Face Off Excerpt
“This is… Wow.”
“I told you,” Lawson says, coming to stand behind me. The heat radiating off him negates the iciness of the window. “It’s breathtaking, isn’t it?”
“It truly is. I’ve lived in the PNW for a long time now, but I’ve never seen a view like this.”
“Then you really need to get out more.”
“Says the guy who’s always on the road.”
“Hey, when I have downtime, I spend it out exploring. I hiked over a hundred miles during the summer.”
“Seriously?” I ask, finally tearing my eyes away from the picturesque view in front of me, letting them linger only momentarily on the hot tub I intend to take full advantage of while I’m here.
“Yep. I have to keep in shape somehow.” He pats his stomach, which I know is perfectly cut. “Plus, it keeps me out of trouble.”
“I thought you liked trouble, Lawless.” He cringes, and I laugh. “Only you could get away with not one but two ridiculous names.”
He shrugs. “It’s a gift.”
“Hmm. Something like that.” I turn back to look out the window. “So, what are we going to do first? Skinny-dipping in the hot tub, right?” His jaw drops in his reflection and I laugh, turning around to pat his shoulder. “I’m kidding, Lawson. I’m not skinny-dipping with you. I brought a bathing suit.”
I walk past him, grabbing my bag and heading for the stairs to find my bedroom.
“Oh, and, Lawson?” I call down where he’s standing frozen by the window.
“Yeah?”
“It’s a two-piece.”

Sneak Peak at Best Friends For Never
I waltz into the grocery store with a grin, wave to Peggy behind the front counter, who gives me a curt nod, and then head straight for the wine aisle.
If I hadn’t taken that sweet, sweet nap, I would have had more time to peruse the bottles and find us something fun and new to try, but now I’m going to play it safe and grab an old favorite.
Looks like Axel is getting his precious red wine, after all.
I grab the brand I know he loves, then a bottle of white I love just to mess with him and turn toward the front.
Only there’s nowhere to go, and I smack straight into something hard.
When did Peggy put a wall here?
Did I get turned around?
“Shit.”
It’s one word.
One single, tiny word.
And it’s enough to rock my entire world.
I tip my head back, looking up, up, up, and right into the eyes of someone I once thought would be in my life forever.
Into the eyes of someone I was wrong about. Someone I haven’t seen for ten years.
Right into the ocean eyes of Noel Carter, my former best friend.
And the boy who broke my heart.
