L.A. Book Soup reading on 10/11

Hey!

Just wanted to let anyone in the LA area know, I'll be reading from Everything Is Going To Be Great at Book Soup at 7pm, on October 11th!

I'm so excited and think it will be a great event. If you're around, please come out! There will be cookies and wine, and if they won't let us have wine then I'll bring a big pot of stew and pour wine in it, like Phyllis Nefler in "Troop Beverly Hills."

Book Soup is at 8818 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles California. You can check out their website with the event listing here:

I'm looking forward to seeing you! xoxo

Troop Beverly Hills

I don't usually post on everything I write, but I'm particularly attached to this piece, because it is about TROOP BEVERLY HILLS, a masterpiece which was criminally robbed of its rightful 1989 Best Picture Oscar by Driving Miss Daisy.

I'm serious. You should read this. And then you should attend a fashion show of this seasons khaki fashions modelled by Pia Zadora and Dr. Joyce Brothers.

New York Times Book Review on EIGTBG

"Shukert takes gleeful flight, abasing herself with a zeal reminiscent of Chelsea Handler...she nails the despair that assails so many innocents (or not-so-innocents) abroad."

L.A Times LOVES EIGTBG!

The L.A. Times reviewed Everything Is Going To Be Great!

Here's a smattering of what they had to say:

"Shukert's "Everything Is Going to Be Great" feels like a younger woman's version of Elizabeth Gilbert's bestseller — that is, if Gilbert were a Jewish, twentysomething, girl-does-everything-she-shouldn't survivalist...Shukert's humor has us clenching as though we're rollerblading the Alps without kneepads and helmets. We laugh out loud as if our best friend is sitting in a bar telling us wicked tales of her pursuits, then we tear up when she sits lonely in her hotel room eating mustard from a squeeze tube...yet with a turn of the page, she can bring on the tears...I'll wager she gets her own sitcom."

Oh, LA Times. From your mouth to God's ears.

EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE GREAT IS NOW ON-SALE!

Dear Beloved Friends, Relatives, Former Friends, Colleagues, Prison Pen Pals, That Guy Who Drunkenly Facebooked Me After a Party One Night and Has No Idea Who I Am:

OMG IT'S PUB DAY, YA'LL!! After more than two years of work and anxiety, my new book, Everything Is Going To Be Great: An Underfunded and Overexposed European Grand Tour, goes officially goes on sale today. I woke up with a strange feeling of anticipation, joy and dread. How about you?

I know what you're thinking: No 1) How can I help? And No 2) Where will the free booze be?

Well, here are your answers.

You can help (if you are so disposed!) by tweeting about EIGTBG's being on-sale (here's the Amazon link, BTW, pre-tinyed for maximum convenience: http://tiny.cc/7ifnk). You can add it or review it on GoodReads, or ordering it or reviewing it at Amazon. You can write about it on your blog, or for your magazine or newspaper.

You can visit your favorite bookseller and saying: "I would like a copy of Everything Is Going To Be Great by Rachel Shukert, my good man, and be quick about it!"

You can recommend it to your book club, invite me to read with you or at your reading series, have me as a guest on your radio broadcast or TV panel show. You can option it for film or television. You can tell all your friends and family about the book. You can recommend it to your prison or middle school librarian. You can hold it in your hand while you murder the cultural icon with whom you have been obsessed for years and whom you are convinced has to be destroyed in order for the voices to stop.

You can also help (how's this for a segue) by coming where the free booze and bad decision people will be!

Come to the official EIGTBG Launch Party tonight, 7/27!! 7pm at McNally Jackson, my favorite bookshop, at 52 Prince St will I will read and sign books and moderately discuss my book. And when that's done, around 8:15 or so, we'll head over to Sweet and Vicious at 5 Prince St, where the free drinking will commence.

Please come!! And thank you so much for your help and enthusiasm. I love you.

Yours as always on this incredibly terrifying day,
Rachel

To sum up:
