My Response to DIY Shamanism

A dynamic I see often brought up in shamanism forums is the projection that shamanism is and should be DIY, or it's not authentic. (Ranting ahead.) Somewhere along the way modern shamanism internalized the idea that the shamanic path is done alone. Whether it's that you can read it in a book, take a correspondence class, some misplaced notion of suffering for your art, or that shamanism is...

The Weekly Rune

For the week of 4 March 2018

Redo, meaning, and might.

Tiwaz is the half-month stave through 14 March. Dagaz is the intuitive stave, and Thurisaz indicates the planet's message to us. Read right to left is Tiwaz, Dagaz, then Thurisaz.
Receive the ad-free, full weekly runecast by subscribing through Patreon.  There, find more detail on how the current runes impact human life force over the next week, and how to best manage the curves and twists therein. With a paid subscription, also receive TWR on Sunday instead of Monday, for as little as $1 a week, or for more engagement with me, such as regular Soul Readings, Sabbat Runecasts, and personal runecasts, choose one of the higher subscription levels.

The half-month rune is set by the runic calendar, and governs for a tad over two weeks (a fortnight). The intuitive stave (meaning, I draw it blind) indicates the life force most available to us, which brings the focus of the half-month rune into sharper focus for the present week. It suggests how we can handle these energies. The planetary stave (also a blind draw) indicates the state and needs of the planet, and where noted, of Nature, well beyond the earthly sphere.

If you're curious about how I do the cast every week, catch a couple of my Instagram videos, which explain the intention behind The Weekly Rune, and what makes it different from other ways of casting. Support The Weekly Rune on Patreon - S. Kelley Harrell, Soul Intent Arts, Fuquay-Varina, NC

And yes, you're right, I do have new runes! Thanks for noticing! About a year ago a friend mentioned "steel runes" to me, and it was all over. I knew it was a matter of time.  I felt them immediately. Last fall I commissioned them from Patrick Brown, and I got them the other day. They are amazing, and the next episode of my What in the Wyrd podcast will detail my courtship with them. The podcast is available across all popular podcast platforms, including Google Play and  iTunes. The latest episode focuses on Readying for Calling.

This week's cast is an awesome continuation of last week's opener with Tiwaz. This half-month is characterized by the sagas the likes of near misses, tragic clashes, and pulling it all out of the flames. It really is the stuff of drama, though it doesn't mean our lives are a flaming trauma. It can mean we have this seasonal reminder to rise. We can make a different choice--and should. We are capable of radical change that genuinely does put us on the best footing possible for what we want to accomplish right now, and the support to do it is abundant.

Dagaz revisits us this week in support of Tiwaz. Meaning "day," its emphasis is on confronting what was productive in our day and what wasn't. The challenge it brings it to re-arrange tomorrow based on that intel. As with Tiwaz, it demands that we take action. The opportunity is there, though we have to see it and move in accordance with it.

No matter how we look at it, the gears need to change, and the only thing in the way of that happening is ourselves. When we can allow that, we will be more in sync with what we want from our day-to-day. We will be more capable of creating it from a new place.

Steel Runes, S. Kelley Harrell, Soul Intent Arts Thurisaz brings the gusto to make that all happen. From the unconscious depths of our rumbling primal selves comes the force of Thurisaz. Often people encounter Thurisaz and feel intimidated by it--with good reason. Symbolized by the lightning strike, it's the result of Thor's swung hammer. It's the elements come together with a bang. The thing is, that can be under our control. It can be to our benefit. Because it's our unconscious, we have the potential to decode and understand what it's asking for. Thread this back into the current demands of Tiwaz, and we've got pretty good momentum to carry through on evoking change.

This week's runes are ultimately about going with hard flow. It's easy when things are all Laguz and naturally lilting along. With Tiwaz, nothing's lilting. It's not been lilting for a while. The question is, how tired of that are we? The support of Dagaz helps us make the change we need to, and Thurisaz brings the might to see it through to our benefit.
Half-month Considerations

How do you allow ease?
What's your unconscious saying this week?
How can you express it healthily?

