When Your Health Turns On You: #Hypothyroidism –– 1: Symptoms

It’s been a while. A long while. In the past two years no books have been launched, no books have been written; not even a short story. Life turned on me. To be precise, my health turned on me, and I’m writing this series of posts because if you don’t recognise the signs yours could turn on you. I don’t recommend it.

If you’ve not called by before, a pointer: I’m British and live in the UK. We

Happy New Year!

Sending good wishes for the coming year to all my readers, both of this blog and of my fiction and non-fiction. You are very much appreciated.

May the New Year bring comfort for those suffering ill health, joy for those who are lonely, and clear thinking for those who need it - which I guess embraces us all.

Let's spare a moment in our busy lives to stand and really look at our

All Things Father Christmas, including Santa and NORAD

Here I am, back again, with my  traditional Christmas article, because, as with all good
Traditions, it has the right amount of fact while not taking itself too
seriously.

Let it raise a smile as snippets are retold over a glass of something
warming and yet another mince pie.

Wishing all my readers, of this blog and of my books, a wonderful festive season, whatever your beliefs.

Go #Gothic

The East Riding of Yorkshire’s Festival of Words, just finished, covered a multitude of delightful literary sins, from Hitler’s British Isles with Duncan Barrett to The Age of Elegance: from Downton to the Mitfords with Jessica Fellowes, which culminated in that most English of preoccupations, indulging in tea and cakes. For me, though, the event which hit the spot was the Gothic Thrillers panel

Networking and Publicity events come in all shapes

Early Birds enjoying the pre-event refreshments

A big thank you to all those readers and would-be writers who yesterday joined a group of East Yorkshire novelists at the Beverley Treasure House for The Romantic Fiction Read Dating event. You were attentive, laughed in the right places, and asked plenty of questions. A dream audience.

It was also a reminder of why I should participate in

#Romance Fiction Read Dating Anyone?

A novelist giving talks to groups is one thing, being one of six novelists giving a fifteen minute background chat and reading, will be...  interesting.

But which sort of Romance will we be talking about?

As any reader of the genre knows, it comes in all shades, from baby-blush pink to red in tooth and claw. With laughs. With tears. Always with heart-thumping moments, though not

Art in Bridlington - Nick Coley

Now here's something not seen very often on this website: Art - blue in tooth and claw.

Nick Coley is a friend of long-standing who at one time wrote anarchic humorous Fantasy, which is how our paths first crossed. Like most creative people, he has never been creative in just one field, and he has always innovated. Painting on canvas and board soon gave way to glass and, more impressive

Pinterest for Authors?

Infographic pin on Writing Tips

I’ve recently initiated a Pinterest account:
https://www.pinterest.co.uk/LindaAcas...

I know, the site has been around long enough, but when a writer is supposed to be creating the next novel, just how many social media sites can she handle?

This was my first mistake. Pinterest is, or is akin to, a search engine. Like a lot of people, my go-to

#WritingTips Index Page

The sharp-eyed among my readers may have noticed a new page has appeared beneath the header of this blog - Writing & Editing Tips. I've been creating posts for many a year, and during that period have produced four series of how-to articles. This single-page index makes the individual posts easier to find and navigate.

The choice:

Writing Prompts - a choice of 16, each with an explanatory
