.

The day we left for Boise we had to be up at 3am and on the road by 3:30. After a two hour drive where I had to drive (and I am HORRIBLE at driving in the dark) because the Marine broke his glasses the night before, we finally made it to the Raleigh-Durham airport with about ten minutes to spare. We skidded into our seats and settled down for a five hour flight. Cool. Time to read.

We land in SanFran. We get delayed. Then we get delayed again. And again. Our flight was supposed to leave at 10:40am. It didn’t leave until after 3pm. I was beyond done with airports at this point but I wasn’t going to let it get to me. I had a fun dinner planned with my friends ahead.

Thoughts Once I Arrived in Boise:

I smell like airport. Oh crap! I need to set up my table!

The rest of the night was full of fun and laughter and so many great memories. I had dinner with Sara Ney, Shirl Rickman, Kristann Monaghan, BFF, Andee Michelle, Andrea Johnston (my lovely tablemate), Cathlin Shahriary, and M.E. Carter. I love my book people, especially my #soulmate. We had dinner at some amazing restuarant that started with a B that I can’t pronounce but the food was GREAT. The portions were insanely huge and worth every penny. I’d recommend it but I can’t remember the dang name! OH! I also rode in my very first Uber and didn’t die.

Thoughts on Signing Day:

Omg. Holy shit. MY FIRST SIGNING. I need coffee. And food. CRAP. I have to people. I’m horrible people-ing. Whatever. I got this shit.

The siging? Awesome! I had so much fun! I got A TON of compliments on my covers and even chatted with Rachel Van Dyken (eeeppp…she is AMAZING) some. The readers who stopped by my table were so nice and encouraging. AND, I sold books! (I really went into it with some low expectations because, hey, newbie here.) I even got to meet a wonderful reader, Amanda, who is a part of Teagan’s Tidbits, my reader group.

The Marine had a blast too. This was his first book related event and he had no idea what to expect. I warned him that my friends could be a little overwhelming but he wasn’t too worried about it. He fell in love with #soulmate and her BFF instantly and I’m fairly certain we’ll be making a trip to Arizona soon to visit them.

Priya, the lovely woman who put together and hosted this event, did SUCH a fantatsic job! I would love to be able to attend another one of her events in the future.

I’m sure you’re wondering where all my pictures are because everyone takes pics at signings. Yeah? Not me. I’m HORRIBLE at them. Also, I’m a very “in the moment” type of person and hardly ever take photos. But, I just trolled the Boise Book Fest website and found this gem of me and my Marine. (Sorry you have to see this. I’m so awkward in photos.)

boisebookfest

He’s such a cutie!

That’s all I have. The event was a blast, and I can’t wait for my next one.

I’m getting ready to send Here’s to Now off for formatting and then the release is less than 3 weeks away. Eeekk! In the meantime, I’m working on that untitled novella I told you about a couple weeks ago. And yes, I’m still loving it.

P.S. Excited for Here’s to Now? Pre-order it on Amazon today!

“You break everything you touch!”

I feel like that’s me lately.

If you follow my Facebook page you probably read that I lost my wedding ring set. Yes, the entire set. Engagement ring and band. I. Am. Devastated. It’s been about a week and half since it happened, but I still look for my rings every day, and I have yet to find them.

That same day I looked down at my promise ring my husband bought me 9 years ago. Guess what I saw? A stone missing. UGH!

Last week, a couple days after I lost my rings, I burned dinner. Like, all of it. Luckily my husband ate it anyway. But, I mean, come on! That was twice in about three days I screwed up royally.

Then, just yesterday, I was going in for a cute Instagram shot, right? Placed my Kindle and Starbucks cup, lined up the shot, snapped the pic, and…LOST MY BALANCE! And fell right into our GLASS table. Shattered not only the table, but my pride.

The worst part? Those are just a FEW examples of how many times I’ve screwed up. I’ve lost design files, deleted important documents, and have just been all over the place with everything.

I swear, my husband is a freakin’ saint because not once over the last week and a half has he complained or been upset over what’s happened. He shakes his head, gives me a hug, and tells me, “You’re a mess, but you’re my mess.”

And this, my friends, is why I write my boys the way I write them.

Anyway, today I’m going to try and not break or burn or lose anything and write a little more of Elliott and Carsen’s story.

P.S. The title of this blog is a quote from a show. Do you know which one?

What Happens Next?

After I finish a novel, this includes self edits, I usually take some time off between then and the release. I try to decompress from that story before I properly begin another. (I say properly because I did write the prologue to Here’s to Now the moment I finished Here’s to Yesterday. But it wasn’t really me writing, ya know?)

This time, I didn’t do that. I had a celebratory dinner, worked, and then… Yesterday I started a new book. I believe it’s going to be a novella, but that could easily change. The characters are younger than I’ve had before, but it’s still a New Adult novel. It’s not directly related to the Here’s To series, but it is set in Wakefield, MA. AND, you’ve kind of (like, this is an extremely small kind of) already met the hero. (He works at Vern’s Diner…think Here’s to Yesterday.)

Anyway, this is something new for me. New characters, new dialogues, new…everything. Almost. And I’m terribly excited about it. I don’t have a blurb and I won’t give out any information regarding the plot, but I will give you the main characters names.

Carsen Wheatley and Elliott Mathers

I’m just over 3k into it, but I already love Elliott. She’s fun, spunky, and a little wild. Carsen is not. Not even a little bit, and with good reason. But that’s all I’m going to say. I’m *hoping* to release this early next year, so away I go to write a little bit.

Have a good week!

P.S. The release date for Gaige? 11/11.

What SPN Means to Me

I think by now the entire world knows how obsessed I am with Supernatural (SPN). I post about it often, have a SPN phone case (thank you D.B. James!), wear my SPN pajamas as often as possible, and I devour at least an episode a day…no joke!

If you’ve never watched the show I’m certain you’re thinking… But why?

Easy. To me it’s not just a television show filled with ghosts and ghouls and hunting. It’s a show about family and what that entails. In fact, one of my favorite quotes from the show is from episode 3×16, “Family don’t end with blood.” Then later there’s a quote from episode 10×17 that says, “A wise man once told me, ‘family don’t end in blood.’ But it doesn’t start there either.

Family. SPN is about family. It’s about that bond you create with people, the one you make that’s so strong you consider yourselves family. It’s about having someone’s back no matter what. And since I just finished Season 11 last night, I stick by that more than ever. I can watch this show daily (and I do) because of those sometimes too dependent relationships, but mostly because even if it seems borderline unhealthy in the way the Winchesters are always there to save one another, it still hits you right in the feels. They’ll do anything for their family. And they have, multiple times. I guess that’s why the show’s fandom is called the #SPNFamily.

But it’s not all about family and feeling your heart constrict every time that single tear streaks down Dean’s face. Or when Sammy’s nose starts to flare and you know he’s trying everything he can to hold back his tears. No, it’s a show with humor, horror, and true emotions. It’ll make you question things you’ve always (or never) believed in. It’ll make you want to reach out and hug your sibling a little tighter. You’ll root for the bad guys and the good guys. Hell, you’ll probably tear up every single time you here Kansas on the radio because you want those boys to have peace when they’re done. And by the end of Season 5, you’ll come to realize that family doesn’t always end in blood, but it doesn’t start there either.

It’s a show that’s consumed me and breaches my life in so many ways. And I don’t regret it one damn bit.