In case you missed it--I was a panelist on the Runes Round Table last week, on Blog Talk Radio. It was a great discussion with several seasoned runesters, who work with different futharks, and brought different uses of the runes to the table. I learned a great deal from it, and I think you will enjoy it, too.

The Weekly Rune – Tiwaz

The Weekly Rune, cast for 25 February 2018 on Intentional Insights- by S. Kelley Harrell, Soul Intent Arts #theweeklyrune

For the week of 25 February 2018

Redo, ownership, and meaning.

Tiwaz is the half-month stave through 14 March. Perthro reversed is the intuitive stave, and Dagaz indicates the planet's message to us. Read right to left is Tiwaz, Perthro reversed, then Dagaz.

Best yet, it's short, little conversational bites designed to help us all bring our paths more deeply into the everyday. It's available across all popular podcast platforms, including Google Play and  iTunes. The latest episode focuses on Readying for Calling.

Last week was pretty sweet. Honestly, the last couple of weeks have been. We had a wonderful elemental set up for some solid personal advancement. This week we progress into the territory of Tiwaz, which marks entry into the third aett. Tiwaz, in particular, is a bracing dose of reality. A lot of people aren't comfortable with it in their readings, though I always feel relief when I see it. I call it the survivor rune, as its story encompasses being in the midst of heart-wrenching battle, and realizing that best-laid strategy isn't going to work. Not only will it not, the casualties thus far will be nothing compared to those amassed from continuing to force a wrong agenda. What's important to realize about Tiwaz is that Plan B is victorious. So if we can just get out of our own way to have the process of realizing the doom of Plan A, we're golden.

If.

Book a Rune Reading with Kelley Harrell Perthro reversed brings a clue-x-4 to help with that transaction. Upright, it points to all the qualities of wyrdweaving, including wyrd, orlog, personal baggage, ancestral baggage, and the forces of Nature that do what they will, and how all of that combines to create outcomes.

Reversed it sings a different tune. Reversed in this cast, its melody becomes very refined. Under the half-month of Tiwaz, Perthro reversed challenges us to own what we know. Stop pretending we don't know it. Stop avoiding taking action on relevant data. Take responsibility and instill accountability for whatever the fall out is. Perthro is nothing if not a rune of accountability. Sure there are natural forces beyond our control. Yes, even with healing through all the things, we can still be to the wind. The point of it--particularly reversed--is that we take ownership of whatever is our part to own. This isn't the time to worry over variables beyond our control. The ones that are, need attention, now.

Dagaz as the voice of Nature gives the commentary that where we find meaning makes this all have a point. Meaning "day," the focus of this rune is the ability to take stock in our tasks, engagements, and duties through the day. It's the micro harvest, compared to Jera's "year." In my words, it's "Heart Accounting," compared to "Hearth Accounting." Where with Jera we examine the harvest for its pluses and minuses, so with Dagaz we examine our day. Can we do that whole tabulation process for the year in one day? No. So what we end up with is determining what in our day had meaning.

This week, our job is to realize whatever dynamic needs to be let go, and do that as gracefully as possible. There's a point where ownership of our shit isn't just an overall good thing to do for ourselves, it's the ethical, supportive choice for the community in which we're situated--animistic and otherwise. Perhaps there's where Dagaz is most of service. If we can't find the deeper meaning for ourselves to make the life change we know we need to, perhaps we can find it to do for community.
Half-month Considerations

How comfortable are you with changing plans?
How do you recognize your heartsong?
What are you willing to do to live it?

In case you missed it--I was a panelist on the Runes Round Table last week, on Blog Talk Radio. It was a great discussion with several seasoned runesters, who work with different futharks, and brought different uses of the runes to the table.
